• Fubos cheapest streaming plan is now $85 per month
    www.theverge.com
Fubo has raised its English-language streaming plan prices by $5 each, with a Fubo spokesperson citing rising costs from our programming partners, reported The Streamable yesterday. Fubos Essential and Pro plans now start at $85 a month, while its Elite plan has gone up to $95 monthly. We only make adjustments when necessary, a Fubo spokesperson said to The Streamable, and were committed to keeping Fubo competitive while ensuring our subscribers have access to the channels, features and live events they enjoy. Fubo debuted its Essential plan at $80 per month in December, as The Streamable notes. While priced the same as the Pro plan and offering largely the same features, it doesnt include regional sports networks or the extra up-to-$16 monthly fee that comes with them. With the rate hike, Fubo is once again more expensive than YouTube TV, which raised its subscription fee by $10 the same month. Its also pricier than Disneys Hulu + Live TV, which Fubo is planning to merge with.

  • Belkin SoundForm Isolate review: Noise cancelling headphones for those on a budget
    9to5mac.com
At CES 2025, Belkin began shipping its new SoundForm Isolate headphones. Theyre the first wireless headphones with active noise cancellation that Belkin has developed, and they come in at just $60 making them incredibly affordable over-ear headphones.Hardware impressionsDespite the low price tag, Belkin built the SoundForm Isolates fairly well. They dont feel cheap. Obviously, theyre made out of plastic, but so are any pair of over-ear headphones that arent AirPods Max. The ear cushions feel nice, and I dont feel like Id break the headphones. The SoundForm Isolates also fold inwards, allowing you to easily toss them into a backpack or whatnot. You can also rotate the earcups to your liking, helping you achieve a more comfortable fit.In the box, you get a USB-C charging cable as well as a 3.5mm aux cable, though there isnt an included case. Thats understandable for the price tag, but worth mentioning. The included aux cable is a huge plus though, giving users a ton of connectivity options, other than just bluetooth.Software featuresOn the left ear-cup, theres a button thatll toggle between three modes: hear-through on, noise cancelling off, and noise cancelling on. The names could be a little bit better, but essentially, think of these as transparency mode, off mode, and noise cancelling mode. Despite being three distinct modes, theyre actually not too different from one another. Noise cancellation certainly does reduce some background noise (especially when walking outside), but over-ear headphones also offer a lot of passive noise cancellation from simply covering your ears. The noise cancellation does its job, but dont expect to have your mind blown. It doesnt do a particularly good job with voices for example, but theyre also only $60.Hear-through mode also does what it says on the tin, and helps pass through some external audio while youre wearing the headphones. Nothing exceptional, but it does what it says fairly well. However, there is one unique feature that these offer: isolate mode. By pressing both volume up and volume down together (on the right ear-cup), you can enter isolate mode, which plays ocean sounds while you wear the headphones. Im not sure that this personally helps me focus, but I could certainly see some people being a fan of it. Some people find it easier to fall asleep while listening to ocean noises, so theres definitely a purpose there.AudioBelkins SoundForm Isolates sound fine. I didnt expect much for $60, and they certainly didnt fail to deliver in any area. Im no audio nerd, so I wont get super in depth here, but dont go into it with the expectation of having amazing audio. They do offer a fair bit of bass, which some people are into. They can also get fairly loud, though not to the point of potentially causing hearing loss. You can also go down to the lowest volume notch and theyll still be audible, which you cant say about every pair of headphones, so thats a plus. Also, the microphones are pretty good for a quick phone call.9to5Macs TakeWhile these headphones offer nothing spectacular, theyre definitely not bad. Id say they make a lot of sense to purchase if you want to give them to a younger kid who you wouldnt want to trust with something too pricey. Theyre definitely a good pair of wireless headphones, and its impressive that Belkin was able to deliver such a product at only $60. While not for everyone, the SoundForm Isolates are certainly adequate for those on a tight budget and want over-ear wireless headphones. You can purchase Belkin SoundForm Isolate on Amazon for $59.99, if youre interested. They come in two colors: black and sand, and offer 60 hours of battery life.Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Gurman: Apple Stores performing updates next week
    9to5mac.com
