MagSafe in the car is really the perfect use case for the technology Apple rolled out with the iPhone 12. You can skip connecting cables whenever you get in and out of the car. Snap, drive, rinse, and repeat. With this Qi2-certified MagSafe car charger, youll always arrive with a full battery and stay ahead of the GPS battery drain.MagSafe Monday:Every Monday, Bradley Chambers looks at the latest and greatest in the MagSafe and wireless charging industry to help you get the most out of your Apple devices that support wireless charging. What I look for in a MagSafe car chargerWhen youre looking for a MagSafe car charger, these features are the ones I am looking for.Qi2 Compatibility: This is pretty much table stakes for me now. It was a bonus/nice to have for a while, but its been long enough. One thing to keep in mind is that if your car only supports 5 watts on your built-in USB ports, you wont see 15-watt charging. In that case, youll want to either use a traditional wall charger with your cars AC plug or some sort of DC charger. Again, your output will depend on what your car offers.Strong Magnets: No MagSafe experience is worse than taking a sharp turn and sending your iPhone flying off. While theres no universal standard on strength, you know it when you feel it.Cooling System: While not a standard feature, an integrated cooling system is something I generally look for because I live in a climate where it can be pretty hot and humid during the summer months. MagSafe puts off more heat than traditional charging, so I want a design that can keep it cool while charging.Simple design tweak that makes the differenceThis is somewhat hard to explain, but my wifes car has air vents that are a bit flimsy compared to mine. This means that a lot of vent-based MagSafe cars are challenging to stay in when you add the weight of the iPhone. This model has a stabilization arm on the bottom that keeps it in place. This will be a must-have depending on your car and the air vents. Even if you dont buy this model, its something to remember.Unboxing and installationInstalling the AMEGAT MagSafe car charger takes about a minute, but it will take you longer to walk to your car than to install it.Unbox itPut the mount into the unit and tighten itMount it into your car vent.Plug up to powerI personally prefer air vent models because they are easily removed and dont require attaching anything permanently to your dashboard. I really like to avoid putting adhesive on my dashboard. My nightmare is pulling it off and seeing a permanent mark from any adhesive.Wrap upOverall, the AMEGAT MagSafe car charger is a solid pickup at a great price. It really checks all my boxes: air vent install, cooling system, Qi2, and strong magnets. I love MagSafe in the car, and this is a great model if youre ready to ditch wired car charging. You can buy it from Amazon.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed.
