  • Totem side table brings cute, minimalist, modular concept
    www.yankodesign.com
There are some kinds of furniture that I dont really pay much attention to their design. Since I have a limited space (and a lot of stuff), my preference for them is more functional than aesthetic. Side tables are one kind of home furniture that are like that for me, although there are several designs there that do catch my attention, even if I probably wont actually buy them.Designer: Ross Sorokovyi (MUDU Design)The Totem concept for a side table is one of those eye-catching designs as its pretty cute. Named after its inspiration, it is a minimalist kind of furniture and when I say minimalist, I also mean small. Thats why I say that I probably wont use it since it may not be so useful for a maximalist like me. But if youre looking for a cute kind of side table, then this may appeal to you.The base and pole of the side table is made from solid wood while the table top uses a stainless steel material. It has a three-legged base which makes it look like a cartoon character. The table top seems to be detachable based on the product renders. It also can be connected to other Totems, if like me, you find it too small. There also seems to be different heights for the side table so you can create a more aesthetic look if you have space. The thin metal edges can also be a bit intimidating, as if it could cut into your skin if you press too hard. Circles are also not the most space-efficient shape, as you are cutting corners, almost literally. You lose out on some space in exchange for a unique and pleasing visual. Then again, as a minimalist side table, that might be fine for some people. For now, Totem remains a concept as the designers are still looking for a manufacturer, although theyre looking at 2025 as the year they will actually produce it. When it comes an actual side table, we might get more details about it, in case it interests you. The post Totem side table brings cute, minimalist, modular concept first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Structural side table adds a bit of tension and chaotic beauty to your space
    www.yankodesign.com
Tables are designed to be stable, or at least they should be if theyre meant to serve their purpose of providing a safe horizontal platform to put things on. More often than not, table designs are meant to visually convey that characteristic through their structure, forms, and materials. Of course, there will always be exceptions that challenge our brains with a visual that seems contrary to a tables spirit. This table might be made of thick stainless steel always associated with sturdiness, but its irregular, almost chaotic appearance goes against that flow. In fact, its asymmetrical structure doesnt inspire confidence in its stability, forcing people to pause and possibly consider the deeper meaning behind the beautiful yet unorthodox side table design.Designers: Nikita Gorshkov, Alexandra Ivanets (Primitive Buro)Very few things in nature have perfect symmetries or geometrical shapes. You will always find some imperfection, like a jagged edge, a torn piece, or a missing part in naturally occurring things, and yet these very same objects impress a sense of beauty that is difficult to pull off artificially. Designers continue to be inspired by these imperfections, transforming flaws into strengths like in this Flaw coffee table.Almost like a decaying tree trunk, a puddle of muddy water, or a cracked piece of rock, the Flow tables lone leg introduces an element of controlled chaos to the design. Rather than some uniform pattern, the abstract-looking jagged edges create a sense of tension that is meant to contrast with the rest of the tables aesthetic. Polished to a mirror-like finish, the stainless steel construction looks almost diametrically opposed to the brutally unfinished shape of the table. It also has the effect of distorting the images mirrored on its surface. While most tables have two or more legs to keep them balanced, the Flow tables asymmetrical bracket-like form will cause some to wonder whether it will tip over under some weight. Of course, its crafted to actually be structurally stable, but that doesnt stop our minds from questioning the disjunct between what our eyes see and what we expect. It adds yet another element to that controlled chaos and beautiful contrast that the design wants to express. The Flow table offers a bold and interesting choice for homeowners who like to live on the edge and have furniture that reflects that as well. The tension between chaos and control, unpredictability and stability, and asymmetry and balance make for an interesting presence in any space, whether its in the middle of your living room or even off to the side of your desk. The post Structural side table adds a bit of tension and chaotic beauty to your space first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Pretty rare Honda CT50 Motra minibike is a Motocompos beasty cousin on steroids
    www.yankodesign.com
Modern-day cargo bikes are a handful when it comes to rugged build and a dominating persona. Its probably why such haulers dont appeal to the young crowd. So, are there any utilitarian bikes that can haul your daily groceries without looking like an old mans ride?Well have to go back in time, more than four decades in the past to find the answer in the form of a Honda minibike that was way ahead of its time. The CT50 Motra which was a combination of a heavy-duty bike that could ride any terrain and a sizeable cargo motorcycle, is the answer to owning a cargo bike that looks ready to carry all your load.Designer: HondaThe naming convention comes from the words motorcycle and truck in Japanese language. This boxy bike has shown up in an auction at Mecum Auctions in bring yellow hue. The exclusivity of the bike is apparent as it was produced only for the Japanese market between the years 1982 to 1983. The 50cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine is connected to a 3-speed manual transmission which is tweaked for normal and off-road travel. This toggle is done using the high-low gear transfer case common to 44 trucks. That gives this cheeky little beast the power to climb 23-degree gradients in high gear.It is pretty clear, the motorbike is tailored for low-speed travel on not so hospitable terrain. When it comes to powerful torque, it has enough meat to pull a decent-sized sedan with ease. Call it an advantage or disadvantage, the minibike weighs 77 kg which is more than a typical e-bike or cargo bike. But it is the perfect little companion for country roads and trails. Coming from the house of Honda, this has Motcompo vibes to it in fact, it seems like a Motocompo on steroids. Some previously sold Motra bikes fetched anywhere between $4,000 $5,000 and this one should too. The bike has just a 25,034 km odometer reading which means it should be in pristine condition when it comes to engine longevity. If you already fancy buying this exclusive two-wheeler from the past, the auction is all set to go live on 29 January in Las Vegas. The post Pretty rare Honda CT50 Motra minibike is a Motocompos beasty cousin on steroids first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • This Impressive 15-in-1 Titanium Multitool Has More Tools and Features Than Youll Ever Need
    www.yankodesign.com
Sometimes, the most incredible things come in small packages. Thats definitely the case with the TriPro Stand, a sleek multitool that packs 15 functions into something no bigger than your finger. Its like having a tiny toolbox clipped to your keychainonly this ones made from titanium, weighs a mere 56 grams, and looks good doing it. Lets just say this little guy punches well above its weight.Multitools arent exactly a new concept. But the TriPro Stand feels different, like someone finally stopped to ask: What do people actually want to carry every day? The result is a thoughtfully designed gadget that solves real problems without overloading you with unnecessary frills. From a phone stand to a screwdriver, SIM ejector, knife, knife-sharpener, pry-bar, window-breaker, (and many more), everything about it feels practical. Not flashy, not excessivejust right.Designer: AlloyXClick Here to Buy Now: $69 $99 ($30 discount) Hurry! Only 28 of 80 left!Barely the size of an old-school USB thumb drive, the TriPro Stand is a clever little tool that combines great design with great features. The great design part lies in just how much it packs in such a small form factor, all owing to its machined titanium body. The sheer durability of titanium over other metals like steel or aluminum mean tiny details can take on immense amounts of physical stress, so a spoke wrench can be just a few millimeters wide and work flawlessly without breaking or warping. On the feature front, having as many as 15 tools in one design makes the TriPro Stand a must-have for pretty much all the problems life throws at you.Take the phone stand feature, for example. Its not some flimsy gimmick slapped on as an afterthought. The stand uses its detachable panels to hold your phone at a comfortable 45-degree angle, in portrait or landscape mode. Video calls, Netflix binges, even recipe-following in the kitchenit handles