  • How To Beat Monster Hunter Wilds’ Craziest Hunt

Jump ToThe general gameplay loop of Monster Hunter Wilds is using cool weapons to fight strong monsters—and then using their parts to make even cooler weapons to fight even stronger monsters. That cycle likely doesn’t have many hitches until you have to wrestle with Zoh Shia. While their debut hunt can be a strong wall, the High-Rank version is an absolute gauntlet. Whether it’s your first time or your tenth time, here’s how to farm and beat Zoh Shia.Suggested ReadingThe 3 Best And 3 Worst Korok Challenges In Tears Of The Kingdom

The opportunity to fight Zoh Shia a second time comes once you’ve reached Hunter Rank 50. Talking to Werner will start a new story quest called “An Unexpected Summons” that revolves around it returning. However, unlike other monsters, there isn’t any related optional quest added afterward for you to easily replay. That doesn’t mean you can’t farm the monster and gather more of its parts to make cool-looking armor and weapons. Here are your options for how to hunt Zoh Shia again:Wait until it randomly appears in Wyveria during an Inclemency season. You can keep resting to increase the chances of it appearingSave it as an investigation to fight it up to three times. This will require it to show up in Wyveria firstFilter for it through SOS Quests and help other hunters take one downI do want to point out that Zoh Shia won’t physically appear in Wyveria like other monsters. Just like Jin Dahaad, you’ll have to wait until a notification pops up in the Environment Overview to challenge them. The ensuing hunt takes place on a separate map, which is the Dragontorch Shrine in this case.Screenshot: Zoh Shia’s suggested strategy screen, showing which body parts are breakable. You’re always in for a challenging endeavor with Zoh Shia. It uses multiple elements and has some of the biggest attacks in the game. Thankfully, you can give yourself an edge by exploiting the following weaknesses:Elemental Weaknesses – DragonWeapon Type Weaknesses – Cut, BluntBreakable Parts – Head, Foreleg x2, Tail, Wings x2Susceptible Status Ailments – Blastblight, Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, StunScreenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuThis hunt has a distinct mechanic that you might recognize from a few spots on the Wyveria map. Some of Zoh Shia’s attacks will create crystals, which it can then charge with Fire or Thunder attacks. They explode soon after, dealing the associated elemental damage to any nearby hunters and possibly causing a chain reaction with nearby crystals. The good news is that you can make them work in your favor. Using your slinger to shoot the crystals with Dragon and Thunder pods will cause them to explode and inflict the corresponding elemental damage to Zoh Shia. Considering how often its attacks generate crystals, you can quickly create your own elemental chain reaction and dish out some big hits to the monster. Fortunately, both of these slinger ammo types are easily crafted with the Wyrmsbane and Thundercryst that spawn in the arena.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuBring gear with high resistance to Fire and Thunder. Blight Resistance is an especially helpful skill if you have pieces of the Guardian Arkveld armor set or the Blight Charm talisman. Staying underneath this behemoth and near its back legs is one of the safest spots for the entire hunt, although your damage output will be limited. Their evolving set of attacks will eventually start flushing you out from that position as well, so don’t rely on it too often.Zoh Shia cycles through multiple phases as it takes more damage. The monster is completely covered in white crystal armor during its first phase. Your attacks will be more effective if you manage to break the armor, but it will eventually regenerate. Time your dodges well and try mounting if you can. I’ve always been able to open four wounds along its back with plenty of time to spare. The second phase begins with the armor on its head breaking off to reveal a black head that can now use fire attacks. You’ll need to watch out for deceptively quick fireballs and an attack that sets everything underneath it ablaze. From this point on, it can trigger crystals to create some large explosions. Trigger them first to destroy the armor quicker! You’ll know the third phase starts when Zoh Shia flies to the front of the arena and lands with a huge tremor. Gigantic crystals will rise out of the ground as it sheds its wing armor. Your experiences against Jin Dahaad might convince you to hide behind one of them, but these won’t offer you protection. The heated creature will set them all on fire, which then spreads out to nearly the whole arena. You can easily avoid this attack by making them prematurely explode with your slinger. Each destroyed crystal leaves behind an area safe from the fire. Not only are there more burning attacks in the third phase, but fiery pieces of debris will also begin falling. Don’t be surprised if you’re dodging more exploding crystals than triggering them. You might have to contend with a slightly smaller version of the attack that started this phase as well. The best ways to avoid that are to move as far away as possible, or to get right behind the monster. All of this leads to the final phase, with Zoh Shia’s entire black body being revealed. On top of the relentless fire attacks and fiery debris, you’ll also have to deal with a sideways lightning blast and random lightning bolts. Any one of these can set off crystals and potentially ruin the hunt. Do your best to trigger them first and avoid every intended or random attack that comes your way. This is a particularly great time to bring down the two hanging shrine fragment pieces on the sides of the arena. Since this is the last and most dangerous phase, you want to end it as quickly as possible.Tackling this with a coordinated link party of friends will make the hunt far less difficult. I’ve been able to win plenty of times with random hunters, although I’ve typically felt like the only person aware of the crystal mechanic.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuBeating this tough monster is plenty worth it for the awesome armor and weapons you can make from its parts. I highly recommend leafing through Zoh Shia’s monster information tabs to determine how to best earn any needed parts. Whether it’s your first time or your tenth time, here’s how to farm and beat Zoh Shia.Suggested ReadingThe 3 Best And 3 Worst Korok Challenges In Tears Of The Kingdom Share SubtitlesOffEnglishview videoSuggested ReadingThe 3 Best And 3 Worst Korok Challenges In Tears Of The Kingdom Share SubtitlesOffEnglishScreenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuYour first fight against this constructed creature takes place at the end of chapter three, effectively acting as your last Low Rank hunt. Thankfully, you can give yourself an edge by exploiting the following weaknesses:Elemental Weaknesses – DragonWeapon Type Weaknesses – Cut, BluntBreakable Parts – Head, Foreleg x2, Tail (can also be severed), Wings x2Susceptible Status Ailments – Blastblight, Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, Stun (less effective rate)Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuThis hunt has a distinct mechanic that you might recognize from a few spots on the Wyveria map. If you want a simplified list of each Zoh Shia drop, I’ve included one below that’s sorted by most to least frequent.Zoh Shia Stakeclaw (100% chance for breaking either Foreleg)Blackember Mass (100% chance for breaking either Wingarm)Zoh Shia Crystalhorn (100% chance for breaking the Head)Zoh Shia CrystaltailGuardian Blood +Zoh Shia CrystalscaleZoh Shia LayershellZoh Shia Certificate SFaux Whitegleam OrbDefeating Zoh Shia is a huge accomplishment that you should be proud of. The Tempered Mizutsune fight can admittedly be just as intense, but nothing so far feels as epic as a Zoh Shia hunt. .

