WWW.FASTCOMPANY.COMHow Trumps transition agreement differs from ones signed by Biden and HarrisU.S. President-elect Donald Trumps team signed an agreement on Tuesday with President Joe Bidens administration to coordinate with federal agencies and share documents, after weeks of delays. The Trump team also posted a separate ethics pledge on the website of the General Services Administration, which echoes the standard ethics pledge signed by other past presidential candidates, ethics experts say, with some notable differences.Heres how the Trump pledge compares to one signed by Vice President Kamala Harris, also posted on the GSA website, and other presidential candidates:Stock purchasesStandard presidential ethics pledges including the ones signed by Harris in 2024 and Biden in 2020, have included a rule that Transition Team members (and their spouses and minor children) may not buy or sell individual stocks during their service with the Transition absent advance approval of the office of general counsel. There are no guidelines about individual stock sales, or any stock sales in the Trump pledge.LobbyingIn the Harris agreement, people who have registered as lobbyists can only serve on the transition team with the approval of the general counsel and are prohibited from contributing to or soliciting contributions for the transition. People cannot work on a specific transition matter if they lobbied on it in the past 12 months or plan to in the next 12.The Trump agreement is slightly different. It bars any registered lobbyist from serving on the transition team, and asks members to disqualify themselves from working on any matter if they lobbied on it in the past 12 months.Trumps assets and conflictsThe standard pledge contains a promise that the candidate, if elected, will avoid both actual and apparent conflicts of interest and to hold only non-conflicting assets, such as assets exempt from conflict by regulation. The Trump transition team pledge contains no mention of Trumps personal ethics or assets. Its a notable difference, said Enzo Benoit, spokesman for the Partnership for Public Service, which monitors transitions. But it may be a minor issue because Trump will be bound by the more detailed conflicts of interest requirements when he actually takes office.WhistleblowersThe Harris ethics agreement says the transition has adopted a whistleblower policy and will address promptly alleged violations of ethics requirements. There is no mention of whistleblowers in the Trump pledge.Heather Timmons, Reuters0 Commentaires 0 Parts 17 Vue

WWW.DEZEEN.COMOFIS Arhitekti creates timber-framed interior for home on Croatian islandSlovenian studio OFIS Arhitekti has renovated a stone home on the Croatian island of Cres, inserting a slatted timber framework that allows daylight to filter through the interior while doubling "multifunctional furniture".Aptly named Light House, the project involved gutting the three-storey home, which has a floor area of just three by three metres and occupies a portion of a historic stone building.OFIS Arhitekti focused on the verticality of the home, creating a singular structure that could unite its three floors and attic while preventing it from becoming too dark and compartmentalised.OFIS Arhitekti has renovated a stone home in Croatia"Inside a small volume you cannot create Piranesian spaces, so there were two core ideas: an impressive vertical 'lighthouse' space, and a basic wooden structure like the piers on the docks," OFIS Arhitekti founder Rok Oman told Dezeen."A light wooden structure was inserted into the empty perimeter, which makes the house usable, and at the same time, the inserted volume functions as a single piece of multifunctional furniture," he added.A core frame of timber beams and columns supports the interior structure while containing the home's electrical services.A timber framework has been slotted insideThis framework supports a series of floor plates formed entirely by wooden slats, which allow light from both the windows in the perimeter walls and a new skylight to filter through the entire home.Light House's layout is informed by traditional homes in the area, with a kitchen and dining area on the ground floor, a living room that can be converted to a guest bedroom on the first floor and the main bedroom on the second floor.Read: S2B Studio separates levels of London home with slatted floorTo create moments of privacy, each floor features a private niche containing a seating area or bed that can be closed off with curtains. In the kitchen, areas of built-in storage surround a central island. The existing walls of the home were left as-found and painted, providing a rough contrast to the new timber elements in the home's pale-toned interiors.Built-in storage features in the kitchen"The basic decision was to preserve the existing house, as it is as part of historical urban tissue, and also to prevent any unnecessary external interventions in order to retain sustainability in all senses; from ecological to social and sound pollution," Oman told Dezeen.During the construction of the project, an "improvised workshop" was set up in front of the home, which became a social space where locals could engage with the carpenters.Curtains enable privacy in the home's spacesOFIS Arhitekti is led by Oman and Spela Videcnik. Its other recent projects include a home finished with exposed concrete and black brickwork and a looping extension to a modernist villa, both in Ljubljana. The photography is by Tomaz Gregoric. The post OFIS Arhitekti creates timber-framed interior for home on Croatian island appeared first on Dezeen.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 16 Vue

WWW.YANKODESIGN.COMScroll-like seats combine minimalism and brutalism in a mind-bending designSeats like chairs and benches have designs that immediately convey images of stability and reliability, often expressed in shapes that look solid, balanced, and strong. Looks can be deceiving, as they say, and it is often the materials and structures that give a chair those properties. A chair might look like a balloon that can pop any minute but is actually made of powder-coated metal instead. This collection of backless benches and stools also gives that impression, appearing as thin, soft sheets of metal rolled like sheets of paper. Of course, theyre actually usable seating furniture despite their fragile appearances, giving any room a distinctive visual that develops a unique character over time.Designer: Arabella Maza and Stephen Maginn (Archive For Space)Paper is one of the most bendable and fragile solid materials that everyone is familiar with. Ancient papyrus scrolls are known to be brittle even when they were in use, and toilet paper is easily torn or even dissolved when wet. Its definitely not something youd want to sit on, yet rolls of paper are exactly the inspiration behind this collection of thin metal seats, teasing the mind whether to believe their eyes or their brains instead.Named after the aluminum material used to construct these simple yet elegant forms, the Alu collection looks like scrolls unraveling and frozen in time. The two remaining rolled ends function as the solid feet that support the structure, while the wavy curves above welcome the bodies of people sitting on them. Given their extra-thin profile, one might be a bit reluctant to surrender themselves to the allure of the benches, yet that is also part of the charm and call to adventure that these unique seats give. You cant go more minimalist than a single sheet of metal bent, curved, and rolled to shape. There are no backrests, no armrests, no decorations just a single unbroken surface with no other details to be seen. Its beauty comes from the gentle curves of the form itself, letting the mind wander and fill in the blanks to their own satisfaction. At the same time, the Alu collection exudes a brutalist quality, both for the unfinished versions and even for brushed aluminum. These surfaces will develop their own unique patina over the course of their use, from the wear and tear of the environment to the natural oils from peoples hands and bodies. Unique not only in its design but also in its long-term narrative, the Alu benches and stools demonstrate how much you can pull out from a single sheet of material. The post Scroll-like seats combine minimalism and brutalism in a mind-bending design first appeared on Yanko Design.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 15 Vue
