My initial experience with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on launch day was filled with frustration and disappointment. If you were amongst the unfortunate ones that tried to play the game on day one, you would have been most likely greeted with excruciatingly long loading times and freezes. Fans and new players alike were frustrated with Microsofts inability to handle their servers, especially for a game that requires you to be constantly connected to the internet. Microsoft was quick to tackle the issues head on and by the next day, I was able to access the game without too much trouble.However, at the time of writing this review, there are reports that some players have not been able to undertake even a single flight. Even if they managed to get on an aircraft, their flight experience has been slaughtered by audio issues, uneven textures and character models sticking out of the aircrafts roof. You dont believe me? Just take a look at the various gaming forums and you can treat yourself with absurd glitches and bugs. The developers are looking into procuring bigger server capacity but for a game that is dependent on cloud, why wasnt the system put in place earlier? Could they have used their prior experience with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 to ensure a smoother takeoff? Perhaps?"Aircraft models, too, have also seen a noticeable bump not only in visual quality but also in its support for various physics parameters resulting into a more realistic flying experience."Fortunately for me, I was able to get a lot of flight time without facing much trouble or glitches. And when Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 works, its an experience like none another. There is some weird satisfaction in piloting an aircraft over the serene scenes of the Golden Gate Straight or looking at Mount Everest through the window of aircrafts cockpit. Once my aircraft hit cruise speed, I found myself looking at the beautiful vistas, the tall Pine trees, or the rushing current below, as my aircraft made its way through the clouds.The level of detail could be downright outstanding at times, almost bordering real-life visuals. You can also get out of the aircraft and walk in specific biomes and grasp in all the visual goodness. However, it must be noted that not all the objects and architecture are detailed. Given that most of the world details are being pulled from the cloud, missing data and textures might be the norm unless the Asobo fixes the server optimization issues.Aircraft models, too, have also seen a noticeable bump not only in visual quality but also in its support for various physics parameters resulting into a more realistic flying experience. However, for a more in-depth flying experience you are expected to have a certain level of knowledge about aircraft which could be deal breaker for those who are not familiar with this field. Dont get me wrong. Casual players can get into the game just fine, but it will require a lot of learning, patience, trial and error to get a grip on the simulators different gameplay mechanics."Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 features an extensive career mode where you take on a multitude of tasks. If you manage to complete them, you will be awarded with grades and credits."Flight Simulator 2024 begins with a bit of a surprise: a rather in-depth customization system wherein you can select all sorts of options for your character. Be it the headwear, eyewear, tops, legwear, footwear, body type, voice or your co-pilots appearance, a lot can be customized. This customization doesnt impact gameplay in any way, but it is always pleasant to have more options. However, I would love to see Asobo use a traits-based system in the future that could actually define pilot characteristics and thereby create an impact in the way they fly.Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 features an extensive career mode where you take on a multitude of tasks. Besides the Free Flight mode, the career mode is where you will be spending most of your time with Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 and its absolutely worth it.There is also a challenge mode which will likely refresh every week and some of them are brutally difficult. The journey through Grand Canyon like a speeding bullet was specially demanding and I have no qualms in admitting that I was rather underwhelming there. Other challenges like Precision Landing are fun filled scenarios where you need to pull off difficult landing feats like on a hilltop. Then there is the stunning Photographer mode which allows you to not only take photos of some truly stunning locations but also complete objectives in a way that complements the photo. For example, while taking a photo you must ensure that the moon or the Tokyo Tower must be in the frame. Completing these tasks is a lot of fun although admittedly may be challenging for some players."With the in-depth career mode, the addictive Photographer mode and Challenges, the game obviously has plenty to offer."I reviewed Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on a Ryzen 5950x, RTX 3080 Ti and 32 GB of memory. I set almost everything to Ultra with DLSS on Quality mode at 4K resolution. My PC was able to extract decent performance with frame rates largely ranging from 30 to 45 frames per second depending how intense a specific scene was. However, the game suffers from occasional stutters.So, one moment I have everything running okay at 30 fps and then all of a sudden, the game will miss a frame resulting into an uneven experience. Even loading in and out a map is abrupt, making me feel that the game is about to crash. Whether these issues are related to my hardware, or a server-side issue is something that is not clear. Regardless, optimization patches are needed to make the experience smoother. Out of curiosity, I also briefly played the game on an Xbox Series X and I found the frame rate to be largely stable compared to my PC build. In fact, it had less issues loading in and out of map resulting into a smoother experience.I quite enjoyed my time with Microsoft Flight Simulator 24. With the in-depth career mode, the addictive Photographer mode and Challenges, the game obviously has plenty to offer. However, at the same time, the various tech issues are something that needs to be addressed. There is an ongoing debate on whether all of the games assets should be available as a download instead of using the cloud to stream most of the in-game assets. On paper, this may sound like an ideal solution, but its implementation may require Asobo and Microsoft to make drastic changes to the engines framework. Regardless, Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 comes off as a recommended product but is in desperate need of optimization.This game was reviewed on PC.

