Chevening Scholarship winnersThe British High Commission in Ottawa has announced the three Canadian recipients of the Chevening Scholarship for 2025, which include Brendan Callan, an architectural designer and bio-researcher from Toronto, Ontario.Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate the commitment and skills necessary to drive positive change in their respective fields. Since its establishment in 1983, the Chevening program has empowered over 60,000 professionals to develop their expertise in the UK, before returning home with newfound knowledge that serves to benefit their communities. The programs alumni include 21 current or former heads of state or government officials.The UK Governments global scholarships cover all necessary costs for scholars to pursue eligible masters degrees at a UK university of their choice, while also granting access to exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences, along with an extensive alumni network of global leaders.Canadian winner Brendan Callan is passionate about developing new architectural methods that use natural materials to bring nature and buildings closer together. He graduated from OCAD University with a degree in Environmental Design, where his work received the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Award for innovative approaches to sustainability. He has participated in international workshops and advised on projects using innovative natural materials. Callan is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture in Architectural Design at University College London.Canadas 2025 Chevening cohort also includes Cody Mackoway, an Alberta-based policy analyst and advocate for youth and Ukrainian communities, and Zeus Eden, a sustainability and policy strategist currently serving as press secretary to the Mayor of Toronto.Our 2025 Chevening scholars are shining examples of the passion Canadians bring to the table in their pursuit of solving the most pressing of challenges.
