McCarthy also created LISt processing, which is known as the standard programming language widely used in robotics. LISt is also used in order to detect credit card fraud and also comes in handy for airline scheduling. McCarthy made significant contributions such as the concept of computer sharing, or networking. Then, in the 1960s he innovated an early computer system of cloud computing, which helped people share data by linking to a central device. Without McCarthy’s innovations, there would be no signs of AI agents such as ChatGPT, Deep Seek, Grammarly, or Gemini. These AI bots would not have existed.Generative AI And How It Is Being Used GloballyGenerative AI made its way into mainstream media around 2022, and people have started to integrate this tool into their daily lives. An article published by Akooda states that businesses have started to embrace the usage of AI since 2022. A survey called McKinsey Global came out with a percentage report in 2024 to see how many organizations use generative AI. The result of the survey was a whopping 65%. Since its release, AI has reached millions of users worldwide and has gained popularity among various age groups. There was a research conducted by Salesforce which shows that 52% of AI users now depend on these bots to function daily. Some consumers even use it in order to draft scripts, write essays, and help with assignments. Users have reported to have used AI bots for at least 2–4 hours daily.Types Of Generative AIsThere are many types of generative AI, but the most common ones that people use are ChatGPT, Gemini, and Deep Seek. All three of these AIs are similar because they have the same type of user interface. Also, these bots are considered to be OpenAI, which means that they can provide information on the topics that you need without being transparent about the type of data it is being trained on. They are all different because they do not have the same companies, and since data training is based on demographics to a certain extent, all three might have data training that is slightly different from each other. ChatGPT was founded by OpenAI; Deep Seek was founded by Liang Wenfeng, which is a Chinese-based AI research company; Gemini was founded by Google.What Is Predictive AI?Predictive AI refers to machine learning, which uses statistical data in order to identify patterns and anticipate behaviors in order to predict upcoming events or outcomes. Companies use this AI in order to find out the potential risk outcomes and more.Generative AI vs EducationEver since its launch, Generative AI has become more prevalent in education than ever before. Students use it in order to help with assignments, cheating, drafting essays, and brainstorming. A survey conducted by Harvard stated that although many admitted to using generative AI in order to cheat on quizzes, homework, and exams, that is not what is used for the majority of the time. Consequently, the report has shown that 53% of students use generative AI in order to get information, while 51% of students use it for brainstorming. Many use AI as a means to get answers to questions they are too afraid to ask adults, or they use it as guidance on what to say next in a conversation.Is It Ethical To Use Generative AI In Education?It depends on how the AI is being used, which can determine whether or not it can be deemed ethical. If the AI is being used in order to cheat on assignments or if it is being used to auto-generate essays, then yes, it is not ethical in that sense. However, if AI is being used under the supervision of a professor or it is being used in order to brainstorm when you are stuck, then yes, it can be deemed ethical. AI and its usage all depend on how the user intends to use it; if the intent is ethical and within the means of “good,” then yes, generative AI is deemed ethical in education. Subsequently, if the intent is unethical or within the means of “evil,” then no, it is not ethical. I believe it all depends on how the tool is being utilized.Generative AI vs WorkplaceAs stated previously, 65% of companies have started to encourage the usage of AI as of 2024. Ever since the implementation of AIs in the workplace, companies have started to notice various improvements such as design efficiency, strong quality control, and prediction of when maintenance is required. It is deemed critical by companies now due to its efficiency, creativity and decision-making processes. However, AI can potentially replace factory workers, customer service workers, financial analysts, data analysts, and even educators. Teachers are using this tool in order to reduce burnout, as well as give students more opportunities to revise their work, which in return lessens the workload of teachers. In this scenario, AI is deemed ethical because it is being used in order to provide high-quality feedback, and the usage of AI will cause teachers to be more energetic due to AI taking half the workload.Generative AI vs Privacy IssuesGenerative AI uses deep-learning or data collecting in order to generate the prompts that were provided. Ever since its launch, people have started to question whether or not in the future AI will cause privacy issues. When generative models are not trained to protect privacy-preserving algorithms, there is a high risk of privacy attacks. According to an article called Navigating Generative AI