The only requirements are being at Hunter Rank 21 and having already completed the “Fishing: Life, In Microcosm” side mission for Kanya. Once you’ve hunted the monster down one time, it will start spawning in both the Scarlet Forest and Ruins of Wyveria.Tempered Mizutsune can spawn in these same areas, albeit only once you’ve leveled up more and at least reached chapter six of the main quest line. I can say from personal experience that the Tempered version spawned more often during a Fallow season or an Inclemency. Feel free to use the Rest function a couple of times to make it show up.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuMizutsune’s most distinctive aspect are its bubbles, which are dispersed during many of its attacks. Getting hit by most of these will inflict you with the unique Bubbleblight ailment. This ailment is split into a minor and a major stage. Minor Bubbleblight isn’t too bad, as it’s a buff that enhances your evasion. Getting hit with another bubble will change it to the more frustrating Major Bubbleblight, which causes you to slip while running and be sent farther away by large attacks or explosions.A Nulberry is unfortunately not able to cure this status ailment, although they’re still worth bringing since Mizutsune can additionally inflict both Waterblight and Fireblight. The quickest way to cure Bubbleblight is to use a Cleanser. Alternatively, if you have fought this monster before and are just farming, equipping Mizutsune-forged armor is a big help. Its Bubbly Dance skill will prevent Major Bubbleblight so that you can focus more on dealing damage. If you don’t have the armor or run out of Cleanser, your next best bet is waiting 30 seconds for it to disappear. Some bubbles apply different effects, which makes things more complicated. Thankfully, they’re color-coded; however, you’ll still need to be quick on your feet when they’re coming right at you. Here are the different-colored bubbles and what they do:Clear: Deals damage and inflicts BubbleblightGreen: Provides healing and inflicts BubbleblightRed: Provides a temporary attack boost and inflicts BubbleblightFiery Blue: Deals damage and inflicts FireblightTrying to dodge these bubbles isn’t always the best use of your time. Both Slinger ammo and attacks from your weapon can pop them, although slower melee weapons can require precise timing. Using ranged weapons like Heavy or Light Bowguns is a lot more convenient.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuMizutsune is a highly mobile monster that can hit hard and use its water-based attacks to trigger a variety of status ailments. Start your hunts with the following weaknesses in mind because you’ll want to take advantage of them:Elemental Weaknesses: Thunder, DragonWeapon Type Weaknesses: Cut, BluntBreakable Parts: Head x2, Claws x2, Tail, Dorsal FinWeak Point: MouthSusceptible Status Ailments: Blastblight, Exhaust, Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, StunScreenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuEven though you can tackle this thing as early as Hunter Rank 21, I suggest holding off for a bit. Mizutsune dishes out massive damage that can be mitigated with better armor and weapons. Wait until you’ve finished chapter five and can farm Gore Magala hunts. Weapons crafted from Gore Magala parts dish out Dragon element damage, while its armor offers great Water resistance. These are huge advantages to have when fighting this creature.Any weapon type can work, but slower ones will feel extra cumbersome against Mizutsune. Between the erratic movements and seemingly endless bubbles, it’s convenient to have quicker weapons like Dual Blades or Sword and Shield. Their multi-hitting nature will help with applying elemental damage as well. I advise pinning it down using traps and different ailments if you’re still having trouble landing hits. You should also watch out for its Waterblight-inflicting jet stream attacks. Mizutsune has a handful of moves that involve vertical or horizontal sweeping water beams. Thankfully, they’re easily telegraphed and have small hitboxes. Make sure to exploit Mizutsune’s long recovery periods after using these attacks.Mizutsune’s long-reaching tail attacks are another notable characteristic. The most deadly of these are the tail slams, which come out fast and can take out all of your health if your defense is low. There is a backflip variant to hit anyone behind and another where it twists its body in the air to slam those in front. I’ve seen the latter countered with an Offset Attack, but dodging it is the less risky solution. All of the above is amplified when the monster enters its unique enraged state. Breaking