Following government regulatory changes, Apple has officially confirmed it will launch the new hearing aid features in the UK, for AirPods Pro 2 customers. In a statement to The Telegraph, Apple said it will bring the hearing aid features to UK AirPods Pro users in the coming weeks, following changes to government policy. The UK government policy statement on Thursday clarified that over-the-counter hearing aids are allowed. The policy follows the general framework set out by the US in 2022, that inspired Apple to develop the hearing aid functionality for AirPods in the first instance. The features debuted in the US as a free software update in late 2024. The Hearing Health update includes the ability for users to take a home hearing test, that can check whether users would benefit from hearing aid assistance. The AirPods Pro 2 can then be used to mitigate mild to moderate hearing loss, based on the results of the hearing test. Users can also upload an audiogram taken by a hearing health professional. Additionally, Loud Sound Reduction can automatically reduce the impact of noisy environments, as long as the AirPods earbuds are in your ears.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed.