However, that also makes it extremely overwhelming to those brand new to the game. With all the systems available, it can be intimidating to step in and try (even if its available on Game Pass).Not to worry though, as the experience offers a wide variety of options to ease you in. Here are ten things you should remember when first playing, whether your virtual flying career is taking off or youre a revisiting the series after a long time.Patience and TimeIts obvious enough for anyone whos played the previous games, but youll want to take your time with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. There are a lot of systems to spend time and become comfortable with, so avoid rushing through it all. Youll also need quite a bit of patience because not only does each aircraft perform differently, but there are various conditions less than peaceful weather, different runways, unique objectives, and so on that will take some practice to figure out.TutorialsIn the Main Menu, youll see something called Free Flight, which lets you start flying anywhere on the Earth right from the outset. Though a great way to jump into the experience and customize various conditions like time of day, air traffic visibility and whatnot, its ill-advised for new players. Youll want to spend as much as possible with the tutorials since theyll go over everything you need to know about the game. Practice makes perfect, but knowing how to take off from a runaway and land safely is a good place to start.Customize Your ControlsMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2024 allows for full customization of controls, with options to freely remap as per your needs, whether youre using a mouse and keyboard, controller, or flight stick (which well discuss more later). Once youre comfortable with all the different functions the game offers, especially the most common ones, customize and remap per your preference for a more comfortable experience. It can go a long way to making your sim experience that much easier.Enable AssistancesOf course, there are also an extensive number of assists available. Head into the settings and navigate to the Assistances tab to enable assistance for everything whether its Auto-Rudder, Assisted Yoke, Controller Sensitivity the list goes on. There are also options to display the active waypoint marker, flight path, taxi ribbon and notifications for piloting and controls to make things that much easier on your first flight. And if youre finding things to be too unforgiving, turn off various damages caused by crashing, aircraft stress, engine stress, and so on. You can also enable unlimited fuel and reduce turbulence and G-Effects.Stick to the CockpitYou can view the world of Flight Simulator from multiple perspectives, but its often best to stick to the cockpit when starting. Aside from admiring the sheer attention to detail of all the instruments, it also offers a better understanding of what its like to fly certain aircraft. For those keen on exploring environmental beauty, there are plenty of other ways besides the external camera, like World Photographer Mode, which lets you step out of the aircraft and explore environments on foot.Customize Camera, Realism, Flight Interface, and MoreOutside of assists and controls, there are several other functions to customize in the settings, including the zoom function, the smart camera, focus mode, and more. You can adjust these to a fairly detailed extent, like adjusting height, horizontal position, zoom speed, and free look speed of the cockpit camera, how youd like to view instruments, the Flight Model, etc. Adjust how realistic everything should be right down to the crash realism and torque, or strip out various things from the flight interface like city markers, airport markers, preflight pins, and so on. Its ultimately up to you, so play around for the best set-up.Career Mode and Unlocking SpecializationsAfter completing the tutorials, Career Mode is a great place to start grinding out those skills. When you begin, you must choose a starting location, and after finishing up the initial test flight, you receive a Private Pilot License for airplanes. From there, its necessary to complete more missions to level up and unlock more licenses for specializations. Level 8 is when Skydive Aviation and this is where things start to become more complex, as it offers multiple conditions to access alongside the required license (like a landing smoothness above 50 percent in three Airplane missions).There are also licenses and specializations for rotorcraft required to access activities like Search and Rescue, Aerial Construction, and more. Go through and unlock everything at your own pace. Each activity not only provides different challenges outside the usual landing and take-off but also familiarizes you with multiple aircraft types. Pay attention to the Aviator Performances tab in the mission completion screen to pick up on areas that require improvement (like landing smoothness) and the most important mistakes you may have made (and to keep them in mind for future flights).Difficulty Rating for Career MissionsNot every mission in Career Mode is the same. Some are obviously more demanding than others and can be a lot more arduous to complete. Fortunately, theres a difficulty rating next to each mission to indicate their challenge level. Higher-rated missions will have conditions like rough weather to navigate. If youre trying to get your feet wet without going overboard or participate in more relaxing conditions to complete objectives and unlock certain licenses, keep an eye on the difficulty rating and plan accordingly.Graphical OptionsIf the system requirements didnt clue you in, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 can be a very demanding game. Fortunately, there is a range of graphical options available to help boost performance, including adjusting the level of detail for terrain and objects, the quality of trees, plants, rocks, grass, and volumetric clouds, texture resolution and supersampling, and more. You can even adjust little things like windshield effects, glass cockpit refresh rate, character quality, and quality of air, road and sea traffic. Once again, experiment with the settings that best suit your performance needs. Dont just rush in to set everything to Ultra quality.Recommended PeripheralsPlaying a flight sim, especially one as intricately detailed as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, demands a dedicated flight stick. There are several options available, including the T. Flight Hotas One Microsoft Flight Simulator Edition, which retails for $99.99 and features 14 buttons, five axes, a 10-bit precision joystick, and a rapid trigger. The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flightstick is also worth looking into, costing $129.99 and offering more extensive functionality with 27 buttons and a companion app to finetune everything from dead zone to RGB lighting. These are only a few options available, but theyll get you started at the very least.

Thecacera pennigera, also known as the winged thecacera, is a species of sea slug in the family Polyceridae. It has a cosmopolitan distribution, being found in temperate waters on either side of the North Atlantic Ocean, in the Mediterranean Sea, around South and West Africa, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Pakistan and more recently in Australia and New Zealand. There is a significant difference in colouring between Atlantic populations and Pacific specimens, however. Thecacera pennigera has a typical adult length between 15 millimetres (0.6in) and 30 millimetres (1.2in), featuring a short, wide head with two lateral flaps and two sheathed olfactory organs called rhinophores. The body is wedge shaped, being wide at the front and ending in a slender foot with a lateral keel on either side. The general colour of the body is translucent white and the upper side is covered with orange splotches and small black spots. Like other sea slugs, T. pennigera is a hermaphrodite with internal fertilisation and a mating mechanism whereby pairs of animals exchange packets of sperm.
