Way back in this old post I mentioned discovering Crocotile and Sprytile. Those are tools (one standalone, and one an addon for Blender) that are used to create 3D objects out of pixel art tiles. In that post I mentioned wanting to experiment with those tools; that was 4 years ago and I never did, oops! Well I finally got around to it, and heres my initial result:
