VC giant Insight Partners confirms January cyberattack

U.S.-based venture capital firm Insight Partners has confirmed that hackers breached its systems in January.When reached by TechCrunch, Insight Partners confirmed the cybersecurity incident in a statement published Tuesday. Calcalist first reported the breach earlier in the day.In its statement, Insight Partners said it detected that an unauthorized third party had accessed certain Insight information systems through a sophisticated social engineering attack on January 16. The company did not specify what kind of social engineering attack it experienced.As soon as this incident was detected, we moved quickly to contain, remediate, and start an investigation within a matter of hours, the statement said.The company, which has more than $90 billion in assets under its management and invested in various cybersecurity companies including Armis and Wiz, says it has notified stakeholders about the breach.Insight Partners hasnt confirmed the nature of the security incident and hasnt said whether any data was stolen from its systems. However, the company says its encouraging its partners to employ tightened security protocols irrespective of having shared data compromised, suggesting data may have been accessed.When asked by TechCrunch, Insight Partners spokesperson Natalie Sawyer declined to answer TechCrunchs questions, including whether the incident caused any disruptions to its business.Insight said in its published statement that it expects no additional disruption to its operations.
