• Atomfall: Wicked Isle Gameplay Overview Details New Region, Enemies, and Mysteries

Rebellion Developments revealed Atomfall’s upcoming story expansion in Wicked Isle, and fans won’t have to wait long to go hands-on. In a new gameplay overview, the developer breaks down what to expect from the new location and the threats that await.
Accessed from a boat in Windham Village, Midsummer Isle is isolated from the rest of the quarantine zone. However, it expands on the lore with some leads taking you back to the zone and opening alternate endings. You’ll wind up in an abandoned fishing village but venture into dense forests and an old abbey’s ruins.
Lake Bandits and Druids are the more common threats, but you’ll also have to beware of the new aquatic Ferals. Fortunately, there are some new weapons to help out. The Blunderbuss shotgun ignites enemies and can discharge both shells at a time, while the corrupted dagger deals more damage to infected enemies. You can even apply poison to arrows.
There are also four new skills, including decomposition to discretely dispose of bodies after a silent takedown. Atomfall: Wicked Isle launches on June 3rd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Check out our review of the base game here.

British post-apocalyptic action game Atomfall will receive its first story expansion next week, adding an entirely new island to explore.
Titled Wicked Isle, the expansion draws on the folk horror elements of the base game with its Midsummer Island setting. It adds new characters, skills, weapons, and even new endings.
The expansion will be released on 3rd June. Below is a fresh gameplay trailer with further details.

Official Atomfall: Wicked Isle Gameplay Overview TrailerWatch on YouTube
"Midsummer is located close to the Windscale Atom Plant and as a result the levels of infection in both the people and environment are higher than on the mainland," said Ben Fisher, head of design at developer Rebellion.
"You are going to meet new enemy factions including pirate bandits and infected druids. To help you survive there are new weapons to be found on the island including a devastating Blunderbuss shotgun, a new bow, cutlass, daggers and the Beekeeper's Staff. You will also be able to acquire new skills which will aid you on your quest as well as an upgraded metal detector which will enable you to find even more loot caches."
The DLC will cost £14.99 / €19.99 / and will be available across all platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC. Game Pass subscribers will receive a 10 percent discount.
Atomfall released back in March and was quickly described as a British Fallout. It's inspired by the real life Windscale nuclear incident in 1950s Cumbria, in northern England.
Over 2.5 million people have played Atomfall since launch.
"Atomfall is largely competent in a lot of areas rather than being unique or genre-leading, but I really enjoyed the world that Rebellion created, the duplicitous main characters, and the post-war sci-fi story," reads our Eurogamer Atomfall review.

  • Atomfall Story Expansion Arrives Next Week – Dare You Visit Wicked Isle?

Category: GamesMay 30, 2025 Atomfall Story Expansion Arrives Next Week – Dare You Visit Wicked Isle?

Ben Fisher, Head of Design, Rebellion

For those of you who are new to the game, Atomfall is an action-survival mystery set in the UK. The story takes place five years after the real-life events of the 1957 Windscale Disaster in the North of England. In the world of Atomfall, a quarantine zone has been established around the Atom Plant and no one has been allowed in or out for five years. Life and society have changed and adapted under these trying circumstances and gangs of strange folk now wander the countryside.

You wake up in a bunker with no idea who you are or how you got there. Given the circumstances you have little choice but to set out on a journey to discover what really happened at Windscale and maybe try to find out who you are in the process.

The Wicked Isle expansion adds a whole new location, with its own set of characters and enemies as well as additional leads, weapons, skills, items and multiple new endings for the main game.

    What is the Wicked Isle?

Surrounded by murky and perilous waters lies a wicked isle… a mysterious new region to explore, nestled off the Cumberland coast. They say there was a creepy old fishing village out there, but the locals haven’t seen anyone from there for years.

The Wicked Isle is an entirely new area for players to explore in Atomfall, accessible by boat from the village of Wyndham. It’s a region that gave us an opportunity to really double down on the Folk Horror influences that you find throughout the game, as well as hints of sci-fi and cold war paranoia for good measure.

When developing the Wicked Isle, there were two real-world locations that acted as key inspirations. The first was Lindisfarne – the “Holy Island” – which is a monastery on an island off the coast of Britain and was famously raided by Vikings in the 9th century. On the wicked isle, an Abbey towers over everything and constantly entices you to explore what secrets it holds within.

The other major inspiration was Anthrax Island, a real-world island off the coast of Scotland that was used for military experiments during the Second World War. The entire island was quarantined until the 1990s as a result of the tests, and you might find evidence of similar experiments as you explore Wicked Isle.

