Minimalism Meets Luxury in This Modern Oasis
Simplicity meets sophistication in this modern oasisdesigned by Artimitro Architects. The understated color palette conveys a sense of calm. But there are interesting accent features (including carefully chosen textures) that make sure is as visually appealing as it gets! Wed like to call this the design secret in the spacewhere less really is more. The living space and kitchen are tied together with dark wooden flooring. A modular tufted lounge sofain opulent black leathercreates a statement in the living area. This is paired with the smart use of texture through the grid-patterned tile on the wall. The kitchen features black leather bar stools next to the island as well as sleek black cabinetry. A punch of blue behind the sink really brings the space to life! The chequered rug sets an interesting base in this bedroom. This is complemented by a simple bedwith a luxurious marble headboard. The minimalist floating nightstands are stunning but also help the room appear more open. Finally, the dark wall behind the bed with a glass partition adds some drama to the space. This bedroom features a minimalist bed frame and a single floating nightstand, which adds a sense of asymmetry. The glass wardrobe adds openness to the room. We also see a modern workstation set up right next to the windowand a huge potted plant! The stand-out feature in this bathroom is the illuminated pedestal sink. The minimalist fixtures and marble flooring keep things sophisticated. Were huge fans of the textured marble wall panels in this bathroom. They add luxury, sure, but they also have a unique finish. The matte black freestanding tub and built-in basin add some bold color. The tub and vanity are both wall-mountedfreeing up floorspace in this small room.

Apple has crossed a line with iMovie ads
MacworldThe other night I decided to work on some home videos while watching TV. I launched iMovie on my Mac and on the Projects screen, I saw something I had not seen before: a banner ad, like the ones you see on this site. This ad was for Apples Final Cut Pro.I sat there for a moment, staring at the adI wasnt considering Apples recommendation, I was considering the imposition of the ad. You know that feeling when someones at your front door and you open it and immediately realize that a pitch you dont want to hear is coming? That feeling.Apple placing ads in its software isnt a new thing. The App Store has had them for years, and promotions appear before every Apple TV+ show and the TV app (not to mention the forced feeling of Apple product placement in its TV+ shows, but thats a different topic). A recent Axios report says that Apple has started selling its own ads in Apple News as well. Some may find the ads in these apps and services annoying, but those particular adverts dont bother me that much because the apps they appear in involve commerce of some type. Im buying an app, a show, news, and information, so pitching me on other products doesnt seem out of place. The App Store has had ads for a while, but Apple seems to be taking advertising to another level.FoundryBut an ad in iMovie? Thats inappropriate. I understand Apples reasoning: Oh, hey, we noticed you use iMovie a lot, you can benefit from using Final Cut Pro, a much more robust tool. The ad is an attempt to be helpful to the user. The difference is that iMovies primary purpose is as a production tool and a free benefit for buying a Mac at that. When I launch iMovie, Pages, GarageBand, or Photos, Im in a mindset to get something done, tap into the creative side of my brain, and use these tools to see what I can make. That ad is disruptive, imposing, and uncomfortably shifts me out of my mindset. I wasnt even sure what to do with it. Do I click the X in the corner to close it, acknowledging to Apple that I saw the ad? Do I just ignore it and run the risk of it appearing again? I ended up quitting iMovie and launching it again (after taking the screenshot above) because I wanted to see if it would appear again. It didnt and hasnt. So far.Does this mean were going to soon see Logic Pro ads in GarageBand? (Maybe theyre already there and I havent encountered them yet.) A Final Cut Camera ad in the iPhones Camera app? A Pixelmator ad in Photos? Perhaps, you, the reader, are okay with this and find it useful, but what if that iMovie ad started to promote iCloud storage upgrades? Would you be okay with it then?Apple is always investing in new revenue streams and advertising is a major part of the push, so were going to keep seeing them. Thats fine so long as Apple is constantly considering the appropriateness of ad placement, unlike other big tech companies. Apples success is based on the belief that the user experience is the main priority, and it seems that this belief is going to be put to the test. Hopefully, it will prevail.
