Warner Bros has published its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2025, reporting a 48% decrease in games revenue during its first quarter.
The firm does not provide detailed figures for its games revenue (which is part of its Studios segment). Though it attributed the decline to last year's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failing to meet expectations.
It also attributed the fall in revenue to there not being any new releases during the quarter.
Warner Bros did note that Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 continue to accumulate revenue, and highlighted the success of A Minecraft Movie which has grossed almost $900 million in global box office sales. It surpassed $550 million after ten days in theatres.
As for the Studios segment as a whole, total revenues were down 16% to $2.3 billion compared to the same period last year.
Revenue for Warner Bros overall during Q1 2025 totaled $9 billion, a 9% decrease year-on-year.
Following its FY2024 results posted this February, Warner Bros addressed its restructuring program which saw the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros San Diego.
The company described 2024 as a "disappointing year" for its games segment, and said its restructuring plan was put in place to "refocus [its] resources and capital on proven IP and games from world class studios."
It added: "We are focusing our games business around four tentpole franchises that have each generated over $1 billion in consumer sales in the past years: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC – particularly top tier characters like Batman."
