Roborock Saros 10 review: a robot vacuum evolutionMSRP$1,600.00 Score Details The Saros 10 is everything you'd want from a robot vacuum and more, thanks to an arsenal of highly automated features.ProsImpressive vacuuming and suctionDetachable mopping plateSelf-cleaning dockSlim designCustomizableConsExpensiveCable and cord detection isn't perfectTable of ContentsTable of ContentsA do-it-all robot vacuumTried-and-true navigationWhat about the Saros 10R?VerdictThe Roborock Saros 10 is an evolution of Roborocks best robot vacuums, offering heaps of suction, tangle-free brushes, a self-cleaning docking station, and more customization options than youd ever imagine. Its a premium product with a premium price tag and if youre seeking one of the best robot vacuum and mop combos money can buy, its an easy recommendation.Recommended VideosRoborock launched the Saros 10 and Saros 10R around the same time, and along with similar names, they offer many of the same features. In fact, our in-depth comparison found them equally matched at most tasks, and you cant go wrong choosing either model. However, the Saros 10 uses an older navigation system than the Saros 10R meaning its a tried-and-true solution bound to appeal to long-time Roborock customers.RelatedWhen that system is coupled with 22,000 Pa of suction, a premium dock, a slim new robot design, and a detachable mopping plate, you end up with one of our favorite robot vacuum and mop combos. The Saros 10 is absolutely incredible, and most shoppers will find it to be a welcome addition to their smart home.Jon Bitner / Digital TrendsRobot vacuums priced at over $1,000 are built to be highly autonomous. Thats doubly true for the $1,600 Saros 10, which can run for weeks without any manual input. After running through the quick installation and mapping process, you can program an automated cleaning schedule. For example, you can schedule it to run every day while youre away at work, allowing you to come home to floors that have been thoroughly vacuumed and mopped. The onboard AI does an excellent job of determining the settings needed to best clean your home, but youll find a wealth of customization options if youre interested in tinkering with its settings (including suction levels, mopping wetness, and restricted zones). The Saros 10 cleans better than most other robot vacuums weve tested, thanks to a staggering 22,000 Pa of suction which is more than nearly all competitors, including its sibling, the Saros 10R. A tangle-free brush design means you wont have to worry about hair or strings clogging up its components, and a swinging side brush helps it reach tricky locations.Jon Bitner / Digital TrendsMopping is much the same, with an updated VibraRise 4.0 Mopping System capable of scrubbing out tough stains without any trouble. The big selling point of the mop, however, is that it can automatically detach when not in use. This allows the Saros 10 to leave its mop in the docking station when cleaning carpet, then return to the dock to install the mop when cleaning hard floors. Its a genius design and one thats bound to win over homeowners with plush carpets (like myself).Once a cleaning cycle is complete, the robot will head back to its dock. Here, itll automatically empty its dustbin into a larger reservoir, then clean its mopping plate with hot water and dry it with warm air. Itll also clean the docking station itself, ensuring any gunk that fell off the robot gets washed into the dirty water reservoir.Jon Bitner / Digital TrendsApartments and cozy homes will find the Saros 10 only requires input every week or so, thanks to large water reservoirs and a dustbag that lasts weeks before needing to be replaced. Larger homes might need to perform more frequent checks but regardless, its a highly automated robot vacuum that handles nearly all its tasks without needing a babysitter.RoborockWhile the Saros 10R employs the same navigation system as the upcoming Saros Z70 and its robotic arm, the Saros 10 uses an updated version of its Reactive AI system found on many of its existing products. This means youre getting a tried-and-true system thats been working successfully for several years and our testing proved it to work wonderfully during daily cleanings. From properly mapping my home and avoiding obstacles to navigating around my two wild dogs, the Saros 10 cruises around without much trouble. However, like most robot vacuums, it still has trouble with cords and cables. Specifically, it had issues identifying a white charging cable I purposefully left out for testing instead of moving around it, the vacuum plowed right over it.Thankfully, that was one of the only instances where the Saros 10 struggled. Beyond that, it never once got stuck or needed to be rescued, and it managed to reach most of the nooks and crannies scattered throughout my living space.Jon Bitner / Digital TrendsThe Saros 10 is remarkably similar to the Saros 10R. They both have premium docking stations, they both can automatically remove their mopping pads, and they both can use AI to automatically determine the right settings to best clean your home. However, there are a few key differences between the 10 and 10R.As mentioned above, the Saros 10 uses an older navigation system compared to the new StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 on the Saros 10R. This hasnt been around as long, but we found it to work just as well (and sometimes better) than that of the Saros 10.The Saros 10 offers more such at 22,000 Pa compared to 20,000 Pa of the Saros 10R. Both of those numbers are more than capable of handling daily cleaning tasks, though the extra 2,000 Pa of the Saros 10 could be useful for demanding jobs.Mopping technology is also quite different, with the Saros 10 using a large vibrating mopping plate, whereas the Saros 10R uses two spinning mopping pads. I personally prefer the spinning mopping pads for daily cleanings, but the plate on the Saros 10 certainly works well for clearing tough stains or dried material caked onto the floor. While both are great, testing found newer technology like the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omnis roller mop to be the best solution for hard floors, though it lacks the ability to detach its mop making it a poor companion for carpets.Truth be told, you cant go wrong with either Roborock product. Yes, there are some serious differences in their technology. But both are so advanced and well-designed that theyre equally capable of cleaning all types of floors. The Roborock Saros 10 is among the best robot vacuums on the market. Featuring a reliable navigation system, heaps of suction, and a slim design that can slip under furniture for improved coverage, it makes a wonderful addition to most homes. The price is a bit steep and the availability of the Saros 10R makes the shopping process a bit more convoluted than it should be but the Saros 10 will surpass the expectations of even the most discerning shopper.Editors Recommendations

Bleeping Computer said Oracle Health customers have received breach notifications that were printed on plain paper rather than official Oracle letterhead and were signed by Seema Verma, the executive vice president & GM of Oracle Health. The other report of a data breach occurred eight days ago, when an anonymous person using the handle rose87168 published a sampling of what they said were 6 million records of authentication data belonging to Oracle Cloud customers. Rose87168 told Bleeping Computer that they had acquired the data a little more than a month earlier after exploiting a vulnerability that gave access to an Oracle Cloud server.Researchers at outside security firms who have reviewed data provided by rose87168 said it appeared to be genuine. Cloudsek researchers said the firm assesses this threat with medium confidence and rates it as High in severity. In all, they said, more than 140,000 tenantsmeaning customers using Oracle Cloud serviceswere affected.Trustwaves Spider Labs, meanwhile, said the sample of LDAP credentials provided by rose87168 reveals a substantial amount of sensitive IAM data associated with a user within an Oracle Cloud multi-tenant environment. The data includes personally identifiable information (PII) and administrative role assignments, indicating potential high-value access within the enterprise system.Oracle initially denied any such breach had occurred against its cloud infrastructure, telling publications: "There has been no breach of Oracle Cloud. The published credentials are not for the Oracle Cloud. No Oracle Cloud customers experienced a breach or lost any data."On Friday, when I asked Oracle for comment, a spokesperson asked if they could provide a statement that couldnt be attributed to Oracle in any way. After I declined, the spokesperson said Oracle would have no comment. For the moment, theres a stand-off between Oracle on the one hand, and researchers and journalists on the other, over whether two serious breaches have exposed sensitive information belonging to its customers. Reporting that Oracle is notifying customers of data compromises in unofficial letterhead sent by outside attorneys is also concerning. • Google discontinues Nest Protect smoke alarm and Nest x Yale lock

Empty Nest Google discontinues Nest Protect smoke alarm and Nest x Yale lock Google continues backing away from smart home hardware. Ryan Whitwam Mar 28, 2025 3:29 pm | 22 Credit: Google Credit: Google Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreGoogle acquired Nest in 2014 for a whopping $3.4 billion but seems increasingly uninterested in making smart home hardware. The company has just announced two of its home gadgets will be discontinued, one of which is quite popular. The Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector is a common fixture in homes, but Google says it has stopped manufacturing it. The less popular Nest x Yale smart lock is also getting the ax. There are replacements coming, but Google won't be making them.Nest launched the 2nd gen Protect a year before it became part of Google. Like all smoke detectors, the Nest Protect comes with an expiration date. You're supposed to swap them out every 10 years, so some Nest users are already there. You will have to hurry if you want a new Protect. While they're in stock for the moment, Google won't manufacture any more. It's on sale for $119 on the Google Store for the time being. The Nest x Yale lock. Credit: Google The Nest x Yale lock. Credit: Google Likewise, Google is done with the Nest x Yale smart lock, which it launched in 2018 to complement