iOS 18.4 breaks CarPlay connectivity for some iPhone users

Apple released iOS 18.4 for iPhone users on with Priority Notifications, new emoji, several changes to CarPlay, and more. According to a growing number of users, however, the iOS 18.4 update has rendered CarPlay unusable in their cars.In a thread on Reddit and elsewhere, iPhone users say they are experiencing a wide range of bugs with CarPlay since updating to iOS 18.4 this week. Multiple users say Now Playing information from CarPlay no longer shows up on their cars gear cluster display.Perhaps more importantly, however, some users are experiencing major connectivity problems with CarPlay in iOS 18.4. One user says their iPhone is connecting and disconnecting over and over again when using wireless CarPlay. Another user also says that iOS 18.4 broke their wireless CarPlay and made the connection unstable. One Honda driver says it takes plugging and unplugging 5+ times or restarting the car to get CarPlay to connect since updating to iOS 18.4.Another user:I got this same problem in my 2025 Mazda CX-30 this morning too after updating to the latest iOS, as did my partner, he only got it to work after disconnecting and reconnecting the device to the vehicle FIVE times! Ive only tried it 3 and it still hasnt reconnected properly, so Ive just gone back to the old usb connection until Apple has a patch or somethingThe issues appear to span multiple different automakers, including Honda, Mazda, Audi, and Ford. Users say theyve tried a variety of different things to fix the problems, including re-pairing their phones to their cars, rebooting their phones and their cars, and more.You can delete your car from CarPlay by following these steps:Open the Settings app on your iPhone.Tap GeneralTap CarPlaySwipe left on your cars name and deleteYoull then have to go through the process of re-pairing your iPhone with your car to enable CarPlay again.One user on Reddit says that Volkswagen customer service has acknowledged the iOS 18.4 problems, but said that its up to Apple to fix the issues. Apple has not publicly acknowledged the problems. iOS 18.5 is currently in beta testing with developers and is expected to be released next month.