it all without fuss. And when youre done, it folds back into its compact form, ready to disappear into a pocket or attach to your keyring. But thats just the start of what this multitool can do. If youve ever needed a screwdriver on the fly, youll appreciate the bit driver system. Its got both 1/4-inch and 1/6-inch options, with onboard storage for three bits so youre always prepared. Loose screw on a chair? Easy. Quick bike adjustment? No problem. A tiny hatch holds as many as 3 bits that you can pop out and snap onto multiple docking areas on the TriPro Stand (for better torque/grip or reach), and built-in magnets hold the bits in place whether theyre docked or stashed away, so a lost hex bit is never a problem. What I personally love about the TriPro Stand is also its ability to foresee needs that you usually wouldnt. Now hey, I dont normally need a SIM ejector on the fly, but whenever Ive needed one, Ive always had to dig right into my gadget cupboard for an old smartphone box and search for a SIM ejector inside. With the TriPro Stand, you get a SIM ejector snapped right onto the tool. A magnet holds it in place in its recessed cabin so it doesnt accidentally fall out. When you ever need a SIM ejector, pop it out. When youre done, it goes right back in. Neat, huh?The outdoor crowd gets a nod too. With a pry bar, nail puller, and even a portable knife sharpener, its clear the TriPro Stand isnt just for desk-dwellers. The folding scalpel, in particular, is a standout feature. Lightweight and easy to handle, its perfect for precision tasks like opening packages or quick crafting projects. Plus, the blades are replaceable, and the mechanism makes switching them out a breeze. The spoke wrench is a familiar feature to anyone who rides bicycles. It helps tighten or loosen the spokes on your wheels to ensure a smooth ride, and complements the TriPro Stands screwdriver feature well. Finally, a tungsten-tip glass-breaker gives the TriPro Stand its last-but-not-least feature. Any multitool should serve flawlessly in an emergency, and whats more urgent than needing to save your life? Simply hold the TriPro Stand firmly in your grip and strike the window-breaker tip onto any kind of glass (even hardened ones) and the glass instantly shatters. Pair this with the scalpel knife that should easily cut through a seatbelt and you have the perfect emergency escape tool right in your pocket. The TriPro Stand is a marvel of compact engineering, measuring just 8 cm (3.1 inches) in length and tipping the scales at a featherweight 56 grams (1.9 ounces). Crafted from titanium alloy, it boasts exceptional strength and resistance to corrosion while remaining light enough to carry effortlessly. A keychain loop means the multitool can be strung to a lanyard or keyring, although its compact design easily makes it pocket-friendly. Tritium slots let you dock glow-vials so you can spot your EDC in the dark too, and ditch the removable scalpel blade and the entire thing becomes TSA-friendly and flight-legal.The TriPro Stand is currently raising funds on Kickstarter, with prices starting at $69 for early backers. Each unit comes with five replacement blades, a SIM card ejector, and three screwdriver bits. Shipping is included, and the estimated delivery date is May 2025. For something this feature-packed, that price feels more than reasonableespecially considering the fact that with even moderate use, this titanium multitool should easily last you a lifetime and then some more!Click Here to Buy Now: $69 $99 ($30 discount) Hurry! Street Fighter, often hailed as the father of modern fighting games and esports, once ruled neon-lit arcades where lines of eager challengers vied for bragging rights. For me, growing up in the 80s meant falling under its spell at age 13, back when quarters vanished fast as I honed my reflexes and memorized combos. Iconic Arcade, with backing from Medion AGa Lenovo company recognized for its strengths in gaming and computingis inviting fans to relive those glory days by launching the Street Fighter XXL Arcade Machine at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.Designer: Iconic ArcadeThis 9/10 scale stand-up cabinet captures the vibe of a classic arcade unit without dominating your rec room. The World Warrior edition sports a gritty black-and-yellow theme that perfectly encapsulates the hard-hitting vibe of the original arcade. Its side panel features Ryu in a dynamic fighting stance, with bold yellow text slashing across the cabinets side. This textured design reflects the rugged and competitive spirit of the era, with details like the Capcom USA logo adding a nod to its heritage. The Alpha 2 edition takes a different approach, opting for a sleek blue gradient backdrop with key characters from the Alpha series depicted in striking artwork. • Is This $30 Foldable Racing Wheel the Best Way to Play Mario Kart on Switch 2?
    www.yankodesign.com
Just in case you were living under a rock, Nintendo dropped the big news yesterday: the Switch 2 is officially on its way (yes we got Switch 2 before we got GTA 6). While the console itself is grabbing headlines for its revamped design and rumored features, the real buzz in some corners is all about a foldable steering wheel. Yes, you read that righta foldable steering wheel from accessory maker Nacon. And its aimed squarely at Mario Kart fans who want to take their races beyond thumbstick twiddling. The wheel itself is a clever piece of kit. Its small enough to sit on a desk, thanks to suction cups that hold it in place during the most intense karting battles. Pop in the Switch 2s Joy-Cons, and youve got yourself a racing setup that looks like a miniature version of the high-end wheels PC gamers use for their intricate simulator rigs. It doesnt come with fancy extras like force feedback (what do you expect for thirty bucks?), but the design makes it feel a lot less like a toy and more like a playful nod to serious hardware. Oh, and it folds up neatly, so no worries about it hogging your workspace.Designer: NaconMario Kart is clearly the muse for this little gadget, and it makes sense. The next chapter in the franchise was teased during the Switch 2 announcement, although Nintendo kept the details frustratingly vague. But if youve spent countless hours lobbing green shells at your friends in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this steering wheel is practically calling your name. Its not trying to reinvent the racing wheel; its more about making the experience of drifting around corners feel a bit more naturaland fun.Of course, Nacon hasnt stopped at the wheel. The companys been readying an entire suite of accessories for the Switch 2, from the usual suspects like cases and chargers to smaller steering wheels designed to slip over individual Joy-Cons. But this foldable wheel has clearly stolen the spotlight. At $30, it feels like the kind of peripheral you dont need but definitely want, especially if youre planning to sink hours into Mario Karts famously chaotic multiplayer. The timing of Nacons announcement is also worth noting. The Switch 2 accessories scene has been heating up for months, even before Nintendo officially unveiled the console. Companies like Dbrand and Genki have been rolling out screen protectors, silicone wraps, and other essentials for a while now, and smaller accessory makers have jumped in, too. But Nacons gear stands out because it feels more intentional. This isnt just about slapping the Switch 2 logo on existing products; its about leaning into what makes the consoleand its gamesspecial.Theres still no word on when the steering wheel or any of Nacons other accessories will actually ship. Preorders havent gone live, and Nintendo hasnt locked down a specific release date for the Switch 2 itself. But with the hype building, its safe to say the wait wont be too long. Whether this wheel ends up as a staple for Mario Kart fans or just a quirky addition to the Switch 2 ecosystem, its the kind of product that gets people talkingand maybe a little nostalgic for the days of clunky plastic peripherals that made gaming just a bit more physical. If nothing else, this steering wheel gives you a reason to rethink your desk setup. A compact, foldable, Mario Kart-ready wheel isnt the most essential thing to own, but it might be the most fun youll have with thirty dollars. And hey, at least it folds up when youre done throwing bananas at your rivals. Who needs force feedback when youve got a blue shell in your corner? The post Is This $30 Foldable Racing Wheel the Best Way to Play Mario Kart on Switch 2? first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Shelter concept creates fun, permanent fort for kids
    www.yankodesign.com