According to a tweet from Bloombergs Mark Gurman, Apple will be performing some merchandise/floor marketing updates at its retail stores next week. While specific details arent confirmed, Apple is likely launching the new Black Unity Apple Watch band for 2025.In the past, Apple has announced these new bands around mid-late January, and put them on sale around a week later. Apple hasnt yet announced the new Black Unity Apple Watch band this year, and thats the most likely announcement. MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris recently discovered references to the unreleased watch band within tvOS 18.3 code, suggesting that the launch is right around the corner.Apple began launching Black Unity Apple Watch bands in 2021, and its remained an annual tradition since then. The bands tend to feature a red, green, and black color way. In recent history, theyve also been accompanied by a new watch face.Given the fact that Apple released the release candidate of iOS 18.3 last week, its a fairly safe guess that the limited-time watch band is around the corner.Apple is also rumored to announce the new MacBook Air with M4 chip before the spring, but I wouldnt count on that being next weeks announcement.Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Trump administration reportedly negotiating an Oracle takeover of TikTok

In BriefPosted:2:56 PM PST January 25, 2025Image Credits:Jaap Arriens/NurPhoto / Getty ImagesTrump administration reportedly negotiating an Oracle takeover of TikTokThe Trump administration is negotiating a deal that would see Oracle take over TikTok alongside new U.S. investors, according to a report in NPR.Lawmakers passed a bill last year forcing Chinese parent company ByteDance to either sell TikTok or see it banned in the U.S. The app briefly went dark before the law took effect on January 20 until incoming President Donald Trump said he would issue an executive order delaying the ban.At the time, Trump also outlined his initial thought on a deal to save TikTok creating a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners whereby the U.S. gets a 50% ownership.NPRs reporting suggests that a deal is now shaping up where Oracle would take control of TikToks global operations while ByteDance retains a minority stake.Trump tried to force TikTok to sell during his first term, with Oracle emerging as a potential buyer. While that didnt happen, TikTok later said it shifted all its U.S. traffic to Oracle servers. And at a press conference on Tuesday, Trump said hed be open to either X owner Elon Musk or Oracle chairman Larry Ellison buying the app.Meanwhile, some of the senators who supported the ban-or-sell bill have expressed confusion about Trumps plans and said the law requires ByteDance to fully divest.Topics

  • AI For Data-Driven Tutoring Solutions: Is Socrates Here?
    www.forbes.com
Socrates statue at the academy of athens, copy spacegettyFrom time to time, its a good idea to look at the top use cases of AI as its being used right now in our societies. Theres so much coming along down the pike that that people are excited about, but the applications that are working right now represent the fruits of what weve been able to do up to this point.Im going to go back to a new X post by Ethan Mollick of MIT fame, who has given us a lot of good framing for the ways that AI impacts us. A few weeks ago, I wrote about some of his essays and His contributions to the field.I was reading his X post from January 15 that got nearly 4,000,000 views and 360 responses. In it, he was documenting a new randomized trial of Nigerian students using a GPT model:Six weeks of after-school AI tutoring = two years of typical learning gains, outperforming 80% of other educational interventions, Mollick writes. This tracks with what a lot of other experts are saying about AI - that it is uniquely positioned to provide good student support.MORE FOR YOUTargeted AssessmentsMollick also mentions specific categories of students well served by the AI tutor:(The AI) helped all students, especially girls who were initially behind, he writes. You can see a couple of charts showcasing test scores and days of attendance. The Goal to TeachHeres another resource from MIT from last year, where the writer showcases the work of Patrick Suppes, a National Medal of Science winner, talking about this type of technology in the 1960s.Edtech, he said, would lead to students having the personal services of a tutor as well informed and responsive as Aristotle. Now we have entered the age of generative AI and large language models, such as ChatGPT, the author writes. Is technology finally ready to deliver on the promise of computer-powered tutoring as a scalable technological solution?Mollicks data suggests that it isElements of Student SupportWhen it comes to tutoring, obviously there are some major elements of how the technology works to the students benefit. Theres the time spent reviewing the material, and the access to learning methods. But theres also something that the MIT article talks about as cognitive scaffolding that unlocks the students own thinking. In other words, its the interplay of the student and the technology that produces results. Its like the old saying, two heads are better than one or someone saying I need someone to bounce ideas off of.The article continues:In terms of social connection, it is true that tools like ChatGPT can adopt particular tones and strategies that build up rapport, and they can respond in ways that are sensitive to frustration and other negative emotions, offering encouragement and normalizing struggles. In other words, telling a student that their feelings are normal empowers him or her to push through and do more to overcome obstacles.Education and the Socratic MethodOne of my colleagues, Dr. John Sviokla, has often talked about AI as a tutor and why it is so impressive. You may have heard of the Socratic method, which indicates that the student should be doing 70% of the work, of the expression and communication, and the teacher should be doing 30%. We often see this flipped around in American classrooms. But AI is changing things in a big way. Just ask a teacher or administrator, or review the kinds of results that Mollick has shown us as we launch into 2025.

