MVRDV has unveiled Mega Mat, a temporary installation at Bangkok Design Week that transforms a public space into an educational experience on plastic waste and recycling in Thailand. Located at Lan Khon Mueang Town Square, the installation seeks to combine urban design with environmental storytelling, using over 500 recycled plastic mats to create a 9,200-square-foot infographic.Image credit: DOF SkyGroundImage credit: DOF SkyGroundThe Mega Mat installation uses 532 modular mats, each measuring 6 by 3 feet, inspired by the traditional Thai Sua household mat. The bright colors of the mats form a gradient that visually represents Thailands plastic waste management: red indicates unsanitary landfills, orange covers sanitary landfills with pollution barriers, yellow depicts uncollected waste, and green highlights the percentage of plastic recycled. The color scheme also indicates a connection to the vibrant roofs of the nearby Wat Suthat Thepwararam temple.Image credit: DOF SkyGrou...
