• Hero Forge Expands Into Custom Dice For Dungeons And Dragons Players

HeroForge's custom dice maker program can incorporate elements of your favorite D&D character into a ... More unique set of dice.HeroForgePeople enjoy spending money on their hobbies by buying accessories that personalize their tools or enhance their performance. Companies like Hero Forge allow players to customize their Dungeons and Dragons experience. Players can express their love for their characters by building a miniature that accurately represents what they look like rather than finding a store bought mini to be close enough.Hero Forge has returned to crowdfunding to expand its offerings by creating custom dice for customers. Players can match their dice with their characters action or with their favorite spells and more. HeroForge sent along some sample products to evaluate as part of this article.Hero Forge Custom MiniaturesHero Forge allows tabletop RPG players to build miniatures that look like the characters theyve made for their favorite RPG. The website offers dozens of selections for arms, head, feet, faces, gear, pets and more. It can be a lot of fun to just mess around with the character creator in the browser to help visualize a character. Many fans are fine to tinker with the character creator and perhaps save a screenshot to help other players see their character. These fans can also order a custom miniature to be sent to their home in a variety of styles. Fans with 3d printers can also purchase an STL file should they want to make their own on their own time.Hero Forge sent two miniatures in two sizes. The regular size minis were battle ready to use with standard mini setups, while the color statuette was a larger example that seems perfect for display on a desk or the shelf that holds D&D books. The larger piece seems like it would be excellent as a gift to a player who already has the books.Play Puzzles & Games on ForbesI appreciate that the website has non-fantasy options for characters. There are some great cyberpunk looks mixed in with the elves and dragons for fans of role playing games set in the modern day or galaxies far, far away. New options arrive on a regular schedule so checking back often can open up new character ideas.Hero Forge Custom DiceOne of the great rites of passage to becoming a D&D player is selecting the dice the new player will use in their game. Some folks go farther than this by having distinct sets for specific characters or even individual spell effects. Hero Forge will soon offer players a chance to get even more unique with dice that reflect a players personality. The main focus of the custom dice features an element of the character around which the die is created. This could be something like a paladins shield or a wizards fireball. A bust of the character could also be included inside the die.One aspect of the dice I got that concerned me was the numbers being printed rather than etched. I know that these dice are more for display than heavy use, but as an owner of the original Ghostbusters RPG I know the sadness of watching the numbers of a favorite set wear off into oblivion. I hope that as the technology grows that they offer this option on their custom dice.Much like the minis Hero Forge sent, the dice came in two sizes. Each die included a bust of the matching character and had a satisfying weight to them. Hero Forge claims the dice are balanced and, while I didnt run exhaustive testing outside of a few rolls, some folks have passed these dice with a clean bill of health.Hero Forge custom dice are on Kickstarter through April 5th, 2025. The program hopes to launch in Q3 of 2025 for the general public.

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Plans: No Ultra 2 But Classic Returns In 2025?
    www.forbes.com
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 ClassicSamsungSome key details about the as yet unannounced Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series have leaked out thanks to a recent tester firmware release. The latest Samsung firmware release makes reference to model numbers that tally up with expected future Galaxy Watch 8 variants, as posted by theonecid on X.It looks like well be seeing three Bluetooth/Wi-Fi only watches, and three with LTE.At present Samsungs line-up consists of 40mm and 44mm diameter Galaxy Watch 7 wearables, with and without 4G/LTE, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It has LTE as standard and only comes as a 47mm design. While the model numbers dont tell us a whole load of information, they do suggest whatever higher-end watch Samsung releases this year, it may come in both Wi-Fi only and 4G versions. These are the model names:SM-L320SM-L330SM-L500SM-L325USM-L335USM-L505UIs The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Coming? It seems relatively safe to assume the 300-series watches will make up the standard Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 models, while the 500-series ones are the higher-end alternatives. It doesnt look like this is a new Galaxy Watch Ultra, though, as the current model bears the name L705.This does mean we may see a return of the, in some circles, beloved Galaxy Watch Classic range. The current Galaxy Watch Ultra was the first of its line for Samsung. In the previous generation, the wearables line was split into the standard Galaxy Watch 6 and the Watch 6 Classic. It had a somewhat classier design than the base model, but didnt push for additional hardcore features in the way the Watch Ultra does. One element thats not yet clear: was the Galaxy Watch Ultra actually a big success? Samsung has not revealed sales figures, or intimated how well it sold compared to the standard watch. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra has a couple of clear routes for future progress, though. First up, the current watch does not have a depth gauge for drivers, seen in the Apple Watch Ultra, and many fans want to see a return of the rotating crown. This used to be a signature of the Galaxy Watch Classic range. So where is the Watch Ultra? It may simply be this is not a range Samsung updates every year. Apple has already normalized this, by not releasing a new Apple Watch Ultra in 2024.The Galaxy Watch 8 range may also be used as the vehicle for another innovation Samsung talked about in January, non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. Samsung announced its progress in this field in January, considered a major long-term goal for wearables.Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Watch 8 family later this year, potentially in July.

