WWW.THEVERGE.COMElon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have spelled out their plans for DOGEElon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have spelled out their plans for DOGEElon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have spelled out their plans for DOGE / Their approach includes recommending executive actions that could result in massive headcount reductions across the government.By Jay Peters, a news editor who writes about technology, video games, and virtual worlds. Hes submitted several accepted emoji proposals to the Unicode Consortium. Nov 21, 2024, 12:55 AM UTCShare this story Illustration by Laura Normand / The VergeElon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were officially appointed the co-leads of President-elect Donald Trumps Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last week, and on Wednesday, the two men spelled out their plans for the advisory group in a long article in The Wall Street Journal.Musk and Ramaswamy say they will serve as outside volunteers making recommendations that allow the Trump administration to cut the federal government down to size. Their primary focus is on cutting down federal agencies, which they view as wasteful and antidemocratic. Most legal edicts arent laws enacted by Congress but rules and regulations promulgated by unelected bureaucrats, write the two unelected men who have been tasked with cutting trillions from the federal budget and rewriting government operations.Musk and Ramaswamy say theyll hire a lean team of small-government crusaders to work with the Trump administration and the White House Office of Management and Budget. Their primary lever for change will be executive action leaning on two recent Supreme Court rulings West Virginia v. Environmental Protection AgencyLoper Bright v. Raimondo (which overturned the Chevron doctrine) which suggest that a plethora of current federal regulations exceed the authority Congress has granted under the law. Here is how DOGE will make its recommendations for what Trump should put pause on a process that will be aided vaguely by advanced technology:DOGE will work with legal experts embedded in government agencies, aided by advanced technology, to apply these rulings to federal regulations enacted by such agencies. DOGE will present this list of regulations to President Trump, who can, by executive action, immediately pause the enforcement of those regulations and initiate the process for review and rescission. This would liberate individuals and businesses from illicit regulations never passed by Congress and stimulate the U.S. economy. As a result, Musk and Ramaswamy foresee Trump cutting thousands of federal regulations and say that these cuts will allow for mass head-count reductions of government employees. DOGE will try to determine the minimum number of employees required at an agency for it to perform its constitutionally permissible and statutorily mandated functions. This will almost certainly hobble many government agencies, which enforce everything from environmental protections to healthcare standards.Musk and Ramaswamy also suggest that Trump could impose rules like requiring federal employees to return to the office five days per week, which they say could bring voluntary terminations they would welcome. If federal employees dont want to show up, American taxpayers shouldnt pay them for the Covid-era privilege of staying home.In the article, Musk and Ramaswamy list a few federal expenditures that seem to be on the chopping block, including $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.Musk and Ramaswamy aim to eliminate the need for DOGEs existence by July 4th, 2026.Most PopularMost Popular0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 41 Visualizações

WWW.THEVERGE.COMNvidia says its Blackwell AI chip is full steam aheadNvidia has become the worlds most valuable company on the back of AI chips, passing Microsoft and Apple along the way, and in todays Q3 2025 earnings, the company suggested its record AI revenue and profits are only the beginning. While The Information recently reported that its new flagship Blackwell AI servers might have cooling issues, the company didnt address that on todays call instead, Nvidia assured investors that Blackwell is in full production, is full steam ahead, and that the company would continue to deliver more of the chips each quarter from here on out. Nvidia has already shipped 13,000 Blackwell samples to its customers this quarter, said CFO Colette Kress, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang claimed Blackwells success can already be measured in the billions as a result. As you can see from all the systems being stood up, Blackwell is in great shape, Huang told investors.RelatedWhile Nvidia has long been known as a graphics and gaming company, pioneering the GPU, its data center fortunes have now outstripped its other businesses by an order of magnitude. Gaming is now merely a $2-3 billion business each quarter for Nvidia, but its AI-infused data centers raked in $30.7 billion this past quarter, making up the vast majority of