Construction spending to slow dramatically through 2026, says AIA

Spending on nonresidential buildings will see gains of only 2.2% in 2025 and 2.6% in 2026, according to the AIAs latest Consensus Construction Forecast. Despite increasing by 20% in 2023 and 6% in 2024, the AIA expects spending on commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities to slow dramatically in the coming two years.Across key sectors, the AIA expects commercial spending to grow 1.7% this year, with office spending increasing 3.6% and institutional spending increasing 6%. Of all typologies, data centers will see the largest spending increase at 21.9% while warehouses will see the largest decrease with a 2% decline.Extract from the AIA's latest Consensus Construction Forecast.
