Dragon Quest is a legendary franchise that established a lot of modern JRPG tropes, from questing to leveling up. However, it took three games before it allowed players to build a party of their own, along with letting them switch classes, called Vocations, before battle. Now, the party makeup is one of the best things about JRPGs and RPGs.
