• Short Blender Movie about Creativity Struggles That Artists Will Understand
    cgshares.com
Gurgen Aloian poured his soul and artistic experience into a short Blender-made movie about creativity and self-imposed limitations. The video tells the story of an artist stuck in his boundless 3D world and then realizing how finite it is when he is the only one inside.I made this almost as a reminder to myself: to fill my creative space with experiences, because what else can there be!? I was also thinking that I am definitely not alone, and so many artists struggle with this. We like to be comfortable, forgetting how comfort can be a detriment to creativity, Aloian said.Creativity is wonderful stimulating and infinite. But at the same time, we are ourselves finite creatures, and have needs bound to reality, he added. I call myself (and the viewer) to gather experiences so I (we) can fill the boundless canvas of creation. Otherwise it will be only filled with myself and my past in a vacuum. Many other artists could relate to the message, and maybe Aloians other works might speak to you, too, so visit his Instagram and YouTubefor more. The PS5 and PS4 edition is available for $114.71, while the Xbox and PC version is slightly more expensive at $119. Released last March to support Fortnite Festival, the Riffmaster is the only guitar controller currently being produced that's licensed by PlayStation and Xbox. PDP Riffmaster Wireless Guitar Controller for PS5 & PS4 $114.71 (was $130) To be clear, this is technically a Rock Band 4 controller, but Epic Games added support for a variety of guitar controllers last April, including Rock Band 4 guitars.By default, the Riffmaster is configured for right-handed players, but left-handed players can use it by removing a single screw and reversing the neck. The Riffmaster has five upper and lower frets as well as a D-pad on the pick guard and an analog stick on the back of the headstock. The controller offers a 30-foot wireless range via the included USB dongle and can run for up to 36 hours on a full charge. It has a built-in 3.5mm audio jack and comes with a shoulder strap. As an officially licensed controller, the Riffmaster also has the PS button to open up the PS5's control center or return to the home screen.Unlike many PlayStation controllers, the Riffmaster wasn't designed with PlayStation console compatibility in mind. That said, some users have been able to get the PlayStation Riffmaster working on PC with unofficial third-party drivers. See at Amazon PDP Riffmaster Wireless Guitar Controller for Xbox & PC $119 (was $130) If you primarily play Fortnite Festival on PC, however, you'll want to opt for the Xbox version of the Riffmaster. The Xbox model has the same features as the PlayStation edition. It has the Xbox button that opens the Guide. Both models have a sleek black and gray color scheme and are made of sturdy plastic. A collapsible design makes it easy to store the guitar or take it with you when traveling. Once taken apart, the the controller can be tossed in a backpack and then reassembled in a minute or two. See at Amazon Unfortunately, neither model is compatible with Nintendo Switch. But if you're looking for an alternative to a traditional controller for Switch or PC, CRKD recently launched a unique version of its great Neo S Wireless Controller. The Neo S Fortnite Festival Edition has a five-fret detachable module reminiscent of the accessory for Guitar Hero games on Nintendo DS. It's available now at Amazon for $60. • Celeste Devs Next Project Earthblade Officially Canceled
    www.gamespot.com
Celeste developer Extremely Ok Games has announced that its next project, Earthblade, has been canceled. The decision was made back in December, but the the team said it needed to process the news before announcing it publicly.Director Maddy Thorson provided more details in a final blog post. One of the main reasons for the cancelation revolved around disagreements over the Celeste IP rights, the details of which the studio has decided not to disclose. While a resolution was reached, founding member Pedro Medeiros parted ways with Earthblade in November and is now working on his own game, Neverway.Medeiros's departure led Thorson and programmer Noel Berry to reevaluate Earthblade, which was still promising but not as far along considering its long development period.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Elden Ring: All Daggers, Ranked
    gamerant.com
In a title like Elden Ring, where bosses are enormous and their attacks tend to have absurd range, it takes a special kind of player to willingly choose a dagger. In truth, based solely on their short reach alone, daggers are probably one of the most difficult weapons to use in all of Elden Ring. However, when paired with a lighter equipment load, the right Ash of War choice, and a bit of cunning, daggers can actually be one of the most rewarding weapons to use.

