Severance season 2 is currently blowing everyones minds after a three year break, as expected, but it almost did something even weirder than what weve seen so far: cast Barack Obama.Ben Stiller has revealed in a Jimmy Kimmel interview that he tried to get Obama into the show for a specific role. And no, it was not a goat herder. Rather, it was the voice of the Lumon building in the video shown to the group:"I didn't ask him in person, I knew someone who knew his lawyer and his lawyer said I can relay the request if you write an email," Stiller recalled. "So I wrote an email to him saying like, 'Hey we have this show,' whatever. And like two days later, I get an email back from President Barack Obama."The reply email said he didnt have time in his schedule to do it, but this is not as random as it sounds, given that Obama had previously said he was a fan of Severance, and affirmed to Stiller that while he was looking forward to season 2, he just couldnt do it. Stiller commented on that choice:"He's just like the most warm, inviting voice," Stiller said. "I don't know if when you see the building and you hear his voice, you necessarily think immediately that it's Keanu, but then I think you have this just innate feeling."I am going to go out on a limb here and say that hearing Barack Obama narrate a Lumon video may have gone too far in terms of cameos, even if it was just a voice, and Im seeing a lot of fans say the same after hearing this. My favorite comment on all this was from reddit, where someone imagined Obama saying Uhhh, let me be Kier.Obama and Reeves were not the only choices, as the goal was to make the voice warm and friendly, which is the point of the video meant to placate the MDR team by informing them their uprising had changed the whole of severance policies and perception in the outside world (it did not).
