LG And Lenovo Confirm “GDDR7” Memory For GeForce RTX 5050: New Gaming Laptops Prepared Ahead Of Launch
Laptop manufacturers prepare their newest budget gaming laptops, powered by the upcoming RTX 5050 Blackwell GPU.
LG Prepares Gram Pro 16 While Lenovo Readies Legion 5 and IdeaPad Pro 5i with NVIDIA RTX 5050 GPU, Featuring 8 GB GDDR7 Memory
There is some confusion circulating online regarding the memory type on the GeForce RTX 5050 GPU.
The RTX 5050 is NVIDIA's entry-level solution in the Blackwell lineup, which is supposedly releasing after NVIDIA launches the RTX 5060 GPU.
Apparently, the RTX 5050 is thought to be the only RTX 50 GPU to have GDDR6 memory, unlike other GPUs, which ship with GDDR7.
At least for the laptop variant, it appears that the RTX 5050 GPU won't feature the older GDDR6 memory.
One of the recent reports confirmed the same when we saw ASUS preparing an RTX 5050-based gaming laptop, revealing GDDR7 memory.
Two more such leaks indicate the same, and it's likely that you are going to see GDDR7 on the laptop RTX 5050 GPU.
As spotted by @momomo_us, both LG and Lenovo have prepared some new gaming laptops with the RTX 5050.
In both cases, we can clearly see "GDDR7" as the memory type mentioned in the specs for the GeForce RTX 5050.
LG's spec sheet shows that the LG Gram Pro 16, based on the Core Ultra 7 255H processor, is going to be available with the NVIDIA RTX 5050 with "GDDR7 8GB" memory.

The spec sheet reveals the core specs of the laptop, like system memory, display, and connectivity.
Similarly, Lenovo has prepared two gaming laptops with the RTX 5050.
One is the Legion 5 15IRX10 model, featuring RTX 5050 8 GB GDDR7 memory.
The product page doesn't exist on the official website, but it does appear in the SERPs.
Lenovo has one more model called the IdeaPad Pro 5i, which you can find live on the website and features the RTX 5050 GPU.
However, the specs don't reveal the memory type and simply list the GPU name and its memory capacity.
Nonetheless, from multiple leaks, we can conclude that at least the RTX 5050 mobile GPU is going to be based on the faster GDDR7 memory.
Hopefully, the RTX 5050 desktop variant also comes with GDDR7 since GDDR6 is noticeably slower and can have an adverse effect on performance.
The RTX 5050 is expected to be based on the GB207 GPU die and should feature 2560 CUDA cores and a TDP of 130W.
More will be revealed in the coming days, especially after NVIDIA gets done with the RTX 5060 launch.
