  • Netflix Games boss says the streamer must strive to cause 'disruption'
    www.gamedeveloper.com
Chris Kerr, News EditorMarch 19, 20255 Min ReadImage via Game DeveloperWe're in a fourth floor suite in the Metreon building opposite the Moscone in San Francisco. This is the location Netflix Games has chosen to outline its vision for its video game business, which has so far looked bereft of direction following leadership changes, studio closures, and layoffs. The streamer has spent years scaling up in a bid to break into the industry, but according to Netflix Games president Alain Tascanwho's addressing journalists alongside VP of games and interactive experiences Jeet Shroffthe company "still has a lot of work to do.""It's a journey that we are coming into and we need to scale and build our gaming business," says Tascan. "We are not yet the Netflix of Games, but that's exactly where we're heading."To get there, Tascan feels the company must ruffle feathers. The former Epic exec, who replaced outbound Netflix exec Mike Verdu in July 2024, suggests the game industry has entered an era of stagnation and is crying out for change."I've been in the industry for a long time and we know there have been headwinds, unfortunately. Some of them are of course associated with cost [...] but what I see is also, over the last 10 years, we haven't seen a lot of disruption in terms of format and gameplay," he says.Related:"While nothing is guaranteed. If we continue doing the same stuff, there is a big chance we'll get the same result. With Netflix and games [we] have an opportunity to drive real disruption and real innovation with regards to how games are distributed, on what platforms, how we interact with them, and how we engage with the community."To that end, Tascan says the company wants to forge deep connections with players by creating "Only on Netflix" moments. The hope is that a few of those experiences will have debuted by the end of 2025, providing subscribersall of whom can access the company's game roster at no extra costwith a taste of what's to come."[We want to give people] new ways to play and new ways to experience stories, by trying to blur the lines between linear and interactive. We've been saying that for 30 years [in the game industry] for the old people in the room, but I feel that we are at that point."I say sometimes to the team we have a golden ticket, so what are we going to do with it? I feel like this is a place where we can experiment and do things that hopefully will make history."Tascan believes success for Netflix would benefit the wider industry, helping to create a "blue sky in a place where there are dark clouds."Related:Netflix Games must prove its worth or risk being viewed as a "distraction"Elaborating on how Netflix intends to execute on that vision, Shroff explains the company is taking some cues from Fortnite. He explains the wildly popular battle royale title is something of paradox, surrounding players with the familiar trappings of shooting mechanics and multiplayer action while simultaneously offering something distinctly 'new' by incorporating metaverse elements in the form of celebrity skins and evolving seasons. That juxtaposition is something Netflix Games hopes to replicate in its own way."You'll see us doing a lot of things that are perhaps a little bit familiar and recognizable, and then there is this idea of then pushing them into the unexpected and getting a little bit uncomfortable. We like to say we're uncomfortably excited," says Shroff. The familiar might be a title that leans on a big recognizable properties like Squid Game or a deal that brings a huge franchise like Grand Theft Auto to Netflix Games. Both of those things have, of course, already materialized. Those safer bets might then allow the company to take bigger swings in the form of new IPsuch as Spirit Crossing, the cooperative life sim unveiled by internal studio Spry Fox earlier today.Related:"We just want to be really intentional about where we choose to [use IP] and how we do that, and then with the unexpected I think the focus is going to be on innovation," continues Shroff. "We're here to really push the boundaries of what's possible. [...] We want to challenge what you think a game can be."Shroff feels Netflix Games must display that sort of "bullishness" in order to move forward. Part of that drive will also see the company prioritize titles that can be played on the big screen."The other focus area is what we're calling party games. We really want to reimagine what social engaging experiences can unfold in the living room," he continues. The company wants to explore that market by doubling down on the idea of smartphones as versatile and outlandish conduits of playenabling Netflix's party game experiences to "spill out into the living room.""With [smartphones] you have a second screen, you have a gyroscope, you have a speaker. You have so many ways to interactalong with the fact that you have information that perhaps