• Classic Diablo returns in this awesome indie ARPG dripping with 90s style

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games hereWhile some of us continue to run hardcore characters in Diablo 2 Resurrected, theres always an itch for more. While Diablo 3 and 4 are good games, they dont scratch that feeling that Classic Diablo has. Sure, Path of Exile comes close, but nothing is quite the same, but a new indie game looks like it might actually have what it takes to be the new Classic Diablo weve been craving.Tower of Kalemonvo is Classic Diablo rebornIn development by Eastern European developer Osur, Tower of Kalemonvo is described as a hardcore isometric ARPG with randomly generated levels meant for fans of slower paced action games.Specifically inspired by Diablo 1 and Throne of Darkness, youll explore generated dungeons to collect loot and battle hordes of demonic foes. From floating skulls to cultists, its Classic Diablo through and through. From screenshots and videos alone, the indie ARPG has already recreated one of the best elements of Blizzards original games: the lighting. Dungeons and dark and decrepit with only the players theatrical spotlight and the blast of enemy magic lighting the way.Still in development, but planned to release sometime in Q1 2025, this indie game looks like a brand-new hit of the old Diablo that Ive been desperately craving. (Theres also a demo available.) Unlike Diablo 3 and 4, or even Path of Exile, whats most exciting is its simplicity. After all, Diablo 2 didnt need seasons and endless updates to keep me engaged. Just chuck me in a dungeon with some great classes to play and Im good.Of course, whether or not Tower of Kalemonvo is good all depends on its loot itemisation, something only Diablo 2 has really got right. Time will tell if this indie game manages to be a true successor to Classic Diablo, but it is looking very promising. For more Diablo news, read the series leads thoughts on why players dont actually want Classic Diablo anymore or check out the forgotten concept art that could tease a new class for D4.Related TopicsSubscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

How About...Five Nights at Freddy's 2 set pics have started to leak, so let the unnecessarily complicated fan theories commenceBite of '87 anyone?Image credit: Blumhouse Productions News by Oisin Kuhnke Contributor Published on Jan. 13, 2025 Some set photos for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy's 2 film have leaked, so obviously now's the time to kick off some theories.Last year Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was officially announced to be in the works at Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, later locking itself in with a December 5, 2025 release date. That still seems to be the case now, even if the only thing we've really heard about it is that it's going to be scarier than the first one. But, much like the first one, set photos have started to leak for the second film, showing off another of Freddy's pizzarias, this time an incredibly run down location that features the toy versions of the creepy animatronics on the building's storefront. We already knew that this film would feature the toy models, but obviously fans have wondered how close to the games this one will be.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. The Five Nights at Freddy's fandom is obviously known for going deep on theories because of the games' various secrets and hidden bits of lore (some of which are featured in books that may or may not be canonical and definitely don't exist just to make more money), and of course fans are already wondering what it means that this particular location is so rundown. Five Nights at Freddy's 2, the game that is, is actually a prequel, set in 1987, so the toy animatronics would have been relatively new at the time, meaning this film might be taking a slightly different approach. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. You'll still probably have to wait a little while for a trailer to come out still, these things seem to be more and more down to the last minute, but if you've been desperate to see something from the film, you have this now at the very least.