    Explore the Isle’s Mysteries

Shrouded by dense fog, this strange isle holds secrets that lead to the heart of the mystery of what really happened at the Windscale Plant.

The Wicked Isle is located close to the Atom Plant and as a result, infection had spread rapidly and had a significant effect on the environment and the people that live there. You will have to tread carefully!

As you investigate the island you will uncover new leads and story threads. While some of these are standalone stories, some leads link back to the overarching narrative of Atomfall as you seek to uncover what really happened.

You will have to travel back to the mainland in search of clues and items which will in turn unlock multiple new potential endings for the main game.

    Uncover New Treasures

While exploring you will find new items, weapons, and skills to help you as you survive in the Quarantine Zone. Deadly blunderbusses, upgraded metal detectors, and otherworldly abilities are just some of the things you’ll find on the isle.

In creating these new weapons, we had an immediate and impactful opportunity to link to the key themes we were exploring in this story expansion – whether it be the Blunderbuss and Cutlass tying to the nautical history of the isle itself or some of the stranger ritualistic weapons used by the pagan druids who have made this their home.

However, I’m most excited to see how people interact with the new abilities that the Wicked Isle brings. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but you’re going to find some pretty weird stuff going on out there.

    Face Fearsome Foes

The inhabitants of the isle have not escaped the impact of the disaster. A deranged druid cult has become even more powerful through their pagan rituals; roaming bandits have embraced the island’s nautical past and strange creatures lurk in the watery depths. If you want to survive, you’ll need to be prepared to fight back.

The response from the community to Atomfall has been incredible and we cannot wait for players to experience Wicked Isle. The stories and leads you uncover there and the people you will meet along the way add even greater depth to the mystery of Atomfall.

Available from June 3, the Wicked Isle Story Expansion Pack can be bought separately and is also included in the Atomfall Deluxe Edition and Atomfall Deluxe Upgrade. Game Pass subscribers will also receive a 10% discount. We hope you enjoy visiting the dark and lonely waters.

Rebellion Developments has revealed the release date for Atomfall’s Wicked Isle Expansion. Dropping June 3, this story-based DLC will send players to a new location called Midsummer Island. Once there, they’ll have to contend with new enemy factions--including infected druids who use severed heads like lanterns--strange fauna, and more while exploring story threads that could lead to alternate endings for the main game.Midsummer Island will seemingly be a tough place to explore thanks to its close proximity to the Windscale Nuclear Plant; the level of infection is higher there than Atomfall’s other environments. Thankfully, fans won’t be thrown to the radioactive wolves without some form of help. New weapons like the Blunderbuss shotgun will be available on the island. There will also be new skills to unlock, items to craft, and an upgraded metal detector to find. Essentially, players should have enough tools to stave off death for a long as possible. Atomfall has proven to be quite the survival game. Featuring an interesting mission structure, challenging combat, and unique RPG elements, it easily stands out amongst the genre’s best. • 'Xbox Game Pass is finally hitting its stride but is it enough?'

