Coming hot off the heels of the surprise success that was Helldivers 2, Sony President Hiroki Totoki stated in February 2024 that while "major projects" were in the works, Sony wouldn't be releasing any new installments of pre-established first-party franchises until its next fiscal year, which wouldn't begin until March 2025. Though first-party titles like Ghost of Yotei were announced last year, Sony stayed true to its word.