  • This week's major Path of Exile 2 patch has a lot endgame fiends will love, but I am mostly excited about the subtle moment-to-moment changes
    www.vg247.com
Mapping MelodyThis week's major Path of Exile 2 patch has a lot endgame fiends will love, but I am mostly excited about the subtle moment-to-moment changesThe Path of Exile 2 team is back from the holiday break, and kicking off the new year with a massive update whose tendrils reach into much of the game.Image credit: Grinding Gear Games News by Sherif Saed Contributing Editor Published on Jan. 13, 2025 The early access launch of Path of Exile 2 late last year has been incredibly successful. Not only did it arrive with a sizeable endgame for fans of the original PoE to sink their teeth into once theyre done with (what exists of) the campaign, it also served as a fresh start for new players and anyone whod been curious about Path of Exile but never managed to get into it for all those years.I liked much of what I played of it, but you could tell that the sequel is designed to offer an experience altogether different from its predecessor, something many of the older fans werent happy with.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Developer Grinding Gear Games has been incredibly responsive to feedback from all sections of Path of Exile 2 players from the day the early access build went live. Even before we said goodbye to 2024, the team managed to put out a couple of big patches. Now, its time for the first one of those in the new year.Once again, Grinding Gear isnt looking to make the game appealing for everyone, but the developer has clearly spent the last few weeks tweaking whats already there to address some of the most common complaints. Patch 0.1.1, which arrives sometime this week, is another step towards that goal.GG is tackling the endgame mapping experience in several ways. Mapping is what longtime PoE players call the act of running several dungeons/zones back-to-back to farm items and grow their character. To begin with, endgame maps have had their monster density, number of magical monsters, essences, artefacts, available chests and more rebalanced. The developer expects maps to be more rewarding, especially as each one is designed to offer certain rewards.More maps will have bosses now, too, at a rate of about one boss per four maps. In fact, players who really want to challenge bosses will be happy to know theres a new type of Tablet that lets you add bosses to your maps with their own modifiers. As for Towers, the new patch adds four new Tower maps, as well as a redone Lost Towers map. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Now onto the stuff I am really excited about as someone whos still going through the campaign. The patch is making several fixes to collision across the board, which should hopefully result in your character getting stuck far less often. This is part of an effort to reduce environmental clutter, which will itself help boost visibility. Its also, finally, doing something about visual effects. Skill effects, though amazing to look at, often obscure enemy attacks, and, considering how challenging the gameplay is, can/will get you killed because you simply couldnt see an attack you needed to dodge. This also goes for elemental explosions, which have a longer fuse time now, too. The big one, though, is that they wont explode if a rare monster dies, which immediately makes fighting the tanky buggers much less of a pain.Elsewhere in the patch, you can expect faster load times when bringing up the Atlas map. The maps zoom level has been increased as well. The biomes for each one will be listed if you hover over them, which is going to make it easier to quickly see what youre about to jump into. Its important to keep in mind that all of these changes can be done within the existing League, and without altering the in-game economy too much. For some, they wont be enough, but its clear Grinding Gear is working on larger changes that could end up arriving with a new League. For now, theres plenty here to get excited about. The full changelog has not yet been published, but you can watch the video embedded in this story for an overview of everything else coming with 0.1.1.

  • More money comes to AI healthcare: Qventus nabs $105M at a $400M+ valuation
    techcrunch.com
Healthcare is proving to be one of the more lucrative industries when it comes to building AI solutions to speed up how work is carried out across clinical, research and administrative operations. Today comes one of the latest examples of how that is playing out in terms of venture funding. Qventus, a startup that builds AI-based tools to automate work across a range of healthcare scenarios they include surgeries, hospital discharges, and inpatient/outpatient check-ups has raised a Series D of $105 million. The funding which includes $85 million in equity and $20 million in optional debt will be used to develop more AI teammates to use across a wider set of use cases beyond the in-patient applications that helped Qventus make its name, the company said.Debt is available as we go forward if we want to put the pedal to the metal, said CEO and co-founder Mudit Garg in an interview. To be candid we needed neither equity nor debt but it was an opportunity.KKR is leading the funding, with previous backer Bessemer Venture Partners also participating. The round includes has a number of prominent strategic investors who are also customers of Qventus: Northwestern Medicine, HonorHealth, and Allina Health. The companys valuation is not being disclosed but we understand from sources that it is more than $400 million.Significantly, the fundraise