  • AMD mightve already lost the war with the RX 9070 XT
    www.digitaltrends.com
Table of ContentsTable of ContentsWhats going on with RDNA 4?Im losing faith, and Im not aloneAMD could still make the RX 9070 XT a successIt looks like I may have played myself again. I was genuinely excited about AMDs RX 9070 XT, but now, Im starting to worry about its future. I always knew that the new AMD flagship wouldnt be able to compete against some of Nvidias best graphics cards, but I had a lot of hope that itd still be a great competitor for a number of other reasons.Im not doubting the performance of the RX 9070 XT. I have no reason to, as we dont know a thing about it and thats exactly why Im worried. Not only are the GPUs still a complete mystery, but theyve also reportedly been delayed. At this rate, I fear that AMD may have lost the war before it even started, and Im not alone.Recommended VideosI felt pretty excited for the RX 9070 XT, but so far, the launch of RDNA 4 has been a harsh lesson in managing your expectations.Get your weekly teardown of the tech behind PC gaming First, the GPUs barely got a mention during AMDs 45-minute-long CES 2025 keynote. Then, the few slides that AMD released to the press offered very little information; we basically only learned a little bit about the RDNA 4 architecture and AMDs performance goals. The information was vague, too think improved ray tracing performance and the like. The GPUs themselves were spotted at CES, but only those made by AMDs partners, and they didnt come with any specifications. So, at this stage, its been revealed that the RX 9070 XT comes with three fans in its Gigabyte design. Thats not a lot.But wait theres hope, or so I thought. AMD told Digital Trends that RDNA 4 would be released in a matter of weeks, and that the company thought that the new RX 9000 series deserved its own event. But only silence has followed. The first update came not from AMD itself, but from B&H. The retailer put the RX 9070 XT up for sale with a January 22 preorder date. The cards had been taken down, but then they reappeared with a release date of March 22. Finally, this tracks.Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally. Cant wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March! David McAfee (@McAfeeDavid_AMD) January 20, 2025David McAfee, AMDs vice president and general manager of the Ryzen CPU and Radeon graphics division, revealed on X (Twitter) that the cards will go on sale in March. McAfee later added that AMD is holding onto the GPUs a little while longer in order to optimize their software stack, including FSR 4.Meanwhile, various leakers and tipsters are having a field day with AMDs troubled RDNA 4 launch. Recent whispers point to AMD still holding off to see how Nvidia fares. At this rate, AMD will likely get to see the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070 in their full glory before it launches the RX 9070 XT.AMD wanted to announce its new graphics cards alongside Nvidia, but it clearly didnt have a solid plan for actually releasing them. Now, weve had to cobble together various ideas about the cards from leaks, board partners, and social media posts, which doesnt inspire a lot of confidence. As soon as I saw David McAfee announce that RDNA 4 wouldnt be here until March, I knew what was coming and I wasnt wrong. PC gaming enthusiasts, including both AMD and Nvidia fans, werent happy with the way its all gone down.Scrolling through the hundreds of comments under McAfees post reveals just how badly the general public wants to know whats going on.Not even, a proper announcement with slides of performance, features. Could be even "price will be reveled at, a later date". This is so bad PR i have no words. Tomasz Gawroski (@GawroskiT) January 20, 2025Sitting at over 500 likes, a comment from GawroskiT on X makes a dig at AMDs PR team. Not even a proper announcement. [] This is [such] bad PR. I have no words.Another user, PlaysRingle, promises to ditch AMD for Nvidia based on how things are going. AMD is going to make me upgrade my RX 7900 XTX to an RTX 5080. I cant keep defending