HOK begins construction of all-electric Etihad Park soccer stadium in Queens
The first purpose-built home of the New York City FC MLS franchise has broken ground in Willets Point, Queens. The $3 billion project is being led by HOK, which was one of the top 300 performing firms globally last year thanks to its lucrative sports portfolio. It yields a 25,000-seat stadium (also MLSs first all-electric design) with a 35,000-square-foot public space that can be operated on non-match days. The plan also includes a 2,500-unit affordable housing component, a 250-room hotel, and 650-seat public school. HOK has said previously they expect the stadium's construction to be completed in time for the 2027 season.
