However, those preview builds are not flawless and have a pretty long list of known issues. One of those issues, though, is a rather delightful one: Windows 11's default startup jingle has been accidentally replaced with one from 2006. After Windows Insiders discovered that Windows 11 now plays the Windows Vista startup sound and reported it to Microsoft, the company acknowledged it and added it to the list of known bugs in the latest Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds: This week’s flight comes with a delightful blast from the past and will play the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the Windows 11 boot sound. We’re working on a fix. Although Windows Vista is nearly two decades old, it was brought to everyone's attention this week after Apple introduced macOS 26 Tahoe with its controversial "Liquid Glass" redesign, which many consider a rather miserable remix of Windows Aero from Windows Vista and Windows 7. While it is definitely an interesting coincidence, Microsoft did not intentionally replace the startup sound in Windows 11 preview builds. Brandon LeBlanc from the Windows Insider team confirmed in his X that that is a bug after joking about everyone talking about Windows Vista once again in light of Apple's latest announcements: It is worth noting that if you miss the startup sound of Windows Vista, you can still use it in modern Windows versions. All it takes is the original WAV file and a few clicks in the Windows Registry and Sound settings. Color Lim is a puzzle platformer where you need to use your slimy color-switching ability to solve puzzles and save a small village. This is a fantastic, smooth puzzle platform that has you playing a colorless slime called Lim who is looking to find their true color. At first, you aren’t really colorless – you are blue, but this isn’t your true and only color, as you can change and adapt when needed. Why is that important? Because in this world, color determines everything. Being able to absorb and transform to different colors allows you to go through specific platforms or to spray slime and then slide into the walls of the world, finding a new way to navigate around. There isn’t a limit on your own slime, so you are able to blast out some goop and then inject yourself into the walls, moving quickly around levels and solving puzzles. There are enemies that are looking to harm you, too, but these can be easily avoided most of the time. Color Lim doesn’t just have endless platforms to enjoy, but also has a little story showcased through cute characters who seem quite helpful! In this world, something bad has happened, and now there is a small village that is rebuilding, needing your help. As someone with such a great ability, you can find yourself using your colors to help them. I got to play a short demo of Color Lim at Pocket Gamer Connects Barcelona where I really liked how sleek and fast the movement felt for the game. The cute characters and little hints of a story captivated me, especially when exploring the town. However, I did feel that sometimes it wasn’t obvious what to do next or where to go – especially in the town where the platforms were hard to determine against what was just the background. Hopefully, these minor issues will be fixed before release. Color Lim is currently in development, but in the meantime, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist. About The Author

Cattle Crisis sees aliens making off with our precious cows, so you’ll need to gun those ships down to rescue our beloved bovine buddies. The game only features a single level, but you’d best believe I have not been able to complete it yet as it makes the most of its brief playtime. Enemies come at you hard and fast, each covering the screen in various bullet patterns that overlap with only a little room to spare. Thankfully it’s just enough to scoot your ship to safety most of the time if you’re precise, but I am unfortunately not particularly precise with my controller movements the more frantic things get on the screen. Even with generous checkpoints and a single level, my shaky hands don’t make this easy. Like most spaceship shooters, there’s some extra powerful boosts you can put to smart use. As you down ships, you will release the kidnapped cows that are inside some of them. Collecting these cows increases your Hyper Bar, and once that’s halfway full, you can shift into Hyper Mode and really blast your enemies. Taking a hit in this mode won’t kill you, but you will drop out of Hyper Mode (and it’s smarter to end it early by hitting the Hyper Mode button again to launch a screen-clearing bomb). You can earn way more cows (and a higher score) by shooting foes point-blank, so it’s up to you how much risk you want to take to get into Hyper Mode faster and crank up that score. Cattle Crisis is short but offers a great deal of challenge and possibilities for high scores through careful risk-taking. Just the same, it offers a handful of checkpoints you can start from (even though it’s just one stage) if you feel your shooter skills aren’t amazing (like mine). It’s sharp, sounds great, and handles well, creating a nice bite-sized shooter package. Cattle Crisis is available now on itch.io (and you can try it out in your browser). About The Author