its $35 billion in quarterly earnings. Much of that is pure profit for Nvidia, too: $14.8 billion in Q1, $16.6 billion in Q2, and now a profit of $19.3 billion in Q3. (Microsoft and Apple made $24.7 billion and $21.4 billion in profit, respectively, this past quarter, though.)Though AI is nowhere near as big a business yet for Nvidia's rival AMD, that company is seeing a similar shift, and is similarly changing its strategy to revolve around AI. Both Nvidia and AMD have accelerated their development timelines, promising to bring out new chips to meet that AI demand each year instead of every two years. Practically, that means theres substantial overlap between each new generation of chips as businesses order them and stick them into data centers. Though Blackwell is Nvidias latest and greatest, Nvidia says today that the H200 it announced last year is actually now the fastest-selling product its ever made, growing to multiple billions of dollars worth this past quarter. Nvidias H100 was its original winning AI product, though it took longer to see its current success; Huang says the company expects demand for its H-series chips to continue through most of next year.Intel, meanwhile, is far behind in terms of AI fortunes and is currently restructuring.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 41 Visualizações

WWW.MARKTECHPOST.COMDeepSeek Introduces DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview with Complete Reasoning Outputs Matching OpenAI o1Artificial intelligence (AI) models have made substantial progress over the last few years, but they continue to face critical challenges, particularly in reasoning tasks. Large language models are proficient at generating coherent text, but when it comes to complex reasoning or problem-solving, they often fall short. This inadequacy is particularly evident in areas requiring structured, step-by-step logic, such as mathematical reasoning or code-breaking. Despite their impressive generative capabilities, models tend to lack transparency in their thought processes, which limits their reliability. Users are often left guessing how a conclusion was reached, leading to a trust gap between AI outputs and user expectations. To address these issues, there is a growing need for models that can provide comprehensive reasoning, clearly showing the steps that led to their conclusions.DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview: A New Approach to Transparent ReasoningDeepSeek has made progress in addressing these reasoning gaps by launching DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview, a model that not only improves performance but also introduces transparency in its decision-making process. The model matches OpenAIs o1 preview-level performance and is now available for testing through DeepSeeks chat interface, which is optimized for extended reasoning tasks. This release aims to tackle deficiencies in AI-driven problem-solving by offering complete reasoning outputs. DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview demonstrates its capabilities through benchmarks like AIME and MATH, positioning itself as a viable alternative to some of the most advanced models in the industry.https://x.com/deepseek_ai/status/1859200149844803724/photo/1Technical DetailsDeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview provides a significant improvement in reasoning by incorporating Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning capabilities. This feature allows the AI to present its thought process in real time, enabling users to follow the logical steps taken to reach a solution. Such transparency is crucial for users who require detailed insight into how an AI model arrives at its conclusions, whether they are students, professionals, or researchers. The models ability to tackle intricate prompts and display its thinking process helps clarify AI-driven results and instills confidence in its accuracy. With o1-preview-level performance on industry benchmarks like AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination) and MATH, DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview stands as a strong contender in the field of advanced AI models. Additionally, the model and its API are slated to be open-sourced, making these capabilities accessible to the broader community for experimentation and integration.https://x.com/deepseek_ai/status/1859200145037869485/photo/1Significance and ResultsDeepSeek-R1-Lite-Previews transparent reasoning outputs represent a significant advancement for AI applications in education, problem-solving, and research. One of the critical shortcomings of many advanced language models is their opacity; they arrive at conclusions without revealing their underlying processes. By providing a transparent, step-by-step chain of thought, DeepSeek ensures that users can see not only the final answer but also understand the reasoning that led to it. This is particularly beneficial for applications in educational technology, where understanding the why is often just as important as the what. In benchmark testing, the model displayed performance levels