  • Microsoft is replacing the Blue Screen of Death in Windows 11
    www.techspot.com
In a nutshell: Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death may soon go the way of the dodo. The feared error screen, which has existed in some form or fashion since the dawn of Windows, is being replaced in the latest preview build with a more streamlined version that Microsoft claims better aligns with the design principles of Windows 11. Microsoft in a recent Windows Insider blog said the updated user interface additionally supports their goal of getting users back to productivity as fast as possible. The update is part of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3653 (KB5053658) and is rolling out now to Insiders on Windows 11 version 24H2 and higher in the beta, dev, and canary channels. Once updated, these users will see the traditional error message UI replaced with a green screen that resembles a Windows update dialog.Microsoft is previewing a new UI for what it calls "unexpected restarts"The simplified UI preserves the technical details of the error including the stop code and what specifically triggered the failure, in far fewer words than what you might remember from earlier versions like those in Windows 98 or XP. Also missing is the sad emoji face and the QR code found on later variants. This is not the first we have heard of an updated UI for the error message, and it may not be the update's final form. According to Windows Latest, the new BSOD will be black instead of blue or green. Perhaps the green variant Microsoft showed off in its blog post is just a placeholder for Insiders? // Related StoriesAs a Windows user and avid overclocker that did most of my tinkering in the 2000s, BSODs were a common occurrence. They were often a sign that I had pushed a setting too far although occasionally, they'd signal a software or hardware incompatibility. I eventually moved on from overclocking and developed an appreciation for a rock-solid, stable system. Knock on wood, but it's been years since I last saw a BSOD.

Expert reviews and ratings 100 With blisteringly fast paced combat and visceral gameplay, The First Berserker: Khazan is a masterclass in the hardcore action RPG genre. Unrelenting bosses, vivid and varied environments, and fair-but-challenging foes come together with engaging mechanics to create an unforgettable journey of vengeance. By gamingtrend.com on March 31, 2025 80 Drawing from the best in the genre, The First Berserker: Khazan turned out to be a satisfying Soulslike action-RPG. By siliconera.com on March 31, 2025 80 The First Berserker: Khazan blends strong offensive and defensive combat systems with anime flair in a brutal and engrossing action-RPG. By PC Mag on March 31, 2025 80 Despite a forgettable story and some constricted level design, The First Berserker: Khazan's excellent combat is more than enough to cover for these missteps. It's challenging, engaging, and consistently satisfying, complemented by a cavalcade of dynamic enemies and a versatile progression system that extends beyond the typical XP-based approach. By GameSpot on March 31, 2025 90 The First Berserker: Khazan is a masterclass in action combat, delivering thrilling boss fights, diverse level design, and tight mechanics that rival the genres best. While the narrative and side characters falter in depth, the fluid progression, customizable skill trees, and satisfying difficulty curve make this a standout soul-like experienceeven for players unfamiliar with the Dungeon Fighter Online universe. By noisypixel.net on March 31, 2025 100 The First Berserker: Khazan is a perfect game that achieves everything it sets out to. While I do wish for more weapon types and an open-world, not having these doesn't take away from the core experience at hand, which is nothing short of perfection. By screenrant.com on March 31, 2025 80 Despite somewhat samey missions and a flat protagonist, Khazan's combat and boss design are some of the best I've seen in a soulslike. By PC Gamer on March 24, 2025 80 Khazan is a Souls-like at its heart, with an emphasis on ruthless aggression. The game wants you to be aggro, rushing in and dodging damage, slicing through enemies in a deluge of blood splurts. With such violence comes shameless joy, and the game is quick to thrust you into the action ballet that has enraptured thousands of Souls-Like fiends around the world. Me included: I'm a lost cause. By vg247.com on March 24, 2025 88 Derivative though it most certainly is, The First Berserker: Khazan is still incredibly fun to play because combat is so satisfying. The gothic anime visuals look great, and the game manages to sneak a few new and smart mechanics into the formula. The First Berserker: Khazan may be a familiar experience, but its probably a must-play for fans of hardcore action games and Soulslikes. By cogconnected.com on March 24, 2025 A hack 'n' slash soulslike with an uninspiring plot and tedious level design but its satisfying combat and tough boss fights might make it worth trying. • Chrome code confirms Gemini is coming to simplify your browsing