Most children have probably built a fort or hut or shelter in their living bedroom or bedroom and engaged in playful shenanigans inside and around it. Most of the time though its just several pillows and bedsheets propped up by chairs and tables and we have to dismantle them when the adults say we need to clean up the room. What if there was a more permanent kind that kids can keep and stay in whenever they want?Designer: Valeria OrlovaShelter is a concept for a permanent hut to add to your kids room. Well, probably permanent until they outgrow it or destroy it, whichever comes first. It is made from a box-like material and is shaped like the silhouette of a mountain with a cave-like opening. The outside is decorated with various constellations so in the evening the child can have a starry view from outside the hut. On the side of the mountain are through the wall storage spaces with hinged systems so they can just throw in toys inside (or hide them quickly in case they need to). Inside the cave, the back wall is covered with paint slate so the kids can draw on it with chalk, creating their own artwork or codes and ciphers. There are also some stones and other materials outside to give the feel of a mountain (or a gingerbread house, but with stones instead of gingerbread).Part of the joy of creating forts is using whatever material you have lying around but also part of the heartbreak is getting them down. So a permanent structure like this may be the next best thing for the child and the child at heart. It can remove a bit of the imagination that goes into makeshift huts but theres still plenty to do inside and outside anyways. Known for its bold design philosophy and focus on youth-centric innovation, Realme continues to push boundaries with the launch of the Realme 14 series.Positioned as the brands mid-range camera phone, realmes number series has enjoyed collaborations with renowned designers like Matteo Menotto (realme 11 Pro series) and Olliver Saveo (realme 12 Pro series), to name a few. As the first release in the reimagined realme Number Series, realme teamed up with acclaimed Nordic industrial design studio Valeur Designers to showcase a sleek, modern aesthetic, embodying Realmes dedication to seamlessly blending style with performance. The Realme 14 Pro+ packs a punch with its high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, powerful chipset, and advanced camera capabilities, making it a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone segment. In this review, well dive deeper into how the Realme 14 Pro+ balances performance, design, and value to meet the needs of its tech-driven audience.Designer: realmeAestheticsRealme has emphasized design as a key element of its brand identity, and the realme 14 Pro+ exemplifies this focus. The device stands out in the smartphone market, largely due to its collaboration with the Nordic industrial design studio, Valeur Designers. This partnership led to the development of the Pearl Design, which draws inspiration from marine life. One of the standout features of the device is its back panel, which introduces a world-first cold-sensitive color-changing technology. Using thermochromic pigments, the panel responds to temperature fluctuations, shifting from a soft pearl white to a vibrant blue when the temperature drops below 16C (60.8F).As the temperature rises above this threshold, the color gradually returns to its original pearl white. Over time, the color-changing effect will naturally fade with regular use realme estimates this process to take around 12 months. While some may view this as a limitation, it adds a layer of organic, even human-like quality to the device. In a conversation with Torsten, the lead designer at Valeur Design, during an interview in Copenhagen, he shared an intriguing perspective. He pointed out how odd it is that we spend so much of our day interacting with our phones often more than with actual people yet the devices themselves remain largely static and unchanging, and almost lifeless. In contrast, the realme 14 Pro+ offers a dynamic, evolving aspect that feels warmer and more connected to us. Instead of being a static object, the phone evolves with its user, responding to environmental changes in a way that mirrors the dynamic, ever-changing nature of human experience. This shift in design philosophy provides a more intimate, almost living quality to the device, making it feel less like a tool and more like a companion that grows alongside us.The 14 Pro+ is available in two color variants: Pearl White and Suede Grey. While both options offer a clean, modern aesthetic, the Pearl White version stands out with its unique color-changing back panel. Additionally, the Pearl White variant is finished with a shell-like texture, enhanced with organic seashell powder for a distinctive tactile feel. For those who prefer a more understated design, the Suede Grey variant provides a minimalist look with a soft, vegan suede leather finish that offers both a refined appearance and a smooth, luxurious touch.ErgonomicsThe realme 14 Pro+ stands out for its thoughtful ergonomic design, with Valeur Designers and realme paying close attention to comfort, making it easy to use for extended periods. One of the key features contributing to this is its quad-curved back cover, which is carefully shaped to fit naturally in the palm. This design not only enhances the phones aesthetics but also improves overall comfort, especially during prolonged use.At just 7.99 mm thick, the 14 Pro+ is noticeably slimmer than its predecessor, the realme 13 Pro+, which measures 8.41 mm. This reduction in thickness, combined with a well-distributed weight, ensures the phone feels light yet substantial, striking a balanced mix of portability and premium quality. The Pearl White variant of the 14 Pro+ measures 163.51 x 77.34 x 7.99 mm and weighs 194 grams, providing a lightweight feel that still feels durable. The Suede Grey variant, slightly thicker at 8.29 mm and weighing 196 grams, adds a tactile layer of luxury with its vegan suede leather finish, enhancing its overall premium appearance and texture. The realme 14 Pro+ combines comfort, usability, and style. Its slim build and carefully designed ergonomic features make it a pleasure to handle, whether youre browsing, gaming, or using it for day-to-day tasks, all while providing a premium feel in hand.PerformanceThe realme 14 Pro+ is not just a visual marvel; it also excels in delivering class-leading performance that caters to both everyday users and tech enthusiasts. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, it offers smooth multitasking and responsive performance across apps, work tasks, and entertainment. It runs realme UI 6.0 based on Android 15 out of the box. To keep things cool during extended use, the handset features a 6,000mm 3D Vapor Chamber Cooling System, the largest in its class, which helps manage heat during intensive activities like gaming. The 14 Pro+ is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery, enhanced by realmes Flex Pack technology, offering 15% more capacity and up to 20% longer battery life than its predecessor, according to Realme. Combined with 80W wired fast charging, it ensures reliable all-day use and quick power recovery. The device has a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution (2800 x 1272) and a 120Hz refresh rate, providing clear and smooth visuals. With a peak brightness of 1500 nits, it performs well even in bright environments. The 14 Pro+ features a symmetrical quad-curved design, adding to its sleek look. Additionally, it incorporates 3840 PWM ultra-high-frequency dimming technology to reduce flicker and minimize eye strain during extended use.Main, 1xMain, 1xMain, 1x, Night ModeFor imaging, the realme 14 Pro+ brings incremental improvements in hardware. The primary camera is a 50MP Sony IMX 896 sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), featuring a 1/1.56-inch sensor and an f/1.8 aperture. This biodegradable material reduces environmental impact while being energy-efficient. With IP68, IP69, and IP65 ratings for dust and water resistance, along with TV Rheinland Rugged Smartphone Certification, the device is built for durability. This robust construction extends its lifespan, reducing the need for replacements and helping minimize electronic waste.ValueThe realme 14 Pro+ starts from approximately $325 USD for the 8GB/128GB variant. The 14 Pro+ positions itself as a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market, offering a compelling mix of performance, design, and sustainability at a competitive price point. The device offers a combination of high-end features, a symmetrical quad-curved display, a 120Hz AMOLED display, a periscope telephoto camera, a large VC cooling system, a 6,000mAh battery, all packed into a sleek, ergonomic design.VerdictThe realme 14 Pro+ is a standout in the mid-range smartphone segment, delivering a blend of innovative design, robust performance, and sustainability. • 2-in-1 lighting device serves as flashlight and reading lamp
    www.yankodesign.com