the Nest Secure home security system. This device requires a Thread-enabled hub, a role the Nest Secure served quite well. Now, you need a $70 Nest Connect to control this lock remotely. If you still want to grab the Nest x Yale smart lock, it's on sale for $229 while supplies last.Smart home hangoverGoogle used to want people to use its smart home devices, but its attention has been drawn elsewhere since the AI boom began. The company hasn't released new cameras, smart speakers, doorbells, or smart displays in several years at this point, and it's starting to look like it never will again. TV streamers and thermostats are the only home tech still getting any attention from Google. For everything else, it's increasingly turning to third parties. The Nest Protect will be replaced soon by a First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide detector. This device will work with Google Home, as well as the First Alert app, and it can integrate with an existing Nest Protect network. It even looks a little like the Nest version. The feature set is similar, too, with in-app early warnings for alarms, voice alerts, and support for both wired and battery setups. It will retail for $129.99 when it launches in the coming months. The First Alert smoke detector (left) and Yale Smart Lock with Matter (right) will replace Google's hardware. Credit: Yale and First Alert The First Alert smoke detector (left) and Yale Smart Lock with Matter (right) will replace Google's hardware. Credit: Yale and First Alert As for the smart lock, Google has partnered with Yale once again. However, the Nest name is nowhere to be found. The Yale Smart Lock with Matter is launching this summer, and as the name implies, it works over the newer Matter connectivity standard but will also have Thread. It will integrate with Google Home with all the same features as the old lock. It does look a lot more like a modern Google device, even though Google's name isn't on it.This is a less severe version of Google's approach to Nest Secure. When Google got tired of supporting its lavishly expensive and underperforming security product, it bricked the hardware. In compensation, Google offered a third-party system from its new partner ADT. Google isn't doing the same with the Nest Protect or the Nest x Yale smart lock (for now), so it's safe to buy them if you don't want to wait on the outsourced hardware.Ryan WhitwamSenior Technology ReporterRyan WhitwamSenior Technology Reporter Ryan Whitwam is a senior technology reporter at Ars Technica, covering the ways Google, AI, and mobile technology continue to change the world. • Want to manage a fleet of private jets? Goldman Sachs has just the job for you.
    www.businessinsider.com
David Solomon, CEO of Goldman Sachs. Michael Kovac 2025-03-28T20:34:43Z SaveSaved Read in app This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? Goldman Sachs is searching for an associate to help with its top execs' private plane travel. The role could earn up to $160,000 a year, a job listing shows. The bank's board recently said it expects the CEO and COO to use the jets for personal travel. When most people think about jobs at Goldman Sachs, they probably think about the investment banker pulling an all-nighter on a merger or the wealth manager closing a new account. Now, the firm is going wheels up on an altogether different kind of role: Someone to help manage its fleet of private jets.According to a job posting on Goldman's website, the investment bank is looking to hire an associate to help whisk top executives, like CEO David Solomon, to business meetings and other events using the company's private aviation. The posting comes as the Wall Street bank moves up its annual headcount-cutting ritual and contemplates potential reductions to its vice president population, among other cost-saving measures codenamed Project Voyage.According to the listing, the new hire would be based in New York City and receive a base salary of between $100,000 and $160,000. Previously, the post called for a vice president whose salary would have been between $125,000 and $250,000. After BI contacted Goldman about the post, the bank modified the role to the lower-paid associate rank."We thank the team at Business Insider for using your 20th article on Goldman Sachs' corporate aircraft to help us track top talent for this role," a Goldman Sachs spokesperson said in a statement to BI.In 2019, the year after Solomon took over as the bank's CEO, Goldman purchased two private aircraft: a Gulfstream G280 and a G650ER. At the time, the bank determined that owning its jets outright would be more cost-effective than booking private flights through NetJets, a fractional ownership service, as BI has previously reported. In 2023, the firm scrapped plans to purchase a third plane amid a cost-cutting push and scrutiny over Solomon's use of the jets. Solomon had used the planes for some personal flights, including visiting his home in the Bahamas, BI's Dakin Campbell reported at the time.Earlier this month, Goldman's board said in a proxy filing that it expects its CEO and its President and COO John Waldron to use its jets for personal travel and business."The primary use of our corporate aircraft is to facilitate business," the firm said, adding: "Our CEO and