is only available to youso as people are playing there's all this amazing social gameplay that can unfold," adds Shroff."We're really looking at pushing the boundaries of what party gamesor couch play, as we call itfeels like."The size and scale of the family market evidently isn't lost on Netflix. Tascan explains Netflix Games is also committed to becoming a "destination for kids," and believes that providing parents with a safe place filled with high-quality games will be a huge boon.He explains 15 percent of the Netflix subscriber base is already engaging with children's programming, and believes it would be foolish of the company not to think about how its game experiences might serve that audience. It's evident that Netflix doesn't intend to discount a single portion of its userbase. Tascan explains he wants Netflix Games to reach "hundreds of millions of people," and that means matching the wider ambition of Netflix. He says anything less could run the risk of turning Netflix Games into an unwelcome "distraction."Read more about:NetflixGDC 2025Top StoriesAbout the AuthorChris KerrNews Editor, GameDeveloper.comGame Developer news editor Chris Kerr is an award-winning journalist and reporter with over a decade of experience in the game industry. • The scratch coding and sharp constraints at the heart of Animal Well
    www.gamedeveloper.com
Last year, Chicago-based, solo independent developer Shared Memory, headed up by Billy Basso, released its first game: Animal Well. Offering a combat-free approach to the exploration platformer genre (also known as a Metroidvania), Animal Well garnered a wealth of acclaim and praise for its highly stylized design ethos. Once the project was complete, its file size clocked in at a microscopic 33MB. Even compared to other independent games at this scale, shipping a game that takes up less than one-tenth of a gigabyte on a hard drive signifies a feat of technical wizardry.Appropriately, Basso hosted a talk titled, Developing at 5MB per Year: The Making of Animal Well, at the Game Developers Conference this week. Focused on both the scratch coding he used to code the game and the discipline required to stick with a seven-year project, Basso spilled some of his secrets to making such an impressiveand smallgame.First, he broke down the tools he used for various parts of the game, saying, I used Visual Studio for code. That actually covers a lot of development because you dont really get a level editor when youre not using Unity or Unreal, so theres a lot of good data in the game thats hard-coded in C++ files. I did make my own custom level editor thats kinda built into the game that can be toggled on and off. For the sprite and pixel art, he used the program Aseprite for the pixel art, mentioning that he modified the program itself on GitHub after coming up with a bespoke animation format. And for audio production, Basso used Reaper, another common choice for smaller developers.Related:But here is where Basso began to deviate from his peers. Addressing the discipline and workflow side of managing a solo project like Animal Well for nearly a decade, he said, For design and sort of task-tracking production stuff, I would just open up text files in Notepad on my desktop. The crowd chuckled a little before he followed up, I wouldnt even name them or save them. Id just type things in them and then when all the tasks were complete, I would close and then Windows would warn me You might wanna save. This got even more shocked laughs from the packed convention hall.Returning to the development tools he used, Basso demonstrated the various modes of his homebrewed level editor. Using a tool that resembles Super Mario Makers level editor, he showed the palette of every sprite and tile in the game, adding I could just pick one and sort of paint them around. [Designing levels] was just a matter of drawing these sprites and making the screens with all the basic kind of Photoshop-y tools. Basso described a handful of Photoshop-inspired tools like the eye dropper and paint bucket. He even went into the Photoshop install files and extolled the applications paint bucket icon because he liked that tool so much.Related:Exactly 256 rooms in Animal WellHe used these tools to fit Animal Wells world into a 16-by-16-room grid, making exactly 256 separate rooms. Basso said, I couldnt create any more because every room had a one-byte ID to it, so it only had 256 possible values. That was a deliberate choice on his part to avoid any kind of scope creep where possible. Instead, he says he focused on getting the absolute most out of each of the rooms, adding, I just focused on making every room as dense as possible. It was kind of a fun constraint.Animal Well received glowing praise thanks in no small part to its dense, efficient use of its detailed world map. Cramming the entire map into a one-byte system feels appropriate for a game that was hailed by players for its Swiss watch-like complexity and attention to detail.