    www.digitaltrends.com
Thanks to newly discovered code, Googles plans to add Gemini to Chromes sidebar are now more concrete, as spotted by Windows Latest. The feature mirrors Microsoft Edges Copilot. We previously reported that Google was testing the feature in the latest Chrome Canary build. Now, a Chromium post mentioning its codename Glic confirms the integration. If everything goes as planned, users could resize and detach Gemini from Chrome, turning it into a standalone sidebar. Google Chrome engineer Keren Zhu referred to the Gemini sidebar as a widget, maybe because it floats when you click Chromes menu button.Recommended VideosIts still unclear whether the translucent widgets will be within or outside Chromes bounds. Still, there is a good chance they are inside the browser since Google says thats a requirement for the adjustable window, and the corners may be rounded in Windows 11. Google notes, This change lifts the restriction that disallows making WS_POPUP window resizable (WS_POPUP is used by glic window). The bypass is temporarily limited to glic to prevent regression in other widgets. This historically has caused visual artifacts in bookmark editor, but it does not seem to happen anymore.Currently, three caveats are low priorities: a window does not have a shadow if it is not resizable, client area bounds change when toggling between resizable and non-resizable, and the top border of the Glic windows lacks a resizable handle. To make things even easier, you can use a keyboard shortcut to customize directly from the browsers settings. We dont know when itll become available to all Chrome users, but hopefully, it wont be long.Editors Recommendations

  • France fines Apple 150M for excessive pop-ups that let users reject tracking
    arstechnica.com
Apple's App Tracking Transparency France fines Apple 150M for excessive pop-ups that let users reject tracking Requiring "double consent" for user tracking is too much, French agency says. Jon Brodkin Mar 31, 2025 1:25 pm | 28 An iPhone 15 Pro and a MacBook Pro in 2023. Credit: Getty Images | dontree_m An iPhone 15 Pro and a MacBook Pro in 2023. Credit: Getty Images | dontree_m Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreFrance's competition regulator fined Apple 150 million, saying the iPhone maker went overboard in its implementation of pop-up messages that let users consent to or reject tracking that third-party applications use for targeted advertising. The App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework used by Apple on iPhones and iPads since 2021 makes the use of third-party applications too complex and hurts small companies that rely on advertising revenue, said a press release today by the Autorit de la concurrence (Competition Authority). The system harms "smaller publishers in particular since, unlike the main vertically integrated platforms, they depend to a large extent on third-party data collection to finance their business," the agency said.User consent obtained via the ATA framework "authorizes the application in question to collect user data for targeted advertising purposes," the agency said. "If consent is given, the application can access the Identifier for Advertisers ('IDFA'), the identifier by which each device can be tracked through its use of third-party applications and sites." The French investigation was triggered by a complaint lodged by advertising industry associations. The intent of ATT "is not problematic in terms of the likely benefits for users as regards privacy protection," but "how the framework is implemented is abusive within the meaning of competition law," the agency said. Apple's "implementation methods artificially complicate the use of third-party applications and distort the neutrality of the framework to the detriment of small publishers financed by advertising," it said.Third-party publishers "cannot rely on the ATT framework to comply with their legal obligations," so they "must continue to use their own consent collection solution," the French agency said. "The result is that multiple consent pop-ups are displayed, making the use of third-party applications in the iOS environment excessively complex."A typical ATT pop-up asks a user whether to allow an app "to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites," and says that "your data will be used to deliver personalized ads to you."Agency: Double consent too cumbersomeThe agency said there is an "asymmetry" in which user consent for Apple's own data collection is obtained with a single pop-up, but other publishers are "required to obtain double consent from users for tracking on third-party sites and applications." The press release notes that "while advertising tracking only needs to be refused once, the user must always confirm their consent a second time."The system was said to be less harmful for big companies like Meta and Google and "particularly harmful for smaller publishers that do not enjoy alternative targeting