However, Google plans to strengthen these safeguards by blocking access to all functionality on stolen devices. Google hosted The Android Show: I/O Edition this week, offering a preview of Android 16 and Wear OS 6. While Gemini AI stole the spotlight, the company also showcased an updated Factory Reset Protection feature aimed at making stolen Android devices virtually unusable. Updates to the OS will lock down any phone when it detects an unauthorized reset or attempts to bypass existing safeguards, rendering it unusable to thieves. Owners can restore recovered devices through authentication checks. Google did not share technical details about the new feature. However, a screenshot suggests the updated tool will disable a device if it detects an attempt to force a factory reset through suspicious methods. The image shows a message explaining that the device was locked after a factory reset because it failed authentication during setup. It adds that entering the device's last-used passcode or linked Google Account credentials will restore functionality. Google confirmed that the updated Factory Reset Protection will roll out later this year, likely alongside Android 16. It doesn't appear to be included in the current Android 16 Beta 4.1, released earlier this month unless developers have it hidden. However, it could arrive with the final Quarterly Platform Release. Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone will adopt design changes that have never been seen in the industry so far, and it will celebrate two decades of the device. The radical design of the 20th anniversary iPhone will be completely bezel-less and without a visible frame, something that users have been demanding and, to be fair, craving for years now. Back in the day, we used to see unreal concepts of an all-screen design, and it appears that the company is finally molding our dreams into reality. The 20th anniversary iPhone will feature a completely bezel-less display with no visible frame on the sides A new report from ETNews claims that Apple plans to use "four-edge bending" display technology for the 2027 iPhone models. This means that the iPhone's display will not only bend from the sides but also from the top and bottom, making it a completely bezel-less iPhone without any frame bolstering it. We have previously seen the screens melting onto the side of the device on various Android flagships, but Apple's rendition could be a lot different and more complex. The true edge-to-edge display will show content flowing on all sides of the device, portraying a completely seamless experience. We have recently covered that Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone will make use of "mostly glass," presenting a curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display. This means that the company aims to subtract the Dynamic Island on the front and place all sensors and cameras under the display. The report is also in line with The Information's details, which claimed that at least one iPhone model in 2027 will feature a truly edge-to-edge display. Bloomberg also highlighted in a prior report that the iPhone would be a 'Pro' model instead of the standard or the 'Air.' The change will mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and a radical design leap forward from the iPhone X, which launched in 2017. The iPhone X was a major step in the right direction as well, and Apple has kept more or less the same design language until the iPhone 16 Pro, with the Dynamic Island replacing the notch being the only difference. The company will achieve the new feat with a new OLED display driver IC (DDIC) based on 16nm FinFET process technology. Currently, the traditional driver uses a 28nm planar process. It will also allow the device to save power while delivering the same or better output. The new 16nm process is also a vital addition in terms of efficiency, as devices are getting thinner with each update, especially after the company announced the iPhone 17 Air. With a few other efficient power-saving mechanisms, future iPhone models could deliver the same all-day battery as the current models, if not better. The report mentions that Samsung and LG will be Apple's suppliers of choice for the technology. After years in development, beta tests, and delays, Square Enix has finally canceled the next Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts Missing Link. The development team behind Missing Link announced the game’s cancellation on the official Kingdom Hearts website.“Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game in the hope that it would be enjoyed by lots of players, we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development,” the team said in a statement.On a slightly more positive note, Square Enix said it is “hard at work” on Kingdom Hearts 4, which will continue Sora, Donald, and Goofy’s adventures in a new story arc.Here’s the developer’s full statement on Kingdom Hearts Missing Link’s cancellation:We have made the decision to cancel the development of KINGDOM HEARTS Missing-Link.We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the start of service.Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game in the hope that it would be enjoyed by lots of players, we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development.We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to everyone who gave us their support and assistance with the multiple closed beta tests. Missing Link was in development for Android and iOS devices, and was subject to multiple closed beta test since 2022. Square Enix last updated Kingdom Hearts fans’ on Missing Link’s fate in November 2024, when the publisher announced it has “made the difficult decision to delay the release” — which was originally intended for 2025.It’s unclear what, exactly, Square Enix couldn’t pull off with Missing Link, but the prospect of creating a compelling, sustainable, and profitable live-service mobile game in a crowded and entrenched market is daunting. Square Enix has also signaled it will “pursue a shift from quantity to quality” philosophy and “a regular launch cadence, focusing its development efforts and investments on titles with substantial potential to be loved by customers for years.” Apparently, Missing Link did not meet that bar.Square Enix hasn’t said much about how Missing Link tied into the overall Kingdom Hearts saga. But Square Enix has turned previous stories told through browser and mobile games into animated shorts and movies.