  • Roborock opens pre-orders for its robot vacuum with an arm
    www.theverge.com
This week, Roborock announced that its highly anticipated Saros Z70 is now available for pre-order. The Z70 features a robotic arm and is one of the most expensive robot vacuums in the world, at $1,899. For the launch, Roborock is sweetening the pot by bundling the new bot with the choice of a free second vacuum cleaner. The company has also finally dethroned iRobot as the number one selling robot vacuum brand globally in both sales volume and revenue, according to analyst firm IDC. Roborock claimed 16 percent of global market share in Q4, while iRobot, which recently announced its in financial trouble, managed 13.7 percent. Fellow Chinese company Ecovacs came in third with 13.5 percent. The Saros Z70 was announced at CES this year and is the first mass-produced robot vacuum with a robotic arm. The OmniGrip arm extends from the robot to pick up small items, including socks, tissues, and sandals, to help it clean your home more effectively. The Z70 also boasts 22,000Pa suction power and Roborocks new StarSight navigation system that combines 3D sensors, cameras, and machine learning to navigate as well as identify and avoid obstacles. The new robot vacuum features an AdaptiLift Chassis, which Roborock introduced on the Qrevo Curv and allows the robot to get up and over high transitions between rooms. Theres also two-in-one mopping and vacuuming capabilities and a multifunction dock that cleans the robots dual-spinning mop pads and fills its water tank, as well as emptying its dustbin. Roborock is offering those who pre-order the Saros Z70 the choice of a free vacuum, with the option of one of eight of its other models. On offer are several upright wet/dry vacs, plus two brand new robot vacuum models. The Qrevo S5V is a lower-priced version of the Qrevo Curv but without AdaptiLift Chassis, according to Roborock spokesperson Ruben Rodriguez, and the Q10 S5 Plus is a less feature-rich version of the Qrevo Edge.Roborock hasnt announced pricing for these new Q models, so its not clear how good a deal this is, but the Qrevo Curv retails for $1,599.99. Among the other vacuums its bundling is the Dyad Pro Combo, which retails for $659.99.The buy one get one free offer helps somewhat with the sticker shock of the Z70, and until robots can climb stairs (which doesnt feel that far away), it can be convenient to have a second robot vac. • Ghost connects its newsletters to the open web
    www.theverge.com
Newsletter platform Ghost switched on its fediverse connectivity this week, allowing bloggers to share their works across the various social platforms that support the open ActivityPub protocol. Ghost initially promised the feature would go live in 2024. But its available now in beta for Ghost(Pro) users, TechCrunch reports. With ActivityPub, users on platforms such as Mastodon, Pixelfed, and Threads can follow and see content from Ghost writers who pay for the Pro subscription. Social users can also comment on pieces regardless of which app theyre on. The openness of Ghost helps it stand out against its larger competitor, Substack, which largely blocks its users from sharing posted content off-platform (and makes it tough to leave). Ghost, however, will let users publish content directly to the fediverse, giving them more freedom.Theres also an Inbox where Ghost users can be fed news articles and blogs across Ghost and WordPress. And Ghost has its own social web reader software that can view posts from compatible social media services; notifies you if someone likes, comments, or shares your content; and lets you customize your public profile. However, it doesnt work smoothly everywhere, as Metas Threads services doesnt allow Ghost users to interact directly with Threads users.Ghost(Pro) users can activate ActivityPub under Ghost Admin > Settings > Labs.