Any bookworm worth theirwell, bookhas probably experienced this at one point or another, probably when they were kids. Your parents or guardians have turned the lights off because its bedtime already. But you know you cant put your book down because you cant wait until morning to find out what happened. So you dive under the covers and use a flashlight to continue reading until the wee hours of the morning. Of course that doesnt do wonders for your eyesight, but whats a bookworm to do?Designer: Onurhan DemirGood thing we now have some solutions that can help bookworms out. Or at least, we have some concepts that can make it easier. This is a concept for a 2 in 1 lighting design. It is a rechargeable flashlight that can also become a reading lamp that you can use when you want to finish reading a book in the dark. Unlike regular flashlights which can be a bit inconvenient as youre holding a book and turning the page, this one makes it easier as you can clip it to your book. Hopefully the clip can also hold on to thick books, which some bookworms prefer reading sometimes. When in its flashlight mode, it looks like a regular flashlight with its spherical body. It seems a bit small though so I dont know if its something that can be used for a long time. When you want to use it as a reading lamp, you just flip open the clip underneath and then attach it to your book and continue reading even if you dont have the main lights on or if you dont have a desk reading lamp. The product renders show different colors like gray, white, and orange, with the gray one also having orange highlights. Again, we dont know how long the rechargeable light will last, so maybe your thick book will not be finished in one sitting. Now I dont know if the reading lamp function has something that will not damage your eyes so much, as this is still a concept. It would be nice to have that feature though, especially if theyre targeting readers. I mean, most heavy readers develop bad eyesight eventually, so tools like this should not exacerbate our already burdened eyes. But at least, this concept will help free our hands when holding a book, especially if were still reading under the covers. We will witness rich jewel tones like ruby reds, emerald greens, and sapphire blues becoming popular, adding a luxurious and opulent feel to homes. • mophies compact foldable 3-in-1 wireless charger is a travelers new best friend
    www.yankodesign.com
Its pretty impressive how much charger designs have changed thanks to the popularity of wireless charging, especially with the introduction of magnetic wireless charging technologies like MagSafe and Qi2. Freed not just from cables but even from horizontally flat surfaces, were seeing quite a few interesting designs, from ultra-minimalist metallic stands to nearly invisible wireless chargers embedded in furniture and marble countertops. With the exception of MagSafe power banks, however, most of these designs are meant to stay in one place only, perhaps even forever, as in the case of furniture. Travel chargers still mostly come in the wired type, mostly because of convenience, but also because very few have made the effort to think outside the box. With the new Global Edition of its 3-in-1 Travel Charging Station, mophie is trying to do just that, offering travelers, adventurers, and mobile workers the same charging convenience they enjoy at home anywhere they go.Designer: mophieThe days of thick and rigid wireless charging pads are thankfully over. To truly be travel-friendly, a charging station needs to be compact or at least foldable to a compact size. It shouldnt be a problem if you only need a single charger for a single device, but as many iPhone owners realize, they also often have an Apple Watch and a pair of AirPods with them as well. There is a growing number of foldable multi-device wireless charging stations in the market today, and mophie is adding a few twists to make its new design a bit more competitive. For one, unlike its existing 3-in-1 foldable traveling charger, the new mophie Global Edition has a trick that keeps the design even more compact and travel-worthy. Instead of a tri-fold design, it combines the AirPods case charger and the iPhone charger on the same side. The iPhone charger lifts up to reveal the surface for charging the AirPods underneath, but that mechanism has another advantage as well. Since the iPhone is at an angle, you have access to Standby mode, which is perfect when setting the charger on a hotels bedside table while you sleep. The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charging Station Global Edition isnt just travel-friendly because of its ultra-compact, foldable design. The product comes in a pouch that includes not only a 40W wall charger that will meet the needs of Apples trifecta of mobile devices but also different plug adapters so you wont have to scramble looking for the right one in whatever country youre in. Its definitely a thoughtful touch for a product thats meant to help reduce the stress of frequent travels. The post mophies compact foldable 3-in-1 wireless charger is a travelers new best friend first appeared on Yanko Design.

    www.yankodesign.com
Trophy off-road vehicles are powerful beasts with tons of torque and suspension systems crafted to bear the onslaught of the roughest terrain. Typically used for Baja 1000 or other endurance races, they can take on sand dunes, rocks and rough desert trails without breaking a sweat. The custom-built tubular frames and long-travel suspension system absorb the impacts of the rough terrain to handle anything from bumps jumps or uneven surfaces at high speed. Taking the stellar performance of a trophy off-roader and enhancing it with features like an in-built tent and added luxury for adventure trips is what the AMG HYPERVENTURE is about.Designer: H. David WillkeJust like a regular off-road trophy truck, this concept comes with a large V8 engine that can churn out a minimum of 500 and a maximum of 1000 horsepower over long distances. Keeping the overall body weight less is vital, so this modernized trophy truck uses lightweight yet robust body panel materials. The large heavy-duty tires for maximum off-road traction have very deep treads for superior grip on sand or rock trails. Wearing the signature AMG red and carbon gray colors, this Mercedes-branded off-roader radiates luxury in every aspect. Perhaps this has to be one of the most handsome off-road vehicles thatll charm itself into any adventure lovers garage.Since this truck is meant for adventure trips, the bed area is utilized to store the retractable rooftop tent and other essentials. On the inside, it is all about comfort and luxury redefined. The cockpit resembles a racing sportscar, especially with that yoke-styled steering wheel and reinforced racing seats. Unlike a racing trophy truck, this one is not reinforced with a 360 roll-cage frame. Still, there are safety measures in place including harness protectors, so that riders stay safe in the advent of an accident. The retractable seats ensure a maximized level of comfort after a long days drive in the Rockies. For the nights rest, the splittable tent ensures two people can safely sleep. AMG HYPERVENTURE is a well sought out design that fills the gap between a regular off-road truck and high-performance trophy trucks, to cater to the demanding needs of adventure seekers. The post AMG HYPERVENTURE off-road truck with concealed splitable tent is built for adventures unknown first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • An Impressive Sky Pool Links Two Dubai Towers, Creating A Distinctive Project In The Skyscraper City
    www.yankodesign.com
Foster + Partners recently designed a pair of attractive and eye-catching towers connected by an exclusive penthouse swimming pool at the top. This makes these towers truly exceptional and one-of-a-kind. Called Regent Residences Dubai, Sankari Place, the two skyscrapers will be built in Business Bay, near the upcoming Bugatti Residences. They will feature an equal height of 590 feet. The towers design is animated by the addition of protruding balconies and pools, which Foster + Partners envisions as creating a visual effect reminiscent of cascading water. The orientation of the buildings is strategically planned to offer optimal views of the Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world. However, the Burj Khalifa may soon lose its title, as the even taller JEC Tower is currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.Designer: Foster + PartnersThe skyscrapers will accommodate one large and spacious residence on each floor. The uppermost level will include an ultra penthouse suite that will generously spread over the two towers. This suite will be linked by the impressive sky pool. The pool will not be exposed to the elements, it will be protected by a bridge-like structure. Since Dubai has a pretty harsh climate, this enclosed plan is for the best. The unique pool is the star element of the project, showcasing something that we dont typically see. Dubai is known for its majestic skyscrapers and towers, but the addition of this sky swimming pool truly allows this project to stand apart from the crowd. The lower floors of the development will be a hub of luxury and leisure, featuring lush greenery and tranquil water features that create an inviting atmosphere. Residents and guests will have access to private dining spaces, offering exclusive culinary experiences, as well as a state-of-the-art gym for fitness enthusiasts. Multiple swimming pools will provide ample opportunities for relaxation and recreation. Retail units will be integrated into this section, creating a vibrant shopping experience. The Regent Residences Dubai, Sankari Place, is a prestigious and luxurious project being developed by Sankari Properties in collaboration with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Specific details regarding the completion date and pricing of the residences have yet to be announced, but it is quite evident that the homes are targetted towards the high-end market. They arent designed to be budget-friendly starter homes, but are premium and sophisticated living spaces for buyers seeking elegance and exclusivity. The post An Impressive Sky Pool Links Two Dubai Towers, Creating A Distinctive Project In The Skyscraper City first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Buying your first ANC Headphones? The $60 Belkin Soundform Isolate is the Perfect Entry-point Pick