comparable to OpenAIs o1 preview, specifically on challenging tasks like those found in AIME and MATH. One test prompt involved deciphering the correct sequence of numbers based on cluestasks requiring multiple layers of reasoning to exclude incorrect options and arrive at the solution. DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview provided the correct answer (3841) while maintaining a transparent output that explained each step of the reasoning process.ConclusionDeepSeeks introduction of DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview marks a noteworthy advancement in AI reasoning capabilities, addressing some of the critical shortcomings seen in current models. By matching OpenAIs o1 in terms of benchmark performance and enhancing transparency in decision-making, DeepSeek has managed to push the boundaries of AI in meaningful ways. The real-time thought process and forthcoming open-source model and API release indicate DeepSeeks commitment to making advanced AI technologies more accessible. As the field continues to evolve, models like DeepSeek-R1-Lite-Preview could bring clarity, accuracy, and accessibility to complex reasoning tasks across various domains. Users now have the opportunity to experience a reasoning model that not only provides answers but also reveals the reasoning behind them, making AI both more understandable and trustworthy.Check out the Official Tweet and Try it here. TOWARDSAI.NETQwen 2.5 Coder 32B: Is This Best Open Weight Model Better than GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 SonnetAuthor(s): Barhoumi Mosbeh Originally published on Towards AI. On November 11, Alibaba announced its most advanced coding model to date: Qwen 2.5-Coder-32B-Instruct. But thats not all, its actually part of a whole family of coding models! In addition to the 32B model, there are versions with 0.5B, 1.5B, 3B, 7B, and 14B parameters. Before writing this article, I reviewed feedback from many of YouTubers, writers, and technical experts, and the consensus has been overwhelmingly positive. Today, well explore whether it really lives up to the hype.Ive been using ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude for a while, and I can confidently say that Claude is the best at coding and understanding complex tasks. To be honest, Gemini is in a different league altogether. Fun fact: I once won a machine learning competition two years ago using Bard (now rebranded as Gemini) because everyone else was using ChatGPT. Bards performance gave me a competitive edge back then. Today, I believe Gemini might be the best vision model available, but overall, Im not a big fan.To evaluate the models performance in coding, we should cover the following three key aspects: Code Generation, Code Repair, and Code Reasoning. Additionally, we need to consider how many programming languages the model supports and its alignment with human preferences.OverviewBefore testing out Alibabas model, lets take a look at the performance results they have announced.Based on their internal benchmarks, it even outperforms GPT-4 and comes very close to Claude 3.5. However, I personally dont place too much weight on internal benchmarks alone, but the results seem very interesting according to those who have tried it.You can find more details about the performance here:Qwen2.5-Coder-32B-Instruct Qwen2Now it is the time, Nov. 11 10:24! The perfect time for our best coder model ever! Qwen2.5-Coder-32B-Instruct!qwen2.orgIm testing the model locally using Ollama:qwen2.5-coder:32bThe latest series of Code-Specific Qwen models, with significant improvements in code generation, code reasoning, andollama.comYou can also try out the model on the demo page of Hugging Face:Qwen2.5 Coder Demo a Hugging Face Space by QwenDiscover amazing ML apps made by the communityhuggingface.coCode GenerationMany people have already covered how well it performs in web and design:So, we will focus on testing it with some Python challenges. Lets start with a medium-level LeetCode problem:PromptThe problem description: Longest Substring Without Repeating CharactersAnswerclass Solution(object): def lengthOfLongestSubstring(self, s): """ :type s: str :rtype: int """ # Dictionary to store the last seen index of each character char_index_map = {} # Initialize the start of the current window and the maximum length start = 0 max_length = 0 for end in range(len(s)): # If the character is already in the map and its index is within the current window if s[end] in char_index_map and char_index_map[s[end]] >= start: # Move the start to the right of the last occurrence of the current character start = char_index_map[s[end]] + 1 # Update the last seen index of the current character char_index_map[s[end]] = end # Update the maximum length of the substring found so far max_length = max(max_length, end - start + 1) return max_lengthResultsImage from the authorNot the best, but it gets things done and passes all the tests. Can it solve a hard problem? (Note that the model could have been trained on these problems already, but its still impressive.)PromptProblem description: Regular Expression MatchingAnswerclass