  • A Coding Implementation to Build a Document Search Agent (DocSearchAgent) with Hugging Face, ChromaDB, and Langchain
    www.marktechpost.com
In todays information-rich world, finding relevant documents quickly is crucial. Traditional keyword-based search systems often fall short when dealing with semantic meaning. This tutorial demonstrates how to build a powerful document search engine using:Hugging Faces embedding models to convert text into rich vector representationsChroma DB as our vector database for efficient similarity searchSentence transformers for high-quality text embeddingsThis implementation enables semantic search capabilities finding documents based on meaning rather than just keyword matching. By the end of this tutorial, youll have a working document search engine that can:Process and embed text documentsStore these embeddings efficientlyRetrieve the most semantically similar documents to any queryHandle a variety of document types and search needsPlease follow the detailed steps mentioned below in sequence to implement DocSearchAgent.First, we need to install the necessary libraries.!pip install chromadb sentence-transformers langchain datasetsLets start by importing the libraries well use:import osimport numpy as npimport pandas as pdfrom datasets import load_datasetimport chromadbfrom chromadb.utils import embedding_functionsfrom sentence_transformers import SentenceTransformerfrom langchain.text_splitter import RecursiveCharacterTextSplitterimport timeFor this tutorial, well use a subset of Wikipedia articles from the Hugging Face datasets library. This gives us a diverse set of documents to work with.dataset = load_dataset("wikipedia", "20220301.en", split="train[:1000]")print(f"Loaded {len(dataset)} Wikipedia articles")documents = []for i, article in enumerate(dataset): doc = { "id": f"doc_{i}", "title": article["title"], "text": article["text"], "url": article["url"] } documents.append(doc)df = pd.DataFrame(documents)df.head(3)Now, lets split our documents into smaller chunks for more granular searching:text_splitter = RecursiveCharacterTextSplitter( chunk_size=1000, chunk_overlap=200, length_function=len,)chunks = []chunk_ids = []chunk_sources = []for i, doc in enumerate(documents): doc_chunks = text_splitter.split_text(doc["text"]) chunks.extend(doc_chunks) chunk_ids.extend([f"chunk_{i}_{j}" for j in range(len(doc_chunks))]) chunk_sources.extend([doc["title"]] * len(doc_chunks))print(f"Created {len(chunks)} chunks from {len(documents)} documents")Well use a pre-trained sentence transformer model from Hugging Face to create our embeddings:model_name = "sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2"embedding_model = SentenceTransformer(model_name)sample_text = "This is a sample text to test our embedding model."sample_embedding = embedding_model.encode(sample_text)print(f"Embedding dimension: {len(sample_embedding)}")Now, lets set up Chroma DB, a lightweight vector database perfect for our search engine:chroma_client = chromadb.Client()embedding_function = embedding_functions.SentenceTransformerEmbeddingFunction(model_name=model_name)collection = chroma_client.create_collection( name="document_search", embedding_function=embedding_function)batch_size = 100for i in range(0, len(chunks), batch_size): end_idx = min(i + batch_size, len(chunks)) batch_ids = chunk_ids[i:end_idx] batch_chunks = chunks[i:end_idx] batch_sources = chunk_sources[i:end_idx] collection.add( ids=batch_ids, documents=batch_chunks, metadatas=[{"source": source} for source in batch_sources] ) print(f"Added batch {i//batch_size + 1}/{(len(chunks)-1)//batch_size + 1} to the collection")print(f"Total documents in collection: {collection.count()}")Now comes the exciting part searching through our documents:def search_documents(query, n_results=5): """ Search for documents similar to the query. Args: query (str): The search query n_results (int): Number of results to return Returns: dict: Search results """ start_time = time.time() results = collection.query( query_texts=[query], n_results=n_results ) end_time = time.time() search_time = end_time - start_time print(f"Search completed in {search_time:.4f} seconds") return resultsqueries = [ "What are the effects of climate change?", "History of artificial intelligence", "Space exploration missions"]for query in queries: print(f"\nQuery: {query}") results = search_documents(query) for i, (doc, metadata) in enumerate(zip(results['documents'][0], results['metadatas'][0])): print(f"\nResult {i+1} from {metadata['source']}:") print(f"{doc[:200]}...") Lets create a simple function to provide a better user experience:def interactive_search(): """ Interactive search interface for the document search engine. """ while True: query = input("\nEnter your search query (or 'quit' to exit): ") if query.lower() == 'quit': print("Exiting search interface...") break n_results = int(input("How many results would you like? ")) results = search_documents(query, n_results) print(f"\nFound {len(results['documents'][0])} results for '{query}':") for i, (doc, metadata, distance) in enumerate(zip( results['documents'][0], results['metadatas'][0], results['distances'][0] )): relevance = 1 - distance print(f"\n--- Result {i+1} ---") print(f"Source: {metadata['source']}") print(f"Relevance: {relevance:.2f}") print(f"Excerpt: {doc[:300]}...") print("-" * 50)interactive_search()Lets add the ability to filter our search results by metadata:def filtered_search(query, filter_source=None, n_results=5): """ Search with optional filtering by source. Args: query (str): The search query filter_source (str): Optional source to filter by n_results (int): Number of results to return Returns: dict: Search results """ where_clause = {"source": filter_source} if filter_source else None results = collection.query( query_texts=[query], n_results=n_results, where=where_clause ) return resultsunique_sources = list(set(chunk_sources))print(f"Available sources for filtering: {len(unique_sources)}")print(unique_sources[:5]) if len(unique_sources) > 0: filter_source = unique_sources[0] query = "main concepts and principles" print(f"\nFiltered search for '{query}' in source '{filter_source}':") results = filtered_search(query, filter_source=filter_source) for i, doc in enumerate(results['documents'][0]): print(f"\nResult {i+1}:") print(f"{doc[:200]}...") In conclusion, we demonstrate how to build a semantic document search engine using Hugging Face embedding models and ChromaDB. The system retrieves documents based on meaning rather than just keywords by transforming text into vector representations. The implementation processes Wikipedia articles chunks them for granularity, embeds them using sentence transformers, and stores them in a vector database for efficient retrieval. The final product features interactive searching, metadata filtering, and relevance ranking. Here is the Colab Notebook. • Score a Metallic PS5 DualSense Controller for the Lowest Price Ever, But Not From Where You Might Think
    www.ign.com
Lenovo has dropped the price of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to slightly lower than what we saw on Black Friday. Right now you can choose Sterling Silver, Volcanic Red, or Cobalt Blue for only $54 plus free shipping after you apply coupon code "PLAY5" in cart. Lenovo might not be the first site you'd think of for great deals on PlayStation controllers, but surprisingly, no one can match their pricing. This might be your last chance to get a DualSense controller at this price for quite a while, at least until Sony's PlayStation Days of Play Sale that will probably happen sometime in late May.Sony PS5 DualSense Controller for $54Sterling SilverSony PS5 DualSense ControllerVolcanic RedSony PS5 DualSense ControllerCobalt BlueSony PS5 DualSense ControllerThe original PS5 DualSense controller is decked out in the same white color scheme as the console itself and retails for $69.99. Since then, Sony has consistently released more and more colors, some of them more striking than others. In late 2023, Sony launched the Deep Earth collection, "a new metallic colorway for PS5 accessories" with aptly sounding names like Sterling Silver, Volcanic Red, and Cobalt Blue. These controllers retailed for $79.99 and were (and still are) one of the more striking color schemes. We rarely see these on sale compared to the other colors.Color aside, the Dualsense is oft regarded as the best PS5 controller under $100. It also makes for an excellent controller for your PC. The DualSense is modeled after the tried and true design and layout of previous PlayStation controllers, but it also packs in modern features such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone and speaker, integrated touchpad, internal gyroscope and accelerometer for motion sensing, and USB Type-C charging. Why Should You Trust IGN's Deals Team?IGN's deals team has a combined 30+ years of experience finding the best discounts in gaming, tech, and just about every other category. • Split Fiction Players Earn Trip to See Hazelight's Next Game After Beating Hidden 'Laser Hell' Level
    www.ign.com
