Well, this partial mars map example reminds me on somthing - i think they call it fog of war in RTS games?Not sure, but it basically means a visibility map per faction. Could be just two bits in your cell data, at minimum. And you can use it to block the path finding for example, or LOS tests, etc.And it's important for the player too, who sees only parts of map he has already explored / occupied.Ideally he associates a growing visibility with increasing power, or tension,