    www.yankodesign.com
Noise-canceling headphones have long been synonymous with premium pricing, where features like ANC are reserved for those willing to part with a significant chunk of their paycheck. But Belkin, a brand better known for practical chargers and laptop accessories, has decided to disrupt this norm. Theyve entered the audio scene with the Soundform Isolate, a pair of headphones that challenge the idea that quality must always come at a cost. We met Belkin at IFA where they showcased the Soundform Isolate the company spoke about how entering a new industry as an established brand was difficult so the best way to disrupt the space was to disrupt pricing.Belkin has been a trusted name in tech accessories for years, but with the Soundform Isolate, theyre stepping into the competitive world of noise-canceling headphones. Priced at just $60, these headphones aim to provide the essentials of active noise cancellation (ANC) without the sticker shock of high-end models. Whats the catch? Well, there really isnt one, given that Belkins primary aim is to establish its name in the audio space. The headphones are well-designed, work exactly as advertised, have an impressive battery, and a price tag that should really make you wonder why the hell Apple charges upwards of $400 for a pair of ANC headphones.Designer: BelkinRight away, the Soundform Isolate stands out for its clean, no-frills vibe. Offered in understated shades of sand or black, it folds up neatlya travelers delight. The CloudCushion earcups, aptly named, feel like a soft retreat for your ears, especially if youve endured stiff or uncomfortable headsets in the past. Comfort here is an integral part of the design DNA, making long hours of wear remarkably pleasant.Battery life? Lets just say it goes the distance. Flip on ANC, and youre set for 40 hoursample time for marathon workdays or that endless backlog of podcasts. Turn off ANC, and the battery stretches to an astonishing 60 hours. Thats endurance that punches well above its price. A handy transparency mode is also in the mix, keeping you connected to your surroundings without fumbling to take the headphones off.Whether youre fielding work calls or jumping into a Netflix binge, its all handled with ease thanks to Bluetooth 5.4, which ensuring smooth pairing and Multipoint letting you toggle between two devices seamlessly. Controls include a smart balance of touch gestures and good old physical buttons, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best. For those who still enjoy the occasional wired experience, the Soundform Isolate has a few tricks (or wires) up its sleeve. It ships with both a USB-C to USB-C cable for digital audio and charging, and a trusty 3.5mm analog cable. If that wasnt enough of a pleasant surprise for a $60 headphone, the device also comes with a built-in relaxation track of ocean waves. Its an unexpected but delightful feature, perfect for a quick mental escape in the middle of a chaotic day. With the Soundform Isolate, its clear that Belkins goal was to strike a balance between affordability and functionality. These headphones wont wow hardcore audiophiles, but thats not the point. Instead, they provide a straightforward, comfortable, and feature-rich experience that caters to everyday users. Whether youre diving into your favorite playlist, catching up on podcasts, or simply enjoying some peace and quiet, the Soundform Isolate delivers a solid performance without overcomplicating things. And at the same price as an Uber to the airport, this headphone is definitely a no-nonsense recommendation. The post Buying your first ANC Headphones? • Rechargeable paper batteries promise safe, flexible, and compostable power
    www.yankodesign.com
Many of our electronics today rely on batteries, from laptops to phones to smart home appliances to even cars. Its almost ironic, then, that these critical batteries are also one of the most dangerous things we keep near our bodies, not to mention a hazard to the health of the planet as well. From the way they are made to the unsustainable metals and chemicals they contain, batteries, by nature, seem opposed to life itself.Green energy like solar and wind can go only as far as recharging batteries, but we still need these volatile objects to power devices directly. This innovative battery, however, attempts to reinvent batteries from the ground up to provide true sustainable power to the point that they can even be broken down as compost. Even more intriguing, theyre made of materials youd least expect to find in batteries: paper and water.Designer: FlintTechnically speaking, the batteries arent made of the same kind of paper you write on or read from. It actually uses cellulose as the structural backbone and separator of the battery, an abundant material derived from plants and also used in paper, hence the name. As for water, its used as the foundation for the electrolytes that actually carry the electrical flow between the zinc-based anode and the manganese-based cathode, both of which are non-reactive, safe, and commonly found everywhere. This unusual composition for a battery yields many benefits beyond simply being made of sustainable materials. For one, the battery has unbelievable resilience and can still output power even when cut in half, let alone not explode in your pocket when punctured. Its also impervious to fire since it uses water-based electrolytes. This practically removes the need for those fancy but complicated and expensive cooling systems in phones and laptops, presuming they get used in those devices. The batteries can also be folded and bent safely, finally realizing the dream of flexible batteries. The Flint Paper Batteries are advertised to have the same performance in terms of output and longevity as typical toxic rechargeable batteries. And yes, theyre rechargeable as well. They wont live forever, though, and when theyve finally lost their charge for good, simply removing the vacuum-sealed casing starts the natural degradation process that breaks them down into harmless components. It all sounds idyllic but the technology is not completely ready for mass consumption just yet. One of the biggest hurdles that still needs to be overcome is mass production, and Flints creators are planning on using currently existing lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes in order to minimize production and adoption costs. When that happens, we could finally take a major step forward in running not only on green power but also on safe and recyclable batteries as well. The post Rechargeable paper batteries promise safe, flexible, and compostable power first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Modular wireless earbuds concept has a case that makes removing earbuds easy
    www.yankodesign.com
Thanks to Apple, popping earbuds in and out of their charging cases almost feels natural these days. That doesnt mean theyre convenient or easy, especially when you have to actually open the case first to get the earbuds out. It shouldnt be that hard, but convention isnt always on the side of common sense, especially when sticking to the norm is more cost-effective.This concept design for a pair of modular wireless earbuds tries to challenge the status quo on many levels. It tries to create an ecosystem that goes beyond just playing audio in your ears, resulting in a few features that are, admittedly, a bit peculiar. Curiously, one of the most interesting parts of its design isnt actually the modules but is instead its equally unconventional charging case.Designer: Dongkyun KimYes, the charging case, which is actually a lot larger than your typical design, still has a cover that you open up to reveal its contents. In fact, it might even be weirder than most charging cases because the cover opens down like a drawbridge. That doesnt matter much, though, because you dont even need to open it to access the earbuds. There are openings on each side that allow you to take them out and put them back in without opening the case at all.Its becoming more common for TWS earbud cases to have screens of their own to display important stats, and the Orbit concept is no different. Where it differs is that the screen is so small to avoid being distracting, though it also raises the question of whether it will be readable at all. Its just a minor convenience anyway, something to add some flavor to the already intriguing design.Created using Luxion Technology (luxion.com)Created using Luxion Technology (luxion.com)Of course, the real meat of the Orbit design concept is its modularity and the modules it comes with out of the box, or rather out of the charging case. Theres a cog-shaped wheel, for example, that magnetically latches onto one of the earbuds to add some tactile feedback for more precise and satisfying controls. Presuming there will be other products in the Orbit ecosystem, this wheel could also be a controller for those. The camera modules are a bit of an odd feature. Theyre supposed to improve motion tracking and spatial awareness, though that could also raise privacy concerns. It could be used to take photos or record videos that are sent to a paired smartphone in a way that looks almost natural because of their proximity to your eyes. Given their size, however, they might not be that capable of recording important memories. The wireless earbuds themselves have a rather unusual design. In addition to adopting an open-ear technology, the buds are meant to clip to the sides of the ear, which could be uncomfortable and unstable. Indeed, the concept has quite a few interesting ideas that go beyond the actual purpose of the earbuds, but its really the case that could be considered to be its selling point. The post Modular wireless earbuds concept has a case that makes removing earbuds easy first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Official: The Handheld That Restarted It All Has Grown Up