Split Fiction players have stumbled upon a secret level that fans have dubbed Laser Hell, and its so difficult that Hazelight is rewarding the first pair who managed to beat it.Co-op fans found yet another reason to celebrate the studios latest cooperative story after content creators E1uM4y and Sharkov shared their successful run on Chinese social media platform Bilibili. Their three-minute video showcases not only what a successful run looks like but also the hellish tasks that await inside it. Split Ficitions Laser Hell level is a gauntlet of demanding platforming challenges that see players dodging up and around a series of laser rooms, but it is doable and theres a special video for those who see it through to the end.As demonstrated in E1uM4y and Sharkovs video, reaching the end of Split Fictions hardest level rewards Mio and Zoe with a clip recorded by Hazelights own Josef Fares. After opening the video with applause, he says hes super amazed by anyone who was able to beat the level while joking that his praise isnt for you guys who are looking (at) this on YouTube.Wow. Amazing. You have to understand, this challenge, there are barely people on our team that can make it, Fares says in the video. It took us a lot of time to finish it. Im telling you; this is a crazy, crazy achievement you have done. Its a feat worth celebrating indeed, but wait, theres more! Fares promises that the first pair of players who manage to beat Split Fictions Laser Hell level and confirm their success will be flown out to Hazelight in Sweden for an early look at the studios next game along with a few other surprises. Its a promise that the director personally followed up on and confirmed in a post on X/Twitter.If you and a friend (for some reason) feel like taking a shot at Laser Hell yourselves, YouTuber ItzBytez uploaded a solid look at the whole level from front to back, including the puzzle that needs to be solved to even access it. All you need to do is input a binary code listed under a Skotos label at the location shown, have your partner stand beside you, and youll be taken down to a room where youll surely spend countless attempts trying to see Fares video in person. As for what exactly Hazelight will be showing E1uM4y and Sharkov, those details remain a mystery. Fares recently shared that the studio has been working on its next project for around a month but declined to spill much in terms of its story, name, or release plans. We do know, at least, that the Hazelight team is very excited about it.PlaySplit Fiction launched earlier this month for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S and quickly became yet another co-op success for the studio. After securing 1 million sales in just 48 hours, Mio and Zoes story pulled a total of 2 million in just one week. Weve yet to hear any more information about sales stats, but it sounds like Hazelight is very happy with how Split Fiction has performed so far.Michael Cripe is a freelance contributor with IGN. • The Most Unexplainable User-Submitted UFO Videos of 2024
    www.denofgeek.com
A black triangle floating over Bolton, England, a metallic orb cruising over Sarasota, Florida, and a bunch of luminescent orbs that create a weird blob over Danville, Illinois. These are just a few of the interesting videos submitted by witnesses as UFOs in 2024 that I am at a loss to explain. There was a lot of news about UFOs in 2024, but were there any actual UFOs spotted? And who even collects and looks at UFO reports? I do, with my colleagues at Enigma Labs. I have been writing about sci-fi, science, and UFOs for years for Den of Geek, but over the last few years I have also been a consultant for Enigma Labs, a company that has created an app to collect UFO reports and to coalesce a community to talk about the sightings to kind of crowd source the analysis.Recently, I came up with a top five list for the best UFO videos submitted to Enigma from 2024 and here are the best 5.5. Enigma #303251Location: Bolton, EnglandDate/Time: 2024 November 14 5:05:00 PM GMTLink to report and video: https://enigmalabs.io/sighting/303251Coming in at number 5 is this weird video from Bolton, England. When analyzing these videos, we want to look for anything mundane the object could be, such as birds, balloons, SpaceX rockets, stars, planets, or airplanes to name a few. When we cant match it up to something we know, it is an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) or the more scientifically posh, Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The key word being unidentified. Congress defines UAP as something not immediately identifiable. It doesnt mean it is aliens, it just means we are not sure what it is. It also means a UAP to one person may be easily explainable to another. You may be able to easily identify some of the videos in this article. If that is the case, let