Ubisoft's Far Cry series has some of the most celebrated games in the first-person shooter genre. The original Far Cry,which was developed by German studio Crytek, was revolutionary back in the day, due to its impressive visuals and open-ended gameplay. Its follow-up, Far Cry 2, was similarly praised for its realistic fire simulation, intelligent AI, and immersive survival mechanics. These two games, however, were not nearly as influential as Far Cry 3. The third numbered entry in the Far Cry series laid the framework for the modern open-world video game and basically invented what would later be known as the Ubisoft gameplay formula.