    www.yankodesign.com
Although handheld gaming devices have existed since the earliest days of the Game Boy, the recent craze can probably be attributed to the unprecedented and unexpected success of the Nintendo Switch. More than just portability, it offered flexibility in gameplay, especially with its innovative removable Joy-con controllers. Although it continues to be a successful product, the almost eight-year-old device has started showing its age.In typical Nintendo fashion, it has taken years for a successor to arrive, but the wait is finally over. After no small amount of clamor and a few leaks and false leads, the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been confirmed to be coming this year. And while the teaser video is light on the details, there is definitely enough for fans to chew on until the official reveal in April.Designer: NintendoRight off the bat, Nintendo wants to make it clear that the Nintendo Switch 2, which is its official name, is bigger than the OG Switch. You will, however, also notice a complete switch (pun intended) in color schemes. While the first Nintendo Switch drew your attention to its Blue and Red Joy-cons, the Switch 2 carries an almost completely black color scheme, with the other hues acting only as highlights on the controllers. To some extent, this makes it match the predominantly black aesthetic on handheld gaming PCs these days, though Switch 2 owners will most likely apply skins anyway. There are, of course, even bigger changes all around, starting with, at long last, a second USB-C port at the top of the device, hopefully saying goodbye to awkward charging positions and hello to more accessories. The flimsy bar-style kickstand has also been replaced by a wide U-shaped design, giving not only more stability but also more angles. You can finally lay the Switch 2 almost flat on a table, for whatever reason you might want to.The Joy-cons also undergo a significant change beyond the increase in size. Gone is the rail mechanism that gave the Nintendo Switch its iconic snapping sound, replaced by hopefully more reliable magnets with a matching snapping sound. The dock has also been given a facelift with rounded corners and a matte finish. All in all, the Nintendo Switch 2 exudes a more mature character than its predecessor, though its not clear how that will appeal to those who prefer Nintendos Fisher Price aesthetics.Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is silent on the internals, so its still anyones guess how much more powerful the Switch 2 will be. Dont hold your breath that it will go head-to-head with handheld PCs or even current-gen consoles, though. That just isnt Nintendos style. Especially since Nintendo is promising compatibility with some, but not all, first-gen Switch games. More details will be revealed in the companys Direct stream on April 2, but it looks like the launch title has already been decided to be Mario Kart. The post Nintendo Switch 2 Official: The Handheld That Restarted It All Has Grown Up first appeared on Yanko Design.

By 2025, architects and designers are expected to push the boundaries of innovation, sustainability, and technology. They are being tasked with the responsibility to reimagine the built environment to meet the needs of a changing world.Certain trends are rising to the spotlight, showcasing technological advancement and the growing awareness and consideration of the environment. We have explored the top five architectural trends that are set to define the future, offering insights and examples of how these trends are shaping the built environment. Dive in and prepare for the future!1. Sustainable & Eco-friendly DesignSustainability and consideration for the environment are no longer peripheral or something that can be sidelined. It is currently at the core of architectural innovation, driving forward design styles and languages. Architects have been forced to focus on climate change and environmental degradation, as these issues can no longer be ignored. It has propelled them to prioritize eco-friendly practices. This trend involves the use of renewable materials, energy-efficient systems, and designs that minimize environmental impact throughout a buildings lifecycle.Green SpineThe ambitious Green Spine project by the architectural firm URB is set to transform Dubais landscape into a lush and sustainable oasis. This visionary initiative aligns with the proposals for the Dubai Mangroves and Dubai Reefs projects, aiming to enhance urban green spaces and promote ecological balance in the region.Stretching over 64 kilometers, the Green Spine will serve as a verdant highway, centered around the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. This transformation is not merely aesthetic, it is designed to integrate nature into the urban infrastructure, providing ecological, social, and economic benefits. The corridor will feature park areas, urban farms, and more than a million trees, creating a continuous green belt that enhances biodiversity and offers recreational spaces for residents and visitors alike. What we likePrioritizes environmental sustainability by integrating a million trees.Enhances urban livability, and community well-being.What we dislikeInvolves high initial costs and maintenance. This could lead to significant disruptions in traffic and daily activities for residents and businesses in the area.2. Smart Buildings & Integration Of TechnologyThe advent and introduction of smart technology has revolutionized the way structures and buildings are designed and operated. Nowadays smart buildings are all the trend. They are being equipped and outfitted with interconnected systems that are designed to enhance energy efficiency, offer better security, and a more effortless user experience. The trend includes the use of various sensors, IoT devices, and AI to create responsive and interactive environments that will seamlessly adapt and adjust to the needs and requirements of residents.Pod StudioCalifornia-based Podform designed the worlds smartest tiny home called the Pod Studio. Biophilic Design & Nature-Inspired SpacesBiophilic design aims to reconnect people with nature, by adding and incorporating natural elements into architecture and buildings. This wholesome approach functions on the premise that humans have a natural connection with nature and that by surrounding or exposing themselves to natural elements their well-being, productivity, and creativity can be enhanced. In 2025 we will see a rise in biophilic or nature-inspired workplaces and offices, as such an environment will surely boost productivity and motivation among employees.1265 BorregasGoogle opened its first mass timber office building in Sunnyvale, California. Mass timber is a new type of engineered wood, and it involves small pieces of wood being layered and laminated together to create large beams and walls. This unique office supports an environment of support, focus, and collaboration. It is outfitted with neighborhood spaces that encourage hybrid connections. The new office demonstrates Googles priority to build nature-based or biophilic workspaces. Research indicates that individuals perform better when immersed in natural surroundings, and Google aims to harness this information by designing a new workspace that is both invigorating and inspiring. The office features exposed timber both inside and out, which not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also maximizes the influx of natural light, providing stunning views of the Northern California landscape. What we likeEco-friendly building that serves as a productive environment for employees. Will have 96% less carbon emissions than a traditional steel and concrete building of the same size. What we dislikeMass timber is combustible, and can burn quickly, making it a safety hazard.4. Adaptive Reuse & Modular ConstructionIn 2025, adaptive reuse and modular construction will make a strong appearance. The two approaches