Microsoft's subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has grown into a must-have this year thanks to a whole host of big releases, but is it enough to help Xbox catch up to PlayStation?Tech13:00, 23 May 2025Game Pass is arguably more important than an Xbox console these daysIt’d be fair to say at times that Xbox’s strategy this console generation has been clear as mud. From its opening salvo of multiplatform releases on PlayStation and Switch, to other games being released day and date on other systems, and some even looking better on PS5 Pro, you’d be reasonably wondering if you need an Xbox at all.‌In fact, Microsoft agrees, with its “This is an Xbox” pretty much labelling everything except your toaster and the kitchen sink as a console of sorts. The Xbox as we know it is long gone, it seems, but in its place, Xbox Game Pass feels like it’s grown in momentum month after month .‌Is it enough to turn the tide? It’s hard to say.Halo Infinite marked a sort of 'false dawn' for Game Pass back in 2021Cast your mind back to late 2021. Microsoft released Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite in consecutive months, and it felt as though Xbox Game Pass was about to kick into overdrive.Article continues belowSadly, things went a little quieter after that, but now, years later, it feels Xbox Game Pass is poised to finally hit some kind of stride. It’d be fair to say that Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard has left it with a studio portfolio that would make many envious, but it’s not really managed to line up its releases. Even Avowed, one of this year’s best games, was slated for last year before Microsoft nudged it to 2025.Still, as it turns out, having great games on your platform will get players through the door, and if you’ve got a PC then you’re in an even better position.‌Stalker 2 has been heavily patched since launchSeptember saw Frostpunk 2 arrive on Xbox Game Pass for PC, while October added Call of Duty Black Ops 6. November brought with it STALKER 2 on day one, and December saw the year out with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.Unlike 2021, though, Microsoft has kept things moving between calendar years. January kicked off with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black as a stealth release, along with GOTY sequel Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. February added Avowed, March brought with it Atomfall, and April added South of Midnight, critical darling Blue Prince, and the day one release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.‌All of these games are available on PS5, sure, but the cost would be astronomical to play all of them, and Microsoft still isn’t done.DOOM: The Dark Ages is on PC and Xbox, along with Monster Train 2, this month, while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 remakes , Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Gears of War: Reloaded, The Outer Worlds 2 and much more are still coming in 2025.It’s a frankly ridiculous list of games with more to come in 2026, and that’s saying nothing of freebies like in-game items for League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and more, as well as this week’s announcement of a huge retro game collection .‌ESO is still growing, even after a decadeOne of the biggest knocks against Game Pass in recent years has been the increase in price, and while there’s an argument to be made about Microsoft’s tiers making it harder to know if you’re getting a game on day one, Xbox Game Pass Core continues to grow.Core is cheaper than the Ultimate option that includes console and PC, but it does have a sizeable collection of games for budget-conscious players.‌The recently added Retro Classics are included, for example, as well as Bethesda hits like DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, and Fallout 4. For casual gamers, that might be enough. In fact, there’s a whole host of games included that could consume your week if you let them, like State of Decay 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Stardew Valley. That means there’s likely to be something for everyone while you wait for more recent releases to trickle down.‌Game Pass has really come into its own this yearMost of my friends have a PlayStation 5, so if a game doesn’t have cross-play, that’s where I play my games—Game Pass or no.I do wonder how many feel the same, and see the appeal of Game Pass but simply don’t have the inclinationto pick up a second console to play games cheaper in the long run, especially with so many coming to PlayStation in the future.‌Given Microsoft now has the keys to Warcraft, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Gears of War, Halo, Forza and so much more, I wonder if there’s ever a scenario where they start to rebuild walls between their franchises.Sure, Call of Duty will keep making money hand over fist on as many platforms as possible, but would the next Dishonored be worth putting on all platforms when you could keep it to the Xbox platform as an added incentive?Microsoft can’t be happy with being in second place for another console generation, and while I do wonder if Sony will eventually reckon with rising budgets by starting to move its own games elsewhere, I’d wager we’ll get one more Xbox generation at most before the company goes the way of SEGA.Article continues belowWhat do you think? Microsoft's subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has grown into a must-have this year thanks to a whole host of big releases, but is it enough to help Xbox catch up to PlayStation?Tech13:00, 23 May 2025Game Pass is arguably more important than an Xbox console these days(Image: Future Publishing via Getty Images)It’d be fair to say at times that Xbox’s strategy this console generation has been clear as mud. It’s hard to say.Halo Infinite marked a sort of 'false dawn' for Game Pass back in 2021(Image: ESA PR Supplied.)Cast your mind back to late 2021. Microsoft released Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite in consecutive months, and it felt as though Xbox Game Pass was about to kick into overdrive.Article continues belowSadly, things went a little quieter after that (and Halo’s momentum was curtailed for other reasons), but now, years later, it feels Xbox Game Pass is poised to finally hit some kind of stride. It’d be fair to say that Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard has left it with a studio portfolio that would make many envious, but it’s not really managed to line up its releases. Even Avowed, one of this year’s best games (and one we’ll touch on shortly), was slated for last year before Microsoft nudged it to 2025.Still, as it turns out, having great games on your platform will get players through the door, and if you’ve got a PC then you’re in an even better position.‌Stalker 2 has been heavily patched since launch(Image: GSC Game World)September saw Frostpunk 2 arrive on Xbox Game Pass for PC, while October added Call of Duty Black Ops 6. February added Avowed, March brought with it Atomfall, and April added South of Midnight, critical darling Blue Prince, and the day one release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.‌All of these games are available on PS5, sure, but the cost would be astronomical to play all of them, and Microsoft still isn’t done.DOOM: The Dark Ages is on PC and Xbox, along with Monster Train 2, this month, while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 remakes , Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Gears of War: Reloaded, The Outer Worlds 2 and much more are still coming in 2025.It’s a frankly ridiculous list of games with more to come in 2026, and that’s saying nothing of freebies like in-game items for League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and more, as well as this week’s announcement of a huge retro game collection .‌ESO is still growing, even after a decade(Image: Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media )One of the biggest knocks against Game Pass in recent years has been the increase in price, and while there’s an argument to be made about Microsoft’s tiers making it harder to know if you’re getting a game on day one, Xbox Game Pass Core continues to grow.Core is cheaper than the Ultimate option that includes console and PC, but it does have a sizeable collection of games for budget-conscious players.‌The recently added Retro Classics are included, for example, as well as Bethesda hits like DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, and Fallout 4. For casual gamers, that might be enough. In fact, there’s a whole host of games included that could consume your week if you let them, like State of Decay 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Stardew Valley. That means there’s likely to be something for everyone while you wait for more recent releases to trickle down.‌Game Pass has really come into its own this year(Image: Microsoft)Most of my friends have a PlayStation 5, so if a game doesn’t have cross-play, that’s where I play my games—Game Pass or no.I do wonder how many feel the same, and see the appeal of Game Pass but simply don’t have the inclination (or money) to pick up a second console to play games cheaper in the long run, especially with so many coming to PlayStation in the future.‌Given Microsoft now has the keys to Warcraft, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Gears of War, Halo, Forza and so much more, I wonder if there’s ever a scenario where they start to rebuild walls between their franchises.Sure, Call of Duty will keep making money hand over fist on as many platforms as possible, but would the next Dishonored be worth putting on all platforms when you could keep it to the Xbox platform as an added incentive?Microsoft can’t be happy with being in second place for another console generation, and while I do wonder if Sony will eventually reckon with rising budgets by starting to move its own games elsewhere (and not just to PC), I’d wager we’ll get one more Xbox generation at most before the company goes the way of SEGA.Article continues belowWhat do you think? Does Game Pass interest you? Are you always likely to play where your friends are? And can Microsoft keep up this momentum? For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.‌‌‌