possibilities, in particular in the absence of sufficient proprietary data." Although France's focus is on how ATT affects smaller companies, Apple's privacy system has also been criticized by Facebook. The 150 million fine won't make much of a dent in Apple's revenue, but Apple will apparently have to make some changes to comply with the French order. The agency's press release said the problem "could be avoided by marginal modifications to the ATT framework."Benoit Coeure, the head of France's competition authority, "told reporters the regulator had not spelled out how Apple should change its app, but that it was up to the company to make sure it now complied with the ruling," according to Reuters. "The compliance process could take some time, he added, because Apple was waiting for rulings on regulators in Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania who are also investigating the ATT tool."Apple said in a statement that the ATT "prompt is consistent for all developers, including Apple, and we have received strong support for this feature from consumers, privacy advocates, and data protection authorities around the world. While we are disappointed with today's decision, the French Competition Authority (FCA) has not required any specific changes to ATT."Jon BrodkinSenior IT ReporterJon BrodkinSenior IT Reporter Jon is a Senior IT Reporter for Ars Technica. • Theres a new benchmark in town for measuring performance on Windows 95 PCs
    arstechnica.com
shake the cobwebs out Theres a new benchmark in town for measuring performance on Windows 95 PCs Did you want to see how fast your ancient computer was? Because now you can! Andrew Cunningham Mar 31, 2025 1:15 pm | 16 Credit: Microsoft Credit: Microsoft Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreIf you're still using a computer you bought during the Clinton administration, interesting news: Crystal Dew World, developers of apps like CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark, have released an update to their CrystalMark Retro benchmark (as spotted by Tom's Hardware). The most interesting aspect of the update for retro computing enthusiasts is expanded operating system support: the app will now run on Windows 95, Windows 98, and old versions of Windows NT like 3.51 and 4.0. The previous version of the app only went as far back as Windows XP.The app spits out benchmarking scores for five things: single-core CPU performance, multi-core CPU performance, 2D graphics performance using GDI, 3D graphics performance using OpenGL, and disk speed (broken into four sub-benchmarks for sequential and random read and write performance). The app will also run on current systems, including 64-bit x86 and Arm-based PCs, and the results database is dominated by those modern systems. But searching by operating system allows you to zero in on those retro results, including nine (as of this writing) for Windows 95, six for Windows 98, and five for Windows NT 3.51. CrystalMark Retro running on a modern system inside a Windows 95 virtual machine. Credit: Crystal Dew World Benchmarks are often used to test brand-new components, so people can see how much faster their new PC is than their old one, or just for bragging rights. So why should retro computing enthusiasts care that they've got a new benchmarking app? As we've written, benchmarks are also a good way to make sure a PC is performing as expected, something that could be particularly useful for people building a PC out of heavily used hand-me-down parts. Vintage benchmarks also don't have the benefit of an online results database for easy comparisons to other people'ssystems.PCs running these operating systems are obviously far past their sell-by dates, but vibrant retro computing communities exist all over the Internet for virtually every era of MS-DOS and Windows. "New" systems like the Pocket386 and Book 8088 laptops also point to ongoing interest in '80s- and '90s-era PCs.If you're bringing an old Windows 95 or Windows 98 PC back online so you can run some benchmarks, remember to grab all the latest ancient updates for your operating system using something like the Windows Update Restored project. Or, better yet, please try to keep it from accessing the Internet directly, since it's not particularly safe and you won't be able to do much with period-accurate browsers and apps.Andrew CunninghamSenior Technology ReporterAndrew CunninghamSenior Technology Reporter Andrew is a Senior Technology Reporter at Ars Technica, with a focus on consumer tech including computer hardware and in-depth reviews of operating systems like Windows and macOS. Tesla sent sales staff a video on the eve of mass protests that encouraged workers to "stay vigilant."Tesla hasn't directly referenced the protests outside of Elon Musk's comments during interviews and a surprise all-hands meeting.Since early February, Tesla has faced vandalism of its vehicles and protests at its showrooms.Tesla salesworkers have been waiting for guidance from corporate leaders about the vandalism and demonstrations