Samus has gravity powers in Beyond (Nintendo)Samus Arans next 3D outing will also launch on the Switch 2, with other games set to receive enhancements on the system.Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has had a turbulent development cycle since it was first announced in 2017, but eight years later, and following a complete reboot by developer Retro Studios, the sequel is finally set to launch in 2025.Following a new trailer at last weeks Direct, Nintendo confirmed the upcoming sequel will be a cross-gen title for the Switch 2 in a presentation today (April 2). The Switch 2 edition will offer mouse controls using the Joy-Cons and improved graphics modes.The Switch 2 versions quality mode will support 4K and 60fps with HDR in docked mode, and 1080p and 60fps with HDR in handheld mode. In performance mode, it will support 1080p and 120fps while docked and 720p and 120fps in handheld mode.No specific release date was announced for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond but it is slated for 2025, so it will probably launch sometime after the Switch 2 launch on June 5.The upcoming Pokmon Legends: Z-A, which is set to launch late 2025, will also be a cross-gen title on Switch 2, with similar upgrades to frame rate and resolution on the new system. A select number of already-released Switch games will also receive enhanced upgrades via a Switch 2 Edition, which will be available to purchase physically or digitally.Those who have already purchased the original Switch versions, however, can purchase an upgrade pack to receive extra visual benefits, or in the case of Super Mario Party Jamboree, extra gameplay functionality in the form of camera support and new mini-games. More TrendingA price for these upgrades is yet to be announced, but Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will get access to upgrades for The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom on Switch 2 for free.You can check out all the confirmed Switch 2 Edition games below, with more set to be announced in the future. Following the presentation, Nintendo confirmed a number of other Switch games will receive free updates to improve playability, which are also listed. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a sequel to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which was released on the Wii in 2007. The Prime Metroid games began with 2002s Metroid Prime on the Nintendo GameCube, which introduced 3D graphics and a first person perspective to the series.