underscores the interest that AI healthcare is attracting at the moment among investors. Just in the last few days, Cera in the U.K. announced $150 million in financing; Hippocratic raised $141 million; and Innovaccer raised $275 million. It also points to Qventuss own progress. This latest Series D is bigger than all of the startups previous rounds put together, with PitchBook noting that Qventus had raised around $95 million before this round. Its last valuation, in 2022, was around $200 million.Garg said that Qventus has grown its number of customers four-fold since then, working out to net retention of 120%; and its core business has seen threefold growth. It is not revealing revenue figures or any other specific numbers but he added it that is very close to breaking even. That is a detail that has become more important in recent years as startups look for more sustainable business models given that the IPO window remains relatively small, yet investors are still looking for returns.AI scribes and other kinds of AI assistants have now become relatively commonplace products in the healthcare market, so much so some AI healthcare companies might even work to distance themselves from that description to differentiate themselves. We are not an AI scribe company, Garg said. We do have the capacity to listen, but AI scribe is a relatively commoditised space and we focus on an area of operations where there is a huge pain point.Garg himself has a background in engineering and an MBA, both from Stanford, and he first came into contact with the potential of using automation to help in healthcare while working on a hospital project at McKinsey. Qventus itself has been around for more than 12 years, getting its start initially by applying machine learning and other kinds of automation technologies to make clinicians and other medical professionals more efficient and then expanding into further areas of development such as pharmacy operations.More recently, the developments of generative AI have pushed it closer to building solutions that are more responsive to what clinicians are working on in real time.If you think of where care teams are doing in below license tasks, he said, referring to admin work that is part and parcel of clinical work these days, machine learning has already been in this space for twelve years. Generative AI, he said, has helped bring more unstructured data into the mix to improve how AI tools can be used to help clinicians carry out more of that admin work, emailing and faxing far beyond [what an AI scribe can do] to take the burden off the user. Were likely to see more activity in the AI healthcare space in the coming year, both in terms of fundraises for the most promising companies, as well as M&A to consolidate the field.Qventusis at the intersection of themes that KKR has spent extensive time evaluating across both our Technology and Health Care teams, Jake Heller, a partner and head tech growth, Americas, at KKR, told TechCrunch. The company is at a key growth moment, especially during this time where health systems are adopting technology more and more to drive efficiency. The companys technology meaningfully alleviates care orchestration and administrative burdens for physicians and medical staff, which allows providers to focus on delivering the best care to patients.

  • CoreWeave, a $19B AI compute provider, opens its first international data centers in the UK
    techcrunch.com
Coreweave, the cloud computing company that provides companies with AI compute resources, has formally opened its first two data centers in the U.K. its first outside its domestic U.S. market.CoreWeave opened its European headquarters in London last May, shortly after earning a $19 billion valuation off the back of a $1.1. billion fundraise. At the same time, the company announced plans to open two data centers as part of a 1 billion ($1.25 billion) investment in the U.K. Todays news coincides with a separate announcement from the U.K. government, which details a five-year investment plan to bolster government-owned AI computing capacity as well as geographic AI Growth Zones, which includes AI infrastructure from the private sector. This investment is a huge vote of confidence in the U.K.s digital technology sector, and is exactly the kind we want to see as we grow the economy and use AI to drive efficiency, Rachel Reeves, U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer, said in a statement.CoreWeaves first U.K. data center quietly went live in Crawley back in October, the company said, and the second hub started operations in December in London Docklands. Both locations use Nvidias Hopper GPUs (graphical processing units), based on its upgraded H200 series of chips designed for AI workloads. From crypto to AI computeFounded in 2017, CoreWeave started out with a focus on crypto mining, but with the surge in demand for AI compute the processing power and infrastructure required to carry out computational tasks such as running algorithms and machine learning models the company repurposed its GPU infrastructure for such workloads.CoreWeave is one of a number of cloud infrastructure startups looking to capitalize on the AI hype wave, including domestic European players such as Frances FlexAI; DataCrunch, which is based out of Finland; and Netherlands-based Nebius, which emerged from the ashes of Russian internet giant Yandex. CoreWeave said it had opened 28 data centers by the end of 2024, including the two new ones it announced today. Its also planning 10 new data centers in 2025, three of which will be in Europe, including three previously announced locations in Norway, Sweden and Spain.