outside showrooms. On the eve of more than 200 planned protests, they received a video featuring a senior executive encouraging them to "stay vigilant" amid a "dynamic and fast-paced environment."The video, a copy of which was seen by Business Insider, was described as an end-of-quarter reflection. It featured smiling workers, promotional footage of Optimus and the Robotaxi, and a dog in the front seat of a vehicle. In it, Troy Jones, a vice president of North American sales and service, described salesworkers as the "heart of the company." He encouraged workers to look out for each other and "stay vigilant.""If you notice something that doesn't seem right, don't hesitate to speak up," Jones said. "Your safety is the top priority. We are used to being in the spotlight, and in this dynamic and fast-paced environment, thank you for remaining passionate about our customers and working together as a team.""Your energy, efforts, and determination sets the pace for the rest of the company," Jones said. "We have an incredible opportunity ahead of us. Every conversation, every relationship is our opportunity to share our industry leading product with the world.""This is just the beginning, and I'm so excited about the future," he said.Earlier this month, the company sent out a separate end-of-quarter video featuring Jones. It did not mention the protests.Seven salesworkers, who occupy some of Tesla's most public-facing roles, told BI the company recently provided employees with general safety guidelines that did not directly address the protests. One worker called Jones' most recent video "disappointing.""It felt a little trivial," the worker said. "Like that's it. Really?"A spokesperson for Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment.A wave of protests and vandalismThe video was shared with American sales staff on Friday evening, less than 24 hours before a global day of action organized by the activist group Tesla Takedown. Over 200 protests were planned across the US.Since early February, there have been a rash of non-violent demonstrations and attacks against Tesla property involving Molotov cocktails, arson, and gunshots. The FBI recently launched a joint task force in response to the vandalism, and Attorney General Pam Bondi has labeled the incidents "domestic terrorism."Tesla CEO Elon Musk has addressed the public vitriol during press appearances and a surprise all-hands meeting on March 20, comparing the backlash to "Armageddon" and encouraging employees to "hang on to your stock." Aside from that, the carmaker has not sent out internal, company-wide guidance that directly addressed the incidents, employees told Business Insider. In March, the company sent memos about how to deal with law enforcement and encouraged staff to review safety guidelines and contact Tesla security for issues involving vandalism or trespassing. On March 20, Tesla told salesworkers it would begin activating Sentry Mode which allows a vehicle's sensors and cameras to record activity, even when it's not in use on vehicles at the sales centers. Workers were notified of the change several hours after Musk posted about the update on X.Salespeople look to local guidanceSome salesworkers had been relying on guidance at the store level. They told BI they were told by store managers to avoid engaging with protesters and to only take action if the protesters did something illegal."The general guidance seems to be to exit those conversations as quickly as possible because it won't move business forward," one salesworker said.Five workers said they'd dealt with protesters at their facility, and six said they'd had to deal with an uptick in prank calls and disgruntled customers.Four said they felt they've been left mostly in the dark. One said that they were left feeling uncertain about how to interact with both customers and protesters at their sales center, which has seen multiple protests in recent weeks. The carmaker also had not referenced the backlash in regular internal communication with its sales teams.Newsletters, which are sent to salesworkers twice a week, are often used to set up uniform practices across the sales centers and provide policy updates. Since the protests began, none have directly acknowledged the incidents. The newsletters have focused on reminders around federal tax credits, and talking points for Tesla's Cybertruck recall and new Model Y.The carmaker also holds bi-monthly sales calls with several hundred workers, including store managers and director-level employees. Over the past two months, there was no mention of the protests in the sales calls, one worker told BI. The calls were focused on building relationships with customers and preparing for the end of quarter.Tesla also sends salesworkers talking points on anything from how to address questions about the recent Cybertruck recall to the Robotaxi. The company had not sent talking points for how to address customers who have questions about Musk or the protests, seven workers said.Do you work for Tesla or have a tip?
