Games Inbox: What Switch 2 games will be in the April Nintendo Direct?
metro.co.uk
Could Resident Evil be returning to a Nintendo format? (Capcom)The Monday letters page is already worried about cheaters in GTA 6 Online, as one reader resists celebrating the death of MultiVersus. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.ukThree guessesAs much as Im looking forward to the Nintendo Direct in April, Im almost more excited to see what third party games will be revealed there. Nintendo is totally going to want to prove the Switch 2 has changed in that respect but I cant imagine theyre going to be happy just showing off old PlayStation 4 games or even older current gen games like Elden Ring.Theres going to be new stuff from everyone, I reckon, and those new MySims games EA accidently leaked are just going to be the start of it. The reader guessing that Konami was waiting till now to reveal a new Castlevania sounds totally believable to me. And if its not that itll be something like it.Maybe Resident Evil 9 (remember, Resident Evil 4 was originally a GameCube exclusive), maybe Final Fantasy 17, maybe something new from Microsoft (theyve already hinted at it). More people are going to be watching that Nintendo Direct than almost any other gaming even this year, more than any State of Play and definitely more than an Xbox Direct.Im not saying all my suggestions will come true, theyre only guesses, but I dont think its just going to be Nintendo games. Although just for the record I predict Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 4, Donkey Kong/Super Mario 3D, a Zelda remaster, and some kind of WarioWare/1-2-Switch game.OnibeeTechnical difficultiesThe new days Inbox and readers features are taking a while to make it up to the top of the page and being buried down beneath a lot of scrolling to find for a big portion of the day and are hard to find, easy to miss. They do get there eventually but the two Saturday weekend feature as of 1pm requires this much scrolling to find on mobile:12 articles under the editors picks header, one ad, one newsletter sign up box, then the trending now chunk, metro shorts chunk, game reviews chunk, games news chunk, games inbox chunk then I get to the more stories chunk which has this weekends Readers Features as the first two stories.SimundoGC: Yes, theres definitely something going wrong at the moment. Our thanks to all the readers that have pointed it out. It seems to be happening randomly and only at certain times of the day, but well try and get it fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime, the articles are still all there, theyre just not necessarily showing up on the main channel page.Accidental tendsetterTheres no way that BioWare is going to survive unless Mass Effect 4 is a massive (pun intended) hit and I only give them a 50/50 chance of staying around long enough to actually finish it. Like other readers, I blame EA for the terrible marketing for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Although there wasnt much of it anyway, so I dont think they ever had any faith in it.With just 100 people left at BioWare I dont know how good Mass Effect 4 can even be. Although, I doubt the originals were done with much more so maybe this could be a blessing in disguise, and theyll have to concentrate on the important stuff and not get carried away with bloat or over-the-top graphics.Seems a strange thing to be happy about but maybe that could ensure it comes out in a reasonable amount of time too. We all know about the problems of games taking too long to make and being too expensive so maybe EA could inadvertently start a trend where they limit the size of teams and get things back to where they were a generation or two ago.PrestonEmail your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.ukGet rich quickI dont take any pleasure from reading about people losing their jobs but I am so glad that the live service bandwagon finally seems to have come off its wheels. I bet MultiVersus couldve been a really successful game if theyd just sold it properly but they just couldnt resist trying to turn it into an infinite money generator.I played it and it was pretty good, definitely the best not-Smash Bros. game Ive played but it felt so incomplete and shady, with all the money they wanted you to pay for extra characters. If theyd just sold it upfront like Smash Bros. Ultimate Im sure it wouldve been a big hit.Theres no point cheering the end of live service games though, as Im sure therell be another get rich quick scam that publishers will fall for soon after, there always is. Itll probably be AI this time and then when everyone realises thats a dead end itll be something. Anything to avoid just paying talented developers to make good games.JoshoCrying out for a sequelReally looking forward to seeing the new Onimusha this week. Its taken a long time for Capcom to make good on their promise of bringing back old franchises and hopefully this is just the first of many. I get why they did it instead of