are intended to be sustainable and flexible building solutions. Adaptive reuse involves repurposing existing structures for new uses, and preserving historical and cultural value while reducing resource consumption. Modular construction, on the other hand, involves assembling prefabricated components on-site, offering speed, cost efficiency, and flexibility. These approaches cut down costs, make construction a more economical process, and support the reuse of preexisting structures and elements.St. Pauli BunkerOriginally known as Flakturm IV, the St. Pauli Bunker was constructed in 1942 by forced laborers. Designed with an official capacity for 18,000 people, it provided shelter for nearly 25,000 residents of Hamburg during the war. After the war, the Allies considered demolishing the structure but were unable to do so due to the bunkers thick walls and its central location. In the years after the war, the bunker was repurposed as a hub for art and culture, hosting music venues and events. Recently, a significant extension has been added to the bunker, supported by 16 steel pillars and weighing the equivalent of 60 Airbus A380 planes. This new addition raises the structures height from 35 meters to 58 meters above ground and includes five new floors that house a hotel, restaurant, caf, and social spaces, and is a wonderful specimen of adaptive reuse. What we likeEnriches the community by providing spaces for art, music, and social gatherings.Showcases the creative repurposing of a historic structure for modern use. What we dislikeThe extension modernizes the bunker but could raise concerns about preserving the historical integrity of the original structure.5. Urban Resilience & Climate AdaptationClimate change is posing an avalanche of threats, and architects are now focusing on urban resilience and climate adaptation in their architectural designs. This trend will involve the creation of structures that can handle extreme weather conditions, and adapt to the evolving environmental conditions. They will integrate resilient materials and innovative technology, thereby improving the safety and longevity of urban communities. The buildings will be able to withstand floods, heatwaves, storms, and earthquakes, and will also include green roofs and permeable pavements to reduce heat and manage stormwater.Mori JP TowerDesigned by Pelli Clarke & Partners, the Mori JP Tower has become Japans tallest skyscraper, reaching an impressive height of 1,066 feet in Tokyo. This architectural marvel is not only a symbol of urban sophistication but also a testament to sustainable design, as it focuses on reducing reliance on grid-based energy. In a country prone to seismic activity, the towers earthquake-resistant design is extremely important. It is engineered to withstand earthquakes as powerful as the Great East Japan Earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 9.0. This remarkable feat enhances safety, potentially saving lives and minimizing destruction during seismic events. It includes structural steel tubes, which are filled with high-strength concrete, and multiple dampers that help absorb and dissipate seismic energy. What we likeCan withstand significant seismic events.Integrates sustainability features aimed at reducing grid-based energy usage. What we dislikeThe systems and materials may require specialized maintenance. The post Architectural Trends To Watch In 2025: Biophilic Design, Adaptive Reuse & More first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Nokia Design Archive opens as Nokia phones start to disappear
    www.yankodesign.com
Although Apple and Samsung are household names when it comes to smartphones these days, there was a time when they were virtually unheard of in the mobile space. Back when mobile phones were less smart, Nokia flooded the market with a variety of designs, some of which have stood the test of time, as proven by recent revivals, while others may have been far too ahead of their time. Still, others were just plain bonkers but still left quite an impression on peoples minds. The Finnish company no longer makes phones, of course, but its legacy lives on in more ways than one. Fortunately, the Nokia Design Archive is now open to the public, preserving and sharing not just the companys historical products but also its design processes and strategies, not to mention a few ideas that never came to light. Ironically, this comes at a time when Nokia-branded smartphones are starting to disappear, making this memorial to its legacy even more poignant.Designer: Nokia, Aalto UniversityFrom the sturdy 5110 to the well-loved 3210, from the 5310 XpressMusic to the 8110 banana phone,, Nokias history is definitely a colorful one from a design perspective. Yes, some of the phone designs it actually launched boggle the mind and, in some cases, even offend design sensibilities, but one cant accuse the brand of playing it safe and sticking to lucrative and overused formulas. Then again, times were very different back then, and so were peoples tastes and needs. With Nokia formally done with the mobile phone space, that history would have been completely lost if not for this highly detailed and interactive museum of everything Nokia. The site generously provides not only photos of phones that were or could have been but also sketches, presentations, videos, and documents that narrated Nokias design story that spanned decades. Admittedly, navigating the sites interactive graph UI is a bit cumbersome, but it also gives the experience a bit of a treasure-hunting flavor. Its definitely a treasure trove of ideas and illustrations, from concepts of the then futuristic 3G network to a shape-changing device that would still be very interesting today. It makes one wonder what could have been had Nokia stayed in the game. Alas, the modern smartphone world has not been kind to old giants, and it seems that Nokias history in mobile is finally coming to a close once and for all.Although it has licensed its name to HMD Global to make Nokia-branded phones, both smart and dumb, that might be ending soon as well. HMD seems to be removing Nokia smartphones from its online stores, and the remaining feature phones bearing that name might soon be on the way out as well. Its only fitting, then, that the Nokia Design Archive finally opens its doors as Nokia itself closes the final chapter of its mobile history book. The post Nokia Design Archive opens as Nokia phones start to disappear first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Kombucha by-product used to create leather for traditional shadow puppet exhibit
    www.yankodesign.com
People either really love or really hate kombucha, depending on how you feel about its unusual tart taste. One of the by-products of the industry is SCOBY or symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, which is actually the starter culture that brews this fermented drink. But the material can also be used to make other things and these designers had a pretty interesting way of using this biomaterial for another context.Designers: Nishtha Luhadia, Aditi ShindeLuminous Lore is an installation that shows off Tholu Bommalata, a shadow puppet theatre tradition of the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. But instead of the usual materials used to create the puppets, normally goat, deer, or buffalo hide, it uses leather made from fermenting tea, sugar, water, vinegar, and of course SCOBY. The leather forms a large Tholu Bommalata inspired lamp and the play of light on the surface helps tell the story and the audience is engaged on a sensory level. The hand-painted illustrations on the lamp also tells the story of how the SCOBY leather came to be. This is not just something you watch though as the audience is invited to touch and feel it. The designers hope that the success and interest in the exhibit could pave the way for more biomaterials to be used in other projects and products in the industrial design world. With the way that this biomaterial can be grown in any size and shape just by adding some other ingredients, the future is bright. • Extra spacious RV for six has a transformational bunk that converts into an office space
    www.yankodesign.com
