Financing realities of the costly Tropicana Field roof repair have sunk a $1.3 billion plan for a new MLB stadium and anchor of a larger mixed-use district in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida. News of the two-year-old Hines-led projects cancelation came six months after the cost of repairing the Rays existing Hurricane Milton-damaged home was divulged to be north of $55 million. It was part of a $6.5 billion investment planned for the city. Other outlets have reported the team is now pitching a "large-scale" renovation package to keep them in the Tampa area until at least 2038.In other stadium news, the BIG and HNTB-designed new A's ballpark in Las Vegas expects to begin construction in the fall after releasing updated interior renderings for the project recently.