Solution(object): def isMatch(self, s, p): """ :type s: str :type p: str :rtype: bool """ m, n = len(s), len(p) # Create a 2D array to store the results of subproblems dp = [[False] * (n + 1) for _ in range(m + 1)] # Base case: empty string matches empty pattern dp[0][0] = True # Handle patterns like a*, a*b*, etc., which can match an empty string for j in range(1, n + 1): if p[j - 1] == '*': dp[0][j] = dp[0][j - 2] # Fill the dp table for i in range(1, m + 1): for j in range(1, n + 1): if p[j - 1] == '.' or p[j - 1] == s[i - 1]: dp[i][j] = dp[i - 1][j - 1] elif p[j - 1] == '*': dp[i][j] = dp[i][j - 2] # '*' matches zero occurrences if p[j - 2] == '.' or p[j - 2] == s[i - 1]: dp[i][j] = dp[i][j] or dp[i - 1][j] # '*' matches one or more occurrences # The result is in dp[m][n] return dp[m][n]ResultsImage from the authorAfter testing it on 1020 problems on LeetCode, I have the impression that it was trained on all problems, so its not the best way to evaluate it. However, its still worth sharing. Additionally, it always chooses to provide a Python solution, even when not specifically asked for one. But lets try something different. I asked the model to optimize the code to minimize resource consumption as much as possible.Image from the authorI didnt expect that, but when I asked the model to improve the performance, it even fails in the simplest cases.Lets now move to the next test, Code Repair. I will be providing the model with some code containing errors generated by Claude. I asked the model to generate some hard cases to fix, and lets see how it performs.Code RepairPromptThe following code contains several bugs. Please identify and fix them, and provide an explanation for each bug you find.class AsyncTaskQueue: def __init__(self): self.tasks = [] self.running = False self.lock = threading.Lock() self.workers = [] async def add_task(self, task): async with self.lock: self.tasks.append(task) if not self.running: self.start_processing() async def start_processing(self): self.running = True while self.tasks: task = self.tasks.pop(0) worker = asyncio.create_task(self.process_task(task)) self.workers.append(worker) if len(self.workers) >= 3: done, pending = await asyncio.wait(self.workers) self.workers = list(pending) self.running = False async def process_task(self, task): result = await task() return result AnswerCertainly! Let's go through the provided code and identify the issues, then correct them. Here are the main problems and their fixes:Issues IdentifiedThreading Lock Usage with Asyncio:The threading.Lock is not suitable for use with asyncio. Instead, you should use asyncio.Lock.Async Context Manager for Lock:The async with statement is used incorrectly with threading.Lock. It should be used with asyncio.Lock.Starting Processing:The start_processing method should be called in a non-blocking manner. Since start_processing is an async method, it should be awaited properly.Task Management:The start_processing method should handle task processing more efficiently. The current implementation might not handle task completion correctly.Worker Management:The workers list should be managed more carefully to ensure that tasks are completed before marking the queue as not running.Corrected CodeHere's the corrected version of the code:import asyncioimport threadingclass AsyncTaskQueue: def __init__(self): self.tasks = [] self.running = False self.lock = asyncio.Lock() self.workers = [] async def add_task(self, task): async with self.lock: self.tasks.append(task) if not self.running: self.running = True asyncio.create_task(self.start_processing()) async def start_processing(self): while True: async with self.lock: if not self.tasks: self.running = False break task = self.tasks.pop(0) worker = asyncio.create_task(self.process_task(task)) self.workers.append(worker) if len(self.workers) >= 3: done, pending = await asyncio.wait(self.workers, return_when=asyncio.FIRST_COMPLETED) self.workers = list(pending) async def process_task(self, task): result = await task() return result# Example usageasync def example_task(): await asyncio.sleep(1) print("Task completed") return "Result"async def main(): queue = AsyncTaskQueue() await queue.add_task(example_task) await queue.add_task(example_task) await queue.add_task(example_task) await queue.add_task(example_task) await queue.add_task(example_task) await queue.add_task(example_task)asyncio.run(main())Explanation of FixesAsyncio Lock:Replaced threading.Lock with asyncio.Lock to ensure compatibility with asynchronous operations.Async Context Manager for Lock:Used async with self.lock: to properly manage the lock in an asynchronous context.Starting Processing:Changed the logic to start processing in a non-blocking manner by using asyncio.create_task(self.start_processing()) inside add_task.Task Management:Modified start_processing to continuously check for tasks and process them until no tasks are left. It breaks out of the loop when there are no more tasks and sets self.running to False.Worker Management:Ensured that workers are managed correctly by using asyncio.wait with return_when=asyncio.FIRST_COMPLETED to handle task completion