Lina Ghotmeh's stunning wooden Bahrain Pavilion debuts at Expo 2025
Lina Ghotmeh is participating in this year’s Expo 2025 Osaka as the architect of the Bahrain National Pavilion, which was first previewed here last June.
New photos of the completed structure, an imitation of a traditional dhow ship’s form, grant an understanding of the latent in her process that relies on wood joinery and produces a low-waste construction. 3,000 individual pieces were used in its design. It has been staged in the 'Empowering Lives' zone and does so by emphasizing the connectivity of global trade throughout its immersive sensory experience.
Photo: Iwaan BaanThis is an over 10,700-square-foot structure that stands as a testament to "sustainable innovation," says Ghotmeh. The pavilion will host artist commissions, a café, and other activities in response to the fair’s umbrella theme, 'Designing Future Society for Our Lives.' Expo 2025 Osaka closes on October 13th, 2025.