  • Celeste follow-up canceled as devs refocus to smaller projects
    www.polygon.com
Earthblade, the follow-up to 2018 2D platformer Celeste, has been canceled, developer Extremely OK Games announced in a blog post on Wednesday. We made this decision in December and felt it best to wait until now to announce it, the developer wrote. For us on the inside weve had some time to process, grieve, and work toward accepting this, although that process is nonlinear and still ongoing. The post details a disagreement about the IP rights of Celeste last year between former art director Pedro Medeiros and current Extremely OK Games members Maddy Thorson and Noel Berry. The three of them eventually reached a resolution, but both parties also agreed in the end that we should go our separate ways. Medeiros left the team in November and is currently working on their own game, Neverway.Extremely OK Games says the disagreement wasnt the sole reason for the games cancellation, but that it prompted the company to take a serious look at whether fighting through to finish Earthblade was the right path forward. Even though it was announced in 2019, the team said it was not as far along as one would expect after such a protracted development process.Earthblade was meant to be another 2D platformer in the style of Celeste, borrowing its pastel pixel art style and Metroidvania exploration elements. The game wouldve followed main character Nvoa as they explored a ruined Earth with a soundtrack composed by Lena Raine, who previously did the music for Celeste. The first footage of the game was shown at the 2024 Game Awards and showcased its intricate 2D levels and gloomy tone.Celestes success applied pressure on us to deliver something bigger and better with Earthblade, and that pressure is a large part of why working on it has become so exhausting, it wrote. Pedro isnt to blame for this in fact the split with him has given us the clarity to see that we have lost our way, and the opportunity to admit defeat. I feel many ways about it, but one big feeling is undoubtedly relief.Other members of the team decided to leave last year as well, leaving Thorson and Berry as the remaining employees of Extremely OK Games. The developer said it wants to wipe the slate clean and refocus on smaller-scale projects. Were prototyping again and exploring at our own pace, and trying to rediscover game development in a manner closer to how we approached it at Celestes or TowerFalls inception.

  • Metaphor: ReFantazios manga adaptation is weirdly different and comedic
    www.polygon.com
As soon as I saw Metaphor: ReFantazio was getting a manga adaptation, I figured this would be a good option for folks who dont have the time or patience to play an RPG that could easily take 80 hours to complete (or in my case, well over 100 hours, what with all the side quests I embarked upon). But based on the first issue, which you can read for free on Manga Plus, this adaptation is going to be a lot sillier. Its not just that the manga makes several changes to the story, but theres that too. The whole tone of the book is different. After the initial sense of whiplash, I decided I liked it, but it does require some mental adjustment. In the game, the main character often speaks with a strange sense of formality and emotional distance; hes one of the least developed characters in the game, which makes sense, as hes a cypher onto which the player can project themselves easily. Thats pretty classic for a video game.In the manga, I was shocked to see the main character saying shut up to his fairy friend Gallica right out of the gate. Harsh! He turns out to be more goofball than jerk, though, with tons of vibrant facial expressions and little quips that the protagonist of the game never had.The biggest change in the book is to Strohls character. In the game, hes almost as understated and withdrawn as the protagonist; hes a noble who has lost his lands and family, but still believes in the idea of nobility and living up to it. The manga turns that thinly sketched concept into comedic caricature, having Strohl constantly shout at people that his noble blood requires him to help commoners at all costs. He repeatedly flings himself into near-death situations, most of which are invented purely for the manga, in order to prove hes the noblest noble ever. The mangas first issue meanders through some plot points that never happen in the game at all and then suddenly ends with the kings funeral, an event that does happen in-game and is a major turning point in the storys first act. I was kind of surprised the manga got to it so quickly. (For comparisons sake, the funeral scene happens about two hours into this 20-hour cutscene compilation of the game.) But stranger still, the manga doesnt ever introduce Hulkenberg, instead giving her biggest early moments to Strohl; in the game, Hulkenberg is there from the very beginning, way before Strohl shows up. I dont mind the manga making these changes in the interest of streamlining a very complex RPG plot, and having fewer characters right out of the gate doubtless helps with that, but its still strange to see so many major events unfolding without Hulkenberg present. But its really the decision to make all the characters into emotive goofballs thats throwing me, and ultimately making me wonder if the game could have been improved with some of these elements. I dont need Strohl and the main character to be as exaggerated in their actions as they are in the manga, where the characterization is clearly done for the sake of quick narrative shorthand. But it actually would have been nice to see a bit more personality out of the two of them, especially in the slow early hours of the game before you accrue some of the more entertaining party members (such as Heismay). Its definitely entertaining to see an unexpectedly different spin on the story and Ill be curious how the rest of the issues adapt the forthcoming adventures.