efficiently.Example UsageThe example usage demonstrates how to add tasks to the AsyncTaskQueue and run them asynchronously. The main function adds several tasks to the queue, and they are processed concurrently with a maximum of 3 workers at a time. This corrected and optimized code should perform better and be more reliable. Results and feedbackClaude evaluates the models response as 7.5/10. with this feedback:While the model provided a functionally correct solution, it delivered a tutorial-grade fix rather than a production-grade implementation. This indicates that for complex concurrent programming tasks, human expertise is still crucial for robust system design. After experimenting with the model, it gets the job done, but often requires follow-up prompts to improve the response. While it doesnt struggle with understanding the task at hand and can correct most critical bugs, it still lacks some of the strengths seen in models like ChatGPT and Claude, particularly in areas such as error handling, resource management, and optimization. I believe these may be the models key weaknesses.Specialized LLMs: A New Era in AIIts fascinating to witness the emergence of relatively small, domain-specific language models that can run locally. I believe were entering an exciting new era of specialized LLMs, and this is just the beginning. While the concept isnt new, were finally seeing models that truly excel in specific domains. The combination of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) and specialist LLMs could define the AI landscape in the coming months/years. Were likely to see more powerful coding-focused models from industry leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic. Programming is perhaps one of the most natural domains for specialized AI, and we might soon see even more focused models, imagine LLMs specifically optimized for DevOps or front-end development!Dont feel overwhelmed by these rapid advances. Yes, it can be somewhat daunting to see LLMs mastering skills that traditionally took years to develop. Coding, which has challenged humanity for decades, is being transformed before our eyes. But rather than seeing this as an endpoint, we should view it as an opportunity for growth and innovation.Whether the current wave of LLM advances slows down in the coming years or this is merely the beginning of a longer journey, our response should remain the same: stay curious, keep learning, and never stop innovating. WWW.IGN.COMScott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2 Is Officially Dead After Netflix Declines to Pick Up Another Year of the AnimeScott Pilgrim Takes Off won't be getting a second season, creator Bryan Lee O'Malley has confirmed, ending any hope that it might return to pick up the last plot hooks left dangling at the end of its finale.O'Malley took to X/Twitter to confirm the news, writing to fans, "It's been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out. It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment [BenDavid Grabinski] sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle."He continued, "Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return. As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope."O'Malley went on to apologize to fans of the characters Matthew Patel and Gideon Graves, who he says will "suffer the most."Asked about a possible physical release, O'Malley said "we'll see" after Netflix's period of exclusively ends. As for what the apparent tease for Season 2 was ultimately all about, he said simply, "This is a happily ever after."O'Malley has been vocal about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off only being meant for one season. In an interview shortly after its release, he said, "Its self-contained for now. We loved what we did. We put it all in there. We dont have any ideas lying on the floor. We pretty much put them all in. I never say never, but right now, it seems like it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen. So well see."PlayDespite his pessimism, fans continued to hold out hope that Netflix greenlight a second season, but that hope ended with today's post. Netflix's decision not to move forward with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2 appears to close the book on Scott Pilgrim, which began as an indie comic series in the 2000s before becoming a cult favorite movie directed by Edgar Wright. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was positioned as an animated remake of the original story but quickly went in some very different directions. We wrote in our review, "The sooner you watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the less time youll spend worrying about spoilers, and the sooner youll get to enjoy a breathtaking reimagining of Bryan Lee OMalleys graphic novels. Even with the core cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World along for the ride, its no mere exercise in nostalgia, but a fresh coat of paint on a versatile coming-of-age story, whose vibrant animation and expanded scope bring new dimensions to the garage rockers, video-store clerks, ninja-couriers, and evil exes who inhabit 'Toronto, Canada Not Too Long Ago.'"Kat Bailey is IGN's News Director as well as co-host of Nintendo Voice Chat. WWW.IGN.COMThe Stylish Anker Zolo 10,000mAh Power Bank Is Under $10 for Black FridayAmazon is currently offering the Anker Zolo 10,000mAh 30W USB Power Bank for $9.59 after you apply coupon code "ANKER1688". This is an incredible deal that will sell out extremely quickly. The black and white colors are already gone, so there's only blue and pink left. The Zolo power bank is compact, can completely recharge a Switch console more than once, and has a couple of unique nifty features, like a built-in USB cable and a discrete digital displa. Plus, it's decked out in a rare pastel blue color scheme.Anker Zolo 10,000mAh USB Power Bank for $9.59Will sell out quickly!Anker Zolo 10,000mAh 30W USB Power BankThere are two reasons why this power bank is a great battery backup for your Nintendo Switch console: capacity and charging rate. A 10,000mAh (37Whr) power bank can charge a Nintendo Switch OLED from completely empty to full about 1.9 times. Provided you fully charge your Switch from the get-go, that nearly triples your total playtime. At the same time, a 10,000mAh power bank still maintains a pretty small footprint; for example, this particular model is about the size of an iPhone and weighs under 8oz. The Anker Zolo power bank also boasts a 30W charging output over USB Type-C. The Nintendo Switch console accepts a maximum charging rate of 18W. That means this power bank will be able to charge your Switch at the same rate as the official Nintendo charger. The Zolo has a built-in USB cable, however it's not retractable. Instead, you plug it into itself so that it forms a secure loop that's strong enough to be used like a lanyard (within reason). There's also a separate USB Type-C port that be used for either input or output. Finally, there's a simple digital display that shows you the remaining battery charge as a percentage.TSA-ApprovedNote that the TSA requires all power banks to be brought in carry-on bags; power banks are not allowed in check-in regardless of capacity. The Anker power bank's 10,000mAh capacity is well below TSA's 27,000mAh carry-on limit, so it can be brought onto planes. It's also low-profile enough that no one will take notice in the first place. If a TSA official actually does take the initiative to test the wattage on your power bank, you're well in the clear. For more options, check out our picks for the best power banks of 2024. WWW.DENOFGEEK.COMShetland Series 9 Episode 3 Review: Shetland? More like The X-FilesWarning: contains spoilers forShetlandseries nine episode three.Billy, get me everything you can on this new marine lab, requested DI Calder in episode three. Copy us in too, Billy, because that shady facility is shaping up to be the epicentre of this years investigation.Just what is pluripotency expert (thank you, freeze-frame) Dr Mohan doing in that remote laboratory? Genetically engineering a new species of cold-resistant detectives to replace our shivering duo? Splicing frog and dinosaur DNA to turn Shetland into a new Jurassic Park? Perfecting the recipe for the ultimate shortbread biscuit?Whatever Mohan is up to, its part of series nines heightened twist onShetlands usual investigations. Spies, secret experiments,X-Files-style cold opens in which Looney-Tunes locals have their brains turned into mashed potato after getting caught trespassing in the no-go zone its a long way from this crime dramas usual fare. Unless the lab turns out to be a red herring distracting us from a more domestic answer to the question of who killed Annie and Anton,Shetlandis venturing onto new ground. And so is DI Calder, whos formed an unexpected to her, at least attachment to little Noah Bett. Ruths awkward interactions with Noah are rather sweet to watch, like eavesdropping on a shy kid trying to make a new pal. Contrasted with Toshs calm, capable, adult approach to the boy, Ruth comes across more like his peer than an investigating officer. The bond shes slowly building with Noah may prove vital if he remains the only witness to the murders. That fact hasnt escaped Professor Rossi, the former Oxford spy apologies, analyst who appears to be running his own investigation into Annies murder. Rossi has repeatedly asked after Noah, and this week parked outside his aunts house to spy on his police visit. If the previous series hadnt revolved around a genealogy twist, we might assume that Rossi is Noahs biological father, butShetlandwouldnt repeat itself so soon. Rossis interest in the boy must be down to his status as a witness. Does Rossi suspect Noah, does he want to know what Noah saw, or does he want to ensure that he keeps quiet?Read more In short: is the professor to be trusted? At the halfway point of a six-part murder mystery, its traditional for everybody in the cast to look a bit sus, and Rossis sneaking around this episode and turning up unexpectedly at Ruths home (nice, the little nod to her continuing grief over Cal in that record collection chat), certainly fulfilled that requirement. He wasnt the only one dinging alarm bells.