its head will enable it to transition into a powered-up mode akin to Soulseer Mizutsune from prior entries, complete with blue fire flaring from its left eye. Mizutsune will start shooting fire-covered bubbles in addition to using attacks more rapidly and aggressively when this state is triggered. While you can try to avoid this by not breaking the head, the trade-off is that you’ll be inflicting less damage. The one positive to this enraged state is that it will tire quicker and eventually become exhausted. That’s your cue to start dealing as much damage as possible.Don’t feel bad if these hunts leave you frustrated. There is a lot to keep track of with little time for reaction. Tempered Mizutsune is even more challenging and might just be the toughest fight in Monster Hunter Wilds yet. Still, everything we’ve mentioned will apply all the same. Memorizing which animations initiate which attacks will go a long way. Otherwise, bring your best gear, outfit them with appropriate decorations, and carry the Armorcharm and Powercharm items for good measure.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuNothing makes a tough fight feel worth it more than some good loot. It’s forecasting sales of 54 million units across its various franchises for fiscal year 2026.
In its report (courtesy of X user MauroNL), the company has also revealed new sales figures for its biggest franchises.
The Resident Evil franchise now sits at 170 million units sold.
Monster Hunter is second, boasting 120 million units.
Street Fighter has 56 million units sold, Mega Man has 43 million units, and Devil May Cry has 33 million units.
Along with this, the company has also confirmed sales figures for some of its less famous franchises, including Okami with 4.6 million units, Onimusha with 8.7 million, and Ace Attorney with 13 million units.
Monster Hunter Wilds – the most recent release by Capcom – has seen incredible success right from its release.
Back in March, the company had revealed that the game had sold more than 10 million copies in its first month alone.
For some context, the previous game in the franchise, Monster Hunter Rise, needed an entire year to reach the same milestone, while Monster Hunter World took even longer: five years.
More recently, Monster Hunter Wilds kicked off its Blossomdance Festival, bringing with it a host of free and paid content.
As part of the Blossomdance Festival, players can see new Spring-themed decorations in the Grand Hub, where the Diva can also be seen performing a new song to celebrate the festival.
There are also new events that offer new armour sets for players to craft.
When it comes to larger updates, Monster Hunter Wilds got Title Update 1 back in April.
The update introduced Mizutsune as the newest addition to the game’s roster, with a host of new armours and weapons for players to craft.
The update also introduced the Grand Hub, where players can hang out between hunts and participate in various activities.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

If you’re wondering about why the title has been so popular, here are our thoughts.
When it comes to the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom revealed last month that the most recent title in the series – the remake of Resident Evil 4 from 2023 – had sold more than 10 million copies.
The action horror title is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Check out our review for more details.
Capcom has a host of projects in the works for the future as well, with games like Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
Capcom is also working with CLOVERS for the development of a sequel to classic action adventure game Okami.
More immediately, Capcom is getting ready to release a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on May 23.

Capcom Credits Monster Hunter Wilds for Record-Breaking Sales and Income in FY 2025
In its recent earnings report, Capcom reported an incredibly successful fiscal year 2025. The company has boasted of this being the 12th consecutive year where it has seen growth in its profits, as well as being the year with the highest amount of consolidated sales and operating income in its history. It’s forecasting sales of 54 million units across its various franchises for fiscal year 2026. In its report (courtesy of X user MauroNL), the company has also revealed new sales figures for its biggest franchises. The Resident Evil franchise now sits at 170 million units sold. Along with this, the company has also confirmed sales figures for some of its less famous franchises, including Okami with 4.6 million units, Onimusha with 8.7 million, and Ace Attorney with 13 million units.
