Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, which is all the more impressive given the mixed reception of this franchise's games in recent times. Unlike Mario, the mascot Sega was trying to compete with, Sonic's 3D transition has been far from perfect, with a lot of these games continuing to struggle to this day.