Privacy: Challenges and Safeguarding Tips, it states that “large models pose privacy risks by memorizing vast volumes of training data, including sensitive data, which may be exposed accidentally and used by attackers for malicious purposes.” If proper measures are not put into place, then this can and will become a feeding ground for identity theft. Although there have been strict laws which have been put into place in order to protect the common public from these identity breaches, that does not mean those laws are one hundred percent foolproof. In order to safeguard ourselves from the risk of privacy, companies need to be more transparent on how our data is being used; they should also ask for the user’s consent in using private data and give users the right to know how their data is being used in order for “deep learning.” Companies should also restrict any and all usage of sensitive data which can cause identity thefts.AI Privacy Issues & Education, Is It Ethical?AI has made its way into the education field, and one of the biggest concerns regarding AI in the education field is whether or not it will cause a breach of sensitive data to occur. According to a blog post, Artificial Intelligence in Education: Striking a Balance between Innovation and Privacy, it states that the AI systems that are used in educational environments are heavily reliant on data, and this raises questions on whether or not our data is truly protected due to how it may be stored or who might have access to it. The most significant risk factors regarding privacy concerns that are associated with AI in education are as follows: data breaches, exploitation, and constant surveillance. Although there is good usage of AI in the education system, we cannot entirely disregard the potential risk factors that it may pose, especially for students who don’t have a clue about how their data is being perceived and used. A balanced approach would be to have transparency in terms of how data is being used and collected, as well as user control and regular audits. I believe that this can be deemed as non-ethical due to the many risk factors that are involved when using AI in education, in terms of privacy policies. Teachers and Students are putting their private data out in the open if countermeasures are not implemented in order to safeguard the risk of data breaches.ConclusionIn conclusion, AI has taken the world by storm since 2022, when it officially reached a milestone with OpenAI’s introduction of ChatGPT, which is an accessible tool worldwide. Even though it was invented or first introduced in the 1950s, it has made a long journey to become what it is today. Generative AI can be deemed ethical when talking about helping students brainstorm and even helping teachers cut off half the workload. Subsequently, generative AI can also be deemed unethical in scenarios where teachers face job displacement or when the privacy of both teachers and students is at risk of being compromised. It all depends on how the tool is being utilized. WCCFTECH.COMIntel To Reportedly Announce The Layoff Of Over 21,000 Employees – Equal To 20 Percent Of Its Workforce – This WeekThis is not investment advice. Muse, noted earlier this week that he saw "aggressive cost-cutting" and a "greater sense of urgency and purpose" at Intel now that Lip-Bu Tan was at the helm of the iconic chipmaker. Well, we might be about to witness the first such significant penny-pinching step from the new CEO. To wit, Bloomberg is now reporting that Intel will announce plans later this week to cull its workforce by 20 percent. As per a tabulation by Trading Economics, Intel had 108,900 employees at the end of 2024. Accordingly, the planned layoffs would presumably affect over 21,000 employees. Today's tidbit comes as Intel is gearing up to announce its earnings for the first quarter of 2025 as soon as next week. Of course, this would be the first such event under the nascent leadership of Lip-Bu Tan. 2023: Intel announces 15,000 jobs to be eliminated, from approximately 131,900 to 124,800. 2024: Intel announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 15%, which equated to over 15,000 job cuts. 2025 so far (April 22): Intel plans to cut around 20% of its workforce,… — Samantha LaDuc (@SamanthaLaDuc) April 23, 2025 Do note that this is not the first time that the financial media has reported on Intel's planned layoffs in recent months. A similar report by Bloomberg also surfaced back in July 2024, highlighting Intel's then-plans to cull its workforce by 10,000 employees. However, Intel's total workforce has persisted around the 110,000 level for the past few months. Intel, under the tutelage of its previous CEO, Pat Gelsinger, had devised an ambitious cost-cutting plan, to the tune of $10 billion. It remains unclear if Intel's latest purported plan for a 20 percent cut in its workforce adheres to the broad outlines of Gelsinger's strategy or constitutes an entirely new effort by Lip-Bu Tan. Of course, if the planned layoffs do materialize this week, they would constitute a bullish catalyst for Cantor Fitzgerald analysts, who also view with manifest positivity the upcoming Intel Foundry Day event on April 29th and any announcement related to a potential JV. Intel shares are up 2 percent in after-hours trading today, which follows ~4 percent gains in the regular trading session.