  • $35 billion Synopsys Ansys Acquisition Approved by The European Commission
    3dprintingindustry.com
The European Commission (EC) has approved US chip design software provider Synopsys deal to acquire engineering simulation specialist Ansys, subject to divestiture conditions.Worth $35 billion, the cash-and-stock agreement was announced last January. It seeks to expand the companys customer base and market position through silicone-to-system product sets. This is reportedly the biggest deal between two publicly traded companies since Broadcoms $69 billion acquisition of VMware in 2023. Anysys process simulation software is leveraged throughout the additive manufacturing industry to optimize 3D printing designs. It has previously partnered with Materialise to integrate its simulation capabilities with the Magics build preparation tool. The EC, an executive branch of the European Union (EU), found that Synopsys Ansys merger would stifle global competition in the optics, photonics, and register-transfer-level (RTL) power consumption analysis software markets, crucial to the chip design process.Consequently, both firms have agreed to sell overlapping business operations to EC-approved buyers. Synopsys will divest its optics and photonics software, including Code V, LightTools, LucidShape, RSoft, and ImSym. The Silicon Valley-based company also agreed to transfer its Optical Solutions Group to Keysight Technologies in September 2024. Ansys will sell its PowerArtist RTL power consumption analysis platform.According to the EC, these commitments address market choice and competition concerns, representing a significant step towards the acquisitions completion. An independent trustee acting under the Commissions supervision will monitor the implementation of these divestitures, a prerequisite for the acquisitions approval.EU flags flying at the European Commission. Image via Parliament magazine. Synopsys Ansys acquisition one step closer to completionThe EC concluded that a non-amended merger would have resulted in higher prices and less choice for customers. Following positive feedback during a market test, the Commission believes the modified deal will no longer raise competition concerns. However, this agreement does not mean Synopsys Ansys acquisition is guaranteed. Further regulatory checks must be completed amid wider concerns regarding its impact on market conditions.Last month, the UKs Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that the proposed purchase could reduce competition in Britains supply of semiconductor chip design and light simulation products. This would reportedly stunt innovation, resulting in lower-quality software and higher prices for UK businesses and consumers. Last week, the CMA noted that it is willing to accept Synopsys and Ansys divestment offer as grounds for approval.Elsewhere, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is reviewing the $35 billion acquisition. It conducted an initial review in March 2024, reaching out for information from third parties. A second request for information was made the following month. Similarly, Taiwans Fair Trade Commission is reportedly reviewing an antitrust filing for the business combination. Announced in November, this process is expected to take several months. This follows a 2022 US Department of Commerce investigation into Synopsys amid allegations that the firm had illegally shared chip designs with Huawei Technologies Co.s HiSilicon business unit for production at Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC). These Chinese companies are designated as threats to national security by the Commerce Departments Bureau of Industry and Security. Chinas State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) is also reviewing the $35 billion transaction, and will reportedly require behavioral remedies specific to the countrys market.Ansys headquarters. Photo via Ansys.3D printing software mergers and acquisitions 2024 reportedly saw $369 billion recorded in software-related business transactions. This included Siemens agreement to acquire Altair Engineering Inc., a 3D design and simulation software developer. Worth approximately $10 billion, this agreement seeks to strengthen the German tech multinationals market position and create the worlds most complete AI-powered design and simulation portfolio.Expected to close in the second half of 2025, Siemens Altair deal is its third-largest acquisition to date. This will see the company combine its products with Altairs software portfolio and provide the Michigan-based firm with a global footprint. It is hoped that the new business combination will provide $500 million per year in the medium term, and over $1 billion per year in the long.In December 2024, US-based 3D Systems agreed to sell its Geomagic reverse-engineering software to Hexagons Manufacturing Intelligence Division. The $123 million deal forms part of the Rock Hill-based 3D printer manufacturers review to prioritize software it deems central to accelerating the adoption of its additive manufacturing technology.Elsewhere, 3D printing service provider Shapeways recently acquired a majority stake 3D file-sharing platform Thangs, taking the reins from the sites developer Physna, Inc. This represented the second phase of Shapeways strategy to revive the company following its er its Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in July 2024.Hosting over 24 million 3D printable models, Thangs allows users to monetize their designs.
