Selldorf Architects are to lead a renovation of the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris. Working in collaboration with Paris-based Studio La Boétie, Selldorf will perform upgrades to the historic mansion house where Yves Saint Laurent created iconic fashion pieces from 1974 to 2002. “The architectural project will double the public exhibition space, open unprecedented access to iconic areas such as Pierre Bergé’s office and enhance the visitor experience for their growing audience,” Selldorf said, announcing their commission. “A new Documentation and Research Center will be created to preserve and promote the archives and documents related to the lives and work of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.” The commission comes weeks after the Selldorf-led overhaul of the National Gallery in London opened to the public.