Dino Crisis, given the gameplay is quite different from Resident Evil, but I hope they both get their time in the sun again.Im kind of shocked we havent heard anything about a new Devil May Cry for so long though. Technically that isnt even an old franchise, but it is odd the last one seemed to do quite well but that was six years ago now. I wonder if Capcom has made a deal with Hideki Kamiya, for him to make the next one? Seems a lot of work to do that and kami 2 at the same time, but something strange is going on and Im not sure what.BensonCheats always prosperIm concerned over paying for GTA 6 Online. It was great that it was free with GTA 5 and it soon became one of my top five PlayStation 3 games, but that mode soon became filled, overrun, and then absolutely riddled with invincible/invisible cheaters or those that could make every player in the lobby explode spontaneously. It was bad enough when the Hydra fighter jet was added to the game, for players to legitimately buy and use (against other players), but you could hide from these troll players by being in a building, staying in a train tunnel or going underground in the subway/sewer system where they couldnt kill you.But despite grief reporting those aforementioned cheaters, RockStar did nothing about it but were quick to act once a money-giving player/hacker gave you millions more than you could ever spend (the irony of getting money through dubious means was clearly lost on them). These cheaters were part of the reason I would later sell my PS3 Slim.If Rockstar want me and countless others to pay 70 or whatever it is for the online aspect, Im going to expect no, demand a swathe of admin-bods be watching these online sessions and act on the first hint of a player cheating.LeighDappaPhysical differencesFor the reader that was asking about the size of Nintendo Switch 2 game boxes, Ive just read a rumour that theyre going to be 33% bigger. Not confirmed or anything, so could easily be wrong. They seem to be the same basic shape though, i.e. tall and thin.Even if that particular rumour is not true, I still would assume that they are going to be different because Nintendo will want to make it clear that Switch 2 is different and so are its games. Otherwise theyre going to have people complaining they bought the games and they dont work on their Switch 1 console.LemptonAliens and zombiesId definitely say I enjoyed Resident Evil Zero and there was some interesting design choices, like the leaving of equipment at any location for your other character to pick up. It obviously didnt take off but was part of an interesting overall package and gave Resi Evil Zero its uniqueness.I also enjoyed the William Birkin and Albert Wesker laboratory partnership, adding to the Umbrella backstory. Also, the little links to Resident Evil 5s African plot was interesting, about the origins of the virus ingredients known at the time. The overall experience I took from Resi Zero was a decent prequel, introducing some new characters and plot lines, and of course the swapping between Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. The creepy leech creatures and their strange, unnerving stride movement always creeped me out! Though the mad monkey and frog mutants probably not.Id personally say that there was only one bad Resident Evil and that was 6. But that was why we then got Resi 7 and 8. Not forgetting the well-received remakes of Resi 3 and especially Resi 2, as well, and of course all this leads to a highly interesting next game in the series.Speaking of great horror titles, I saw Alien Romulus the other day and despite so many homages from the original films they seemed to pay off. It was like watching teenagers taking the roles of adults but it still seemed to work and it was not too cheesy. In fact, everything in the movie worked and just felt like it was nostalgic in the correct ways, without badly attempting to appeal to the core Alien fanbase.Alien and Resident Evil have definitely been very versatile, and follow a hit and miss routine, but luckily they mostly have been okay. The Prometheus and Covenant films were enjoyable enough and I wasnt sure where it was going after Covenant, but Romulus was very decent. Like Resident Evil, I will be highly interested in what experience were going to get next from two of my all-time favourite entertainment franchises.AlucardInbox also-ransI had no idea Sony had even ported Spider-Man 2 to the PC. Then I read the performance is terrible. What even is the point? Why not just wait till it works? I just dont get it.ArthurIsnt it crazy how absolutely no one talks about the PS5 Pro anymore? I know it was only meant to be for hardcore fans but after the price shock and it came out I dont think Ive ever heard it mentioned again. Just seems such a waste of resources (naturally, I never bought one).YellowMore TrendingEmail your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.ukThe small printNew Inbox updates appear every weekday morning, with special Hot Topic Inboxes at the weekend.
