The end of the Technicolor era is nigh. After a failure to make any deals with investors over the weekend, Technicolor Group CEO Caroline Parot sent a memo to employees on Monday, explaining, due to inability to find new investors for the full Group, despite extensive efforts, [Paris-headquartered] Technicolor Group has filed for Court recovery procedure before the French Court of Justice to give a chance to enable to find solutions.The memo continued, In each country, the appropriate framework for orderly protection and way forward is currently being put in place to allow, when possible, to remain in business continuity.Despite Parots sentiments of possible recovery, Technicolor, which owns MPC, The Mill, Mikros Animation, and Technicolor Games, has begun to shut down U.S. operations following the WARN notice sent last Friday.On a positive note, the creative leadership and most of the creative staff at The Mill have joined forces with Dream Machine FX for a new venture, Arc Creative. The burgeoning team includes The Mill U.S.s executive creative directors Robert Sethi and Gavin Wellsman; managing directors Angela Lupo and Anastasia von Rahl; creative directors Ilya Abulkhavov, James Allen, Jimmy Bullard, David Lawson, John Leonti, Tom Mccullough and Thiago Porto; VFX supervisors Antoine Douadi, Anthony Jones, Eva Kuehlmann, Yarin Manes, Nhat Tran, Graeme Turnbull; and senior colorist Mikey Pehanich.This past Friday, we were collectively informed that after 35 years of groundbreaking artistry, The Mill would be closing its doors this Monday [Feb. 24] a casualty of the many years of Technicolors well-publicized financial struggles, the former The Mill U.S. artists explained in a joint statement. It was a moment that stopped us in our tracks. It goes without saying, the past few days have been filled with emotions: shock, anger, sorrow, concern, and ultimately, resolve. While The Mill as we know it has shut its doors, its spirit, its passion, and its legacy live on through its amazing and talented people.