us know.In this report, the witness says, there were thee black objects slowly moving, the last one seemed to be triangular with a dim light in [the] middle. He says he tried to capture the third black object but it suddenly disappeared. In the video, it is dusk, and the object appears very dark against the clouds. There were two videos submitted, both of a dark object moving very high among the clouds. The objects do not move notably fast, so it is possible they are balloons floating in the wind, but they certainly look odd. It is even more odd that there were three and one disappeared.4. Enigma #295340Location: Sarasota, FloridaDate/Time: 2024 July 1 11:55:40 AM EDTLink to report and video: https://enigmalabs.io/sighting/295340Fortunately, this is a daytime sighting. Random lights at night are easy to mistake for something weird, but daytime objects can be seen better, so hard-to-explain videos captured during the day are more rare. In this case, the objects seem to be a clear round, metallic orb. It also could be a balloon, but it is moving very quickly. The palm trees do not seem to be blown by strong winds, which is what would carry a balloon so quickly through the sky. It also looks like it is made of metal.Something made out of metal appeared out of nowhere, the witness stated in the report. And disappeared just as quick. What makes this metallic orb sighting even more interesting is that the Pentagons All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) has also had cases of metallic orbs they cannot explain.Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox!3. Enigma #288257Location: Grays Harbor, Hoquiam, WashingtonDate/Time: 2024 February 5 10:32:00 PM PSTLink to report and video: https://enigmalabs.io/sighting/288257This is another nighttime video, but the object is moving strangely enough to be considered weird. It has been suggested this odd light could be the result of a cobweb flapping in the wind near the camera reflecting a light. However, no cobwebs are visible. It is also a stormy night, so this could be ball lightning. Ball lightning has not been confirmed to exist, but many witnesses have reported balls of light during thunderstorms that appear, meander around for a few seconds then disappear. Perhaps videos like this can help the scientific community on research such as ball lightning demonstrating that the search for UFOs can aid the scientific community make new discoveries.2. Enigma #299139Location: Danville, IllinoisDate/Time: 2024 September 10 3:49:00 PM CDTLink to report and video: https://enigmalabs.io/sighting/299139This is another night time video, but again the weirdness is readily apparent.Me and my wife were sitting on the porch, states the witness. And my wife saw a bright light in the sky. I then looked over and saw it to [sic].The witness said they thought it was a bright star, but then it began to multiply. In the full video it continues to multiply creating a larger and larger glob of luminescent orbs.1. Enigma #308042Location: Belle River, Ontario, CanadaDate/Time: 2024 August 24 8:24:00 PM EDTLink to report and video: https://enigmalabs.io/sighting/308042The number one video of the year has to be a daytime video, and this one delivers. It was captured on the evening of August 24, 2024 in Belle River, Ontario, Canada. In the video, you can hear the witnesses are a young woman, her father, and their dog. The object itself is very strange. In the report, the witness states he was sitting in the backyard with wife and daughter and my daughter spotted the UAP just east of our location. He continued, I told her to get out her phone and video it which she did.The description is brief, so we dont know what caught their attention first. At the beginning of the video, the object is very bright, especially for how bright it is outside. Most things flying around go in a straight line, and most lights in the sky maintain a consistent brightness until they either turn on or turn off. This object speeds up, slows down, stops, dims, disappears, re-appears, and when it disappears, there is no visible object still there. All of this is odd behavior and not typical for things flying around in the sky. That is why this video, from Canada of all places, is the top Enigma UFO (UAP) video of the year.Watch the entire Top 10 UFO Videos here. This was the first full year of collecting reports for Enigma and the reports are coming in more quickly as time goes on. We are receiving hundreds a week. You can view all of the videos posted on the Enigma app for free, which is coming to Android very soon. Let us know if you find some reports that are even better than these.

