To create a complete map I imagine you have to move around and observe the occluded areas in the first scan, from the landing spot if we talk Mars rover. This gets me to thinking. You can get scientifical data by looking at the pictures but how much can they learn from those pictures, that is rather incomplete. A photo session on Mars, that appears to be the summary of it?