COO are expected to use our corporate aircraft, including for personal travel, for security reasons, as well as to maximize the efficiency of their travel time and their availability for firm business."The new associate will be part of the corporate aviation integrated services team within the executive office, a division that encompasses units like marketing, corporate communications, and some philanthropic and public-facing programs. It's helmed by Russell Horwitz, the bank's chief of staff. So does the gig sound like one for you? Before you buckle up your seatbelt and tap the intercom for a glass of Champagne, it's important to know that this role appears to be based on the ground not in a plush leather recliner in the air, enjoying a view over the wings.According to the job post, this associate will be focused on tasks such as assuming "operations & financial oversight of the firm's executive aviation program, including business owned aircraft & fractional aircraft interest." The person will assemble reports, perform some bookkeeping activities, and develop policies and procedures relating to the aviation program. They'll also "assist with all aviation operational matters," like ensuring planes are available when execs need to hop a ride. The ideal candidate should have at least five years of experience working in a "business aviation team environment," the post added. Here are a few other attributes the bank is looking for:Be an "enthusiastic, hardworking" member of the team who is "able to work well under pressure"Top-tier communications skillsKnow how to work your magic in Microsoft Excel and creating original presentationsSo if you don't mind the logistical work and have a sense for what it takes to keep the trains (or planes) running on time then, who knows? • Studio Ghibli has few legal options to stop OpenAI from ripping off its style
    www.businessinsider.com
OpenAI introduced a new viral feature allowing people to generate images in the anime style of Studio Ghibli. OpenAI's 4o tool 2025-03-28T20:23:06Z SaveSaved Read in app This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? ChatGPT introduced a feature that lets users generate images in the style of Studio Ghibli anime.Studio Ghibli might have a tough time bringing a successful copyright lawsuit, experts say. While individual creative works get copyright protection, general styles don't.With ChatGPT's new Ghiblifying feature, OpenAI is digging into its aggressive stance on copyright law.OpenAI's 4o image generation tool, made available for paying ChatGPT users this week, allows people to transform images into the style of Studio Ghibli, the Japanese studio behind anime movies like "Spirited Away" and "The Boy and the Heron."If the anime studio brings a copyright lawsuit to stop Open AI from offering the feature which has been used to make Studio Ghibli-style images of everything from people's cats to the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers it would have a hard time winning in court, copyright lawyers say.The rules around using Studio Ghibli's movies to train OpenAI's models are not yet legally settled, and copyright laws generally allow artists to mimic a visual style, they say.The Ghibli-styleOpenAI CEO Sam Altman on X, is a step forward from ChatGPT's previous image generation features.Earlier versions of ChatGPT, like the one using the DALL-E 3 engine, which is still available in the free version, make it difficult to create images in the style of living artists. That safeguard is less about copyright protection than about public optics, Matthew Sag, an Emory University law professor studying copyright law and artificial intelligence, told Business Insider."OpenAI took a pretty sensible decision to say, 'We are going to stop producing images in the style of living people,'" Sag said. "Not because it's copyright infringement, but because people don't like that. Individuals get very understandably viscerally upset by that."On X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reacted to the viral Ghiblification by saying the company "put a lot of thought into the initial examples" of its new technology. He wrote the new image-generation features had become so popular that "our GPUs are melting" and he'd impose rate limits while trying to make it more efficient.Studio Ghibli could bring two kinds of copyright cases against OpenAIThe copyright disputes surrounding ChatGPT and generative artificial intelligence remain hotly disputed in the courts.Creators have brought dozens of lawsuits across the country against OpenAI and other generative AI companies. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Manhattan allowed the bulk of one of the highest-profile lawsuits from The New York Times against OpenAI and Microsoft to move forward. Some companies, including Business Insider parent Axel Springer, have struck deals with generative AI companies to allow them to train on their works. The legal arguments against generative AI companies can be boiled down into two points. One is the "input" case that OpenAI would be violating Studio Ghibli's rights if it were training its large language models on the production company's movies and TV shows. The other is the "output" case OpenAI is creating works that resemble Studio Ghibli's copyrighted products. The actual images circulating on social media demonstrate why copyright laws exist in the first place. Studio Ghibli could argue that the wide proliferation of Ghibli-style images even if it's as innocuous as people making their children look like they might stumble through a portal into the Spirit World damages its brand.Or the company may not want the internet to be filled with Ghiblified photos of the 9/11 terror attacks, or Jeffrey Epstein hanging out with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, or the JFK assassination all of which have gone viral on X.The White House even got in on the action, posting a Ghibli-style image of ICE arresting a sobbing woman who was accused of selling fentanyl while living in the US illegally. An OpenAI spokesperson previously told Business Insider that its policies allow the generation of images in "broader studio styles" but not "the style of a living artist." But Kristelia Garca, an intellectual property law professor at Georgetown University Law, said the distinction between copying the work of Studio Ghibli or cofounder Hayao Miyazaki was irrelevant. The studio, and possibly individual artists working for it, could bring a copyright claim, Garca said."You're still contravening some people who just work the studio," Garca said. "So I don't know. I find that argument to be a little perplexing."Representatives for Studio Ghibli and its American distribution company, Gkids, didn't immediately respond to requests for comment on whether either would sue OpenAI over the feature.Representatives for OpenAI didn't immediately respond to a request for comment for this story. The "input" case remains unsettled in copyright law. And while Japan, where Studio Ghibli is based, has permissive copyright laws for LLM training, the company could still sue in the United States. But for such an argument to succeed, Studio Ghibli would need to prove that OpenAI's models were actually trained on the studio's works, said Garca. That would likely require a discovery process in the early stages of a lawsuit. A BI reporter used OpenAI's tool to generate a Ghibli-style image of Sam Altman with OpenAI's logo Effie Webb/OpenAI's 4o tool Studio Ghibli would also have a tougher time prevailing in court if it turned out ChatGPT's LLM was trained on fanart, which has been popular on the internet for decades, Garca said. The anime studio would have an even harder time making an "output" argument in court, Christa Laser, an intellectual property law professor at Cleveland State University, said.In general, while individual works like Studio Ghibli's specific movies or scenes or characters are protected by copyright, artistic style is not."If you just evoke the vibe of somebody else's creative work, it generally doesn't violate their copyright," Laser said.Sag said that, as a visual style, anime is "a cornerstone of AI image generation.""You see the distinctive visual language of anime clean lines, vivid expressions, stylized forms, big eyes, et cetera all over generative AI images," he said.Recommended video

  • People Making AI Studio Ghibli Images Are Now Producing Fake Legal Letters to Go With Their Fake Art
    gizmodo.com
The trend of using Open AIs ChatGPT to create AI images in the distinctive style of Studio Ghibli probably should have ceased the moment the official White House X account hopped aboard. But theres a new wrinkle in the story today, as one of the trends proponents posted a cease and desist notice they claimed to have received from Studio Ghibli representativeswhich fellow social media users immediately called out as being as fake as the art that inspired it. Along with the (fake) letter, X user teej used the platform to defend what theyd done, writing in part: AI creators deserve protection, not punishment. Expression is sacred. Imagination is not illegal. If I have to be a martyr to prove that, so be it. Its hard not to chuckle at this response to, lets see, typing a prompt into a program so that it can create an AI image blatantly ripping off hours of hard work and creativity from actual human artists, including the great Hayao Miyazaki and his Ghibli team. At this point, we can go ahead and add another fake to the growing pile: the persecution complex being felt by AI creators who realize now they did something that made a lot of people justifiably annoyed. Take responsibility for ones own actions? This is 2025! We dont do that anymore! Better point the finger at someone else, even if that other person is crafted from thin air! While Studio Ghibli has yet to make a public statement about OpenAI cannibalizing its works, its hard not to read into remarks from a Gkids representative regarding the box-office success currently being enjoyed by Princess Mononoke, which hit IMAX theaters in a 4K restoration this week in honor of its 40th anniversary. In a time when technology tries to replicate humanity, we are thrilled that audiences value a theatrical experience that respects and celebrates Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghiblis masterpiece in all its cinematic hand-drawn glory, Chance Huskey, VP of distribution for Gkids, said in a statement quoted in Variety. Screenings are still ongoing and you can find out details here. Want more io9 news?