  • 4 British Interior Design Trends Youre Going to Be Seeing Everywhere in 2025
    www.housebeautiful.com
British design has long been something weve happily embraced statesidetheres something so warm and welcoming about the stylish yet cozy spaces that UK-based designers have a knack for creating. London Design Week introduced us to an array of British design trends that will continue to make waves for the rest of 2025, and here, were highlighting some of our favorites, which professional designers (all of whom will be participating in Londons WOW!house Showhouse this summer) are equally excited about, too. Dont be shy about implementing any (or all!) of the below into your home in the coming months. Related StoriesNot Being Matchy-MatchyCourtesy of Design Centre Chelsea HarbourGone are the days of perfectly coordinated spaces, and designers arent opposed to this development. There is a noticeable shift towards embracing asymmetry in interiors, which allows for more creative expression and unexpected design moments, says Kelly Hoppen, founder of Kelly Hoppen Interiors. The concept of not being matchy-matchy is something that Rupert Cunningham, director at Ben Pentreath Studio, associates with the best English country house interiors. In these homes, he explains, rooms have evolved over time by a subtle process of accretion and subtraction, as successive generations leave their stamp on a space. However, he explains, the sum of the changes does not undermine the spirit of the original. Related StorySuper Layered RoomsCourtesy of Design Centre Chelsea HarbourThe more layers in a space, the better. Layering brings depth and character to any space, creating a harmonious yet dynamic environment, says Ailsa Connery, design principal and regional director of Europe for 1508 London. The classic English country look is one example of layering at its finest, shares Emma Sims-Hilditch, founder and creative director of Sims Hilditch. The more pattern, color, and mix-matched furniture, the better, she says. Im delighted that this timeless trend continues to thrive, as it allows a home to evolve organically, with each occupant contributing their own history through antiques and carefully chosen pieces. Daniel Slowik, the founder of Daniel Slowik Ltd, shares similar sentiments. Quite often there are multiple iterations as things are bought and added, he says. Its a very enjoyable, organic and collaborative process to create a beautiful room. Lighting plays a significant role in truly bringing a layered space to life, adds Hoppen. It enhances depth, brings out shape and form, and creates subtle reflections on hard surfaceswhat I call winks of highlights, she says. It is exciting to see lighting being appreciated as an integral design element rather than just a functional one.No Shortage of ColorsCourtesy of Design Centre Chelsea HarbourBritish interior design and colorful rooms go hand in handveer away from decorating solely with neutrals! Color is an essential tool in shaping atmosphere, narrative, and emotion within a space, says Brigitta Freund, the founder and creative director of Spinocchia Freund. The exact application you land on is entirely up to youperhaps that means painting your ceiling (which designers often refer to as a rooms fifth wall) a peppy hue or coating your kitchen cabinets with a rich green or navy. Pattern is also continuing to make its way into homes, particular in the form of wallpaper. There was a period not so long ago where everything was slightly more stripped back, and I think maybe its a bit of a rebellion against that, says Darren Smith, a design director at Adam Architecture. People are a little bit bored of that overly familiar, plain background. Lots of Leafy Greens and BotanicalsCourtesy of Design Centre Chelsea HarbourVerdure-inspired prints have been a fixture of classic design for centuries and are here to stay, while botanicals are continuing to make their way onto wall coverings, soft goods, and more. As Connery says, Leafy greens remain a powerful influence in design, offering soft, fresh tones that help cultivate a peaceful retreat and celebrate a deep connection to nature. Hang an antique verdure tapestry behind your bed or sofa, or accessorize with botanical-printed pillows or throws. Another way to embrace this trend is by weaving in actual greenery into the home, of courseeven in small doses. As plantsman and garden designer Alexander Hoyle says, Who doesnt love plants? We find they help soften everything and bring needed life to a spaceoffering a splash of color or interest.Follow House Beautiful on Instagram and TikTok.
