The next version of ChatGPT is here, with the promise to be more humanistic in tone, interactions and general knowledge.OpenAI announced on Thursday a preview of GPT-4.5, what OpenAI is calling its largest and best model for chat yet. The company said to expect more warm, naturally flowing conversations, better emotional intelligence and more advanced capabilities, such as the ability to recognize patterns, draw connections and think more creatively. The company detailed in a press release that the model can also understand more nuance and context, is more attuned to collaboration and is generally more knowledgeable, effectively reducing the likeliness to hallucinate. The news comes as tech companies are embracing a broader goal of developing AI that can match or surpass human capabilities. While GPT-4.5 is a step forward, it's perhaps more incremental than the highly anticipated, more advanced GPT 5 model reportedly not too far behind. This new version also comes on the heels of China's DeepSeekshaking up the generative AI field with its low-cost model and Google releasing version 2.0 of itsGemini AI.OpenAI continues to expand its various product offerings. Earlier this week, it opened up its Deep Research tool to all paying ChatGPT users and rolled out a free version of Advanced Voice Mode, a feature that enables real-time voice interactions with ChatGPT.The company said robust pre-training helps models like GPT-4.5 better absorb general knowledge, understand contextual relationships and learn high-level reasoning patterns."As models like GPT4.5 become smarter and more knowledgeable through pre-training, they will serve as an even stronger foundation for future reasoning and tool-using agents," the company said in a statement. It will continue to train the model during the research preview period, which will launch for paying ChatGPT Pro users and developers. The length of the preview phase will depend on feedback, the company said.