Monster Hunter Wilds x Street Fighter 6 Collaboration Goes Live on May 28th
It adds an Akuma armor set, a Blanka-Chan Palico set, new quests, gestures and even a recreation of the Drive Impact system.

Capcom has finally revealed its first collaboration for Monster Hunter Wilds: Street Fighter 6. The star of the show is Akuma, for whom players can unlock an armor set and layered equipment for. Check out the reveal trailer below – it kicks off on May 28th.
The armor isn’t just cosmetic. You can use Akuma’s moves, including the Gou Hadoken and Gou Shoryuken, with the full set. The equipped weapon determines the damage, and if you equip the armor set instead of the layered version, combos and other attacks can inflict Stun. Even the Drive Impact system is somewhat recreated.
Two new quests, “Demonic Strength” and “True Strength,” are available and dole out rewards. You can also access “Ultimate Strength” at Hunter Rank 21. The Palico also gets a Blanka-Chan set and layered equipment, and you can customize your Hunter Profile with a new background, nameplate and pose.
Paid DLC will go live the same day, adding a Chun-Li outfit for the Handler and a Cammy outfit. If that wasn’t enough, a new 8-star Tempered Monster is also being added. Stay tuned for more details, especially with Title Update 2 due this Summer.

  • Atomfall Was “Immediately Profitable” at Launch, Sequel Plans Being Discussed

Sniper Elite and Zombie Army developer Rebellion released a new IP earlier this year in the form of Atomfall, and though success is never guaranteed for a new IP, Rebellion’s latest has got off to a great start. Shortly after its launch, Rebellion announced that the game – which is also available via Game Pass on Xbox and PC – had crossed 2 million players across all platforms, and now the developer has elaborated further.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Game Business, Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley revealedthe fact that Atomfall was “immediately profitable” for the British studio at launch, in spite of the fact that a portion of its player base joined in through Game Pass and not direct sales. Kingsley went on to add that plans for sequels or spinoffs set in the Atomfall universe were also being discussed, while work on post-launch updates and DLC for Atomfall itself is, of course, also continuing.
In our review of Atomfall, we awarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Atomfall concocts an engrossing story in a world full of intrigue and whimsy, while delivering a gameplay experience that is defined by strong world design, rewarding exploration, and an impressive emphasis on player agency. Utterly gorgeous and wonderfully eccentric, Rebellion’s post-nuclear dystopia is well worth checking out, even with some issues in combat and stealth.” Read the full review through here.
Atomfall is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
