WXY has been working with the New York City Department of Transportation on a report studying ahuge new urban reclamation design for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE). Their plan "explores strategies to reclaim underutilized land, prioritize pedestrians and cyclists, and integrate green infrastructure under, over, and around" a nearly 11-mile, two-component (North and South) corridor.It follows a separatepre-pandemic proposal from BIG. This is part of the community engagement process that has considered multiple proposals for greening trenches, viaducts, and other parts of the BQE since the initiative began approximately two years ago with the support of Mayor Eric Adams.