RVs cater to many needs depending on the outdoorsy lifestyle you prefer, and theres one for every adventure seeker. However, only a handful of trailers can be on the A list of almost every enthusiast. Meet the Aucta Sycamore camping trailer by inTech who have a tenacity for making spacious and rugged trailers for big families. Superseeding Luna and Sol, this one is the biggest of them all and it looks like an extraterritorial teardrop from Men in Black, to be honest.Derived from the Latin name Aucta, meaning enlarged or abundant this dual axle trailer stays true to its name in every aspect. The trailer has a spanning front window for panoramic views, ideal for people who love the basking sunshine all day long. Sycamore impresses with a rear bunk room that has enough bed space for two to sleep. During the daytime, this section doubles as an office space, cargo closet, and bunkhouse retreat for the kids. The transformation is done as the bunk bed rises up and slides back in to create seating. This makes the trailer ideal for vacation trips that require logging in some hours of work time.Designer: inTechThe RV has a master bedroom at the far end with a queen bed that has enough adjacent space for nightstands on either side. Storage space takes precedence as there are dedicated sections overhead, under the bed, and in a closet. There is another bedroom at the other end, leaving the center area to be used as a multipurpose space. On one side is the fully equipped kitchen having a dual-burner cooktop, a convection microwave oven, a farmhouse sink, and a standing-height refrigerator. The other side has a sofa with a movable table (also functions as a coffee table when needed) and a slide-out footrest to create a dining section. The table can be raised to create a workspace area, and the sofa can be configured as a makeshift bed for two at night. There is more, as the hideaway 40-inch TV slides out to turn this section into an entertainment hub. A four-way speaker system ensures the kids have a darn good time watching their favorite movies. Sycamore has a hidden dry bathroom in the rear corner of the bunk office. It comes with a shower, a basin floor, and a door to seal the steam during bathing. Sometimes, the tools we use tell as much of a story as the work we create with them. A pen might seem basic in a world dominated by keyboards and touchscreens, but when its designed with precision and purpose, it reminds you why physical tools still matter. The TWYST Ballpoint Pen isnt trying to compete with modern techits here to complement it, giving form to thoughts that deserve to be more than fleeting pixels on a screen. What sets TWYST apart isnt just its materials or designits the way it fits into your workflow without fanfare. Over time, the metal develops a unique patina, creating a one-of-a-kind signature for its user. Its a design choice that speaks to a love for the enduringa reflection of its creators belief in blending timeless aesthetics with utility. But its not just coppers character that makes the TWYST pen stand out. Brass, another noble metal and an additional TWYST variant, adds strength and elegance. Together, these materials bring a certain gravitas to the pen, given that they have a gorgeous bronze-rose color, and that theyre heavier than the more commonplace stainless steel. The pens antibacterial properties add a practical edge, while the balance of weight in hand reminds you that simplicity often carries the most significance. As for its design, every detail has been meticulously thought through. The octagonal geometry ensures a natural grip, whether youre jotting down quick notes or penning something profound. The smooth twist mechanism feels intuitive, a reflection of the craftsmanship behind it. The Schmidt Technology refill housed within ensures every stroke glides across the page with precision.. Simple, and sophisticated. Thats all.The materials are fully recyclable, with no plastic components in sight. The pens are designed to practically last forever, because thats what craftsmanship was like back in the day. No planned obsolescence, no single-use culture. Just a good old-fashioned fusion of design, engineering, and intent. The pens measure a little over 5.1 inches, sport that gorgeous octagonal body which is great to grip and prevents rolling. There is, however, a palpable lack of a pocket clip, although in my opinion that would ruin the TWYSTs silhouette. The TWYST pen was built for those who see beauty in simplicity and power in details. When the weight of the pen aligns with your thoughts, and the copper warms to your touch, it doesnt feel like a tool anymore. It feels like an extension of who you are and what you create. • This Designer Has A Wild Idea To Make Tech Companies Great Again Tech Trading Cards
    www.yankodesign.com
Tech isnt boring. At least, it shouldnt be. Were living in a world where pocket-sized wonders connect us to everything humanity has ever created, yet unboxing these marvels can feel like opening a pack of bland stationery. Unboxing videos which were once the highlight of every tech youtubers career is now practically an afterthought. Why? Companies have ruined unboxing experiences to prioritize profits. Youd get chargers, earphones, cases, screen protectors, and sometimes even brand stickers (looking at you, Apple) inside smartphone boxes. Now, merely a phone and if youre lucky, a braided cable. Designer Andrea Copellino has a solution to fix this problem Bring back excitement, curiosity, and storytelling to technology using trading cards. Yes, trading cards. And its not as random as it sounds. Its the perfect intersection of nostalgia, storytelling, and fun.Designer: Andrea CopellinoTo demonstrate this, Copellino chooses tech startup Nothing to demonstrate this idea. Nothing, a tech brand with a quirky ethos of transparency and an obsession with reintroducing joy into technology, is exactly the kind of company that could pull this off. Their design language already reads like a conversation with an old friend: clear materials that show the guts of the product, a marketing team that doesnt mind poking fun at itself, and a YouTube channel where their designers casually break down creative decisions. Its approachable and refreshingly human. But Francesco and his collaborator Francesco (yes, another Francesco), think the brand could do even more. They believe Nothings biggest untapped potential is right there in the unboxing experience. Now, unboxing isnt typically a topic that gets pulses racing, but its where Francescos storytelling brilliance shines. Hes reimagining unboxing as a chance to weave narrative into the very first interaction you have with a product. Instead of the usual manuals and filler paper, Francesco envisions collectible trading cards tucked into Nothings products. Imagine this: you open your new earbuds, and alongside them is a sleek card adorned with abstract art that hints at the products creative inspiration. Flip it over, and theres a short story about the quirky origins of the designlike how pharmaceutical packaging inspired the bubble-like Ear (A) case. These cards arent just gimmicks. Theyre thoughtfully crafted artifacts. Each card would feature high-quality illustrations, metadata like product names and release dates, and captivating anecdotes. Even the cards material and packaging echo Nothings aesthetic: semi-transparent paper, subtle textures, and a pierced detail that nods to their love for transparency. The goal isnt just to inform but to delight. Its tactile, personal, andmost importantlymemorable. And the brilliance of this idea? Its collectible. Francescos design aligns perfectly with how Nothing already connects with its audience. The company actively invites its community to participate in its creative process, from forums to YouTube comment sections. These cards could take that engagement to the next level. Imagine Nothing hosting design contests where fans create illustrations for the cards or special edition collectibles handed out at launch events. Its a way to keep the community invested without the logistical nightmares of overly ambitious projects like Nothings Community Edition Phone. But Francescos concept goes even deeper. Trading cards tap into something bigger than tech; they tap into culture. Millennials and Gen Z grew up with Pokmon cards, Magic: The Gathering, and other collectible phenomena. The resurgence of physical trading cards, fueled by their nostalgic and tactile appeal, isnt slowing down. Francesco sees these cards as an opportunity to blend Nothings bold industrial design with the emotional pull of cherished childhood memories. Its a way to bridge the cold utility of tech with the warmth of human experience. And its practical too. The cards dont rely on apps, servers, or any digital infrastructuretheyre yours forever. No subscriptions. No updates. Just a simple piece of art and story that fits perfectly in your hand (or a Pokmon binder, for those inclined). Even better, theyre scalable. Every Nothing device could come with a unique card, offering a new piece of the brands story to collectors with each purchase. Its an idea that feels premium but doesnt break the bank. The most exciting part? This idea could redefine how we think about unboxing. Instead of it being an afterthought, it becomes an eventa chance to connect with the product and its creators on a deeper level. Francescos trading cards arent about adding unnecessary fluff; theyre about reminding us that technology isnt just functional. Its personal. It has stories, quirks, and, thanks to Nothing, a sense of humor.Nothings ethos is rooted in challenging conventions, and Francescos trading card concept feels like an extension of that mission. Its a bold, fun, and slightly eccentric idea that fits seamlessly into their brand DNA. It would be fun if Nothing entertained the concept theres really little to lose given how simple the execution is with something as basic as a trading card. At least itll revive the unboxing experience, turning it into something that has a little touch of intrigue and suspense and everyone loves a little suspense, right? The post This Designer Has A Wild Idea To Make Tech Companies Great Again Tech Trading Cards first appeared on Yanko Design.
