A code adoption tracking resource produced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that shows the status of different states compliance with hazard-resistant zoning measures is especially relevant given the recent spate of catastrophic weather eventsaffecting Los Angeles and other American cities.The BCAT portal includes data through the end of Q4 2024. Overall, just one-third (33%) of all "natural hazard-prone jurisdictions"have successfully adopted the most current hazard-resistant building codes.