AMD when it keeps doing these things.I know that Im being fairly critical of AMD here myself, but I cant help feeling bad when reading these comments and seeing the reactions. Some of it is really quite harsh, such as this comment from noremac258: Does AMD ever not fail to capitalize on an opportunity? [] AMDs graphics division is a disaster. What ARE you guys doing? What sort of "marketing" is this "stealth" reveal??? Your CES presence was so uninformative you'd have been better off not showing up at all, and all we get since then is THIS? DGBurns (@davidgburns) January 21, 2025I tried to find more supportive comments, but there are very few of those to be found. However, Hardware Unboxed made a separate post defending AMD, which is what prompted McAfee to clarify that the delayed launch comes down to software optimization.AMD delaying the launch of RDNA4 to March is the right move. The last thing they want is stuffing up the launch yet again, which they risk doing if they launch before Nvidia. And very few people would have bought a 9070 XT just because it launched a week or two before the 5070. Hardware Unboxed (@HardwareUnboxed) January 20, 2025I know that X is a tough crowd, so I decided to check Reddit for more reactions. Long story short it wasnt pretty. The comments under this post, sharing that RDNA 4 wont arrive until March, are still harsh. One commenter said: Nvidias release was looking rather underwhelming, so AMD had to pull out all the stops to make sure they miss the opportunity this time.I perceive this as having no confidence in your own product. [AMD] had the opportunity here to seize this midrange market segment by coming out first, said another user, pointing out that waiting for Nvidias RTX 5070 might backfire. In search of people who are more in favor of AMD than Nvidia, I ventured into the r/AMD community. This post quickly showed me that people arent willing to cut AMD any slack.Other than the top comment thread pictured above, all the other highly-rated comments criticize AMD. Absolute incompetence from AMDs GPU division, again, says one poster. Doesnt a significant amount of retailers already have the cards in stock? What a fumble, adds another.I could go on, but you get the gist. Its clear that people arent pleased, and while the internet at large is hardly ever satisfied, some of this mightve been avoided if AMD had been more forthcoming about the RX 9000 series. People are frustrated with the delay, but also with the lack of information.Jacob Roach / Digital TrendsThings are looking a little bleak for RDNA 4 right now, but the internet is quick to forget. Its still entirely possible for AMD to turn this around and make the launch of the RX 9000 series a success. My opinion is that sharing some information would be better than sharing next to none; even a basic spec sheet would go a long way. Although McAfee plays a key role in AMDs GPU strategy, most fans dont check his X account on a daily basis. Those people are either kept in the dark or theyre left to rely on third parties to tell them whats going on.Letting the general public figure out AMDs plans based on social media means that a lot of people who might have otherwise been happy to wait will now be influenced by people who are decidedlynot happy. If there are hundreds of comments all saying that AMD is doing a bad job, its easy to start believing it yourself if you dont have anyone telling you otherwise.Unfortunately, right now, AMD is really not doing much to dispel that notion. A quick X post, even when coming from an AMD executive, doesnt cut it.Aside from some marketing efforts to drive up the hype, I think its now more important than ever for AMD to lean into that performance-per-dollar metric that makes GPUs like Intels Arc B580 such a great deal. The fact is that the RX 9070 XT might still be an exceptional GPU even if it wont be able to beat all of its Nvidia rivals. Most people wont be spending $2,000 (or more) on an RTX 5090. The GPU market needs graphics cards that provide value while being able to run the latest games, and to that end, AMDs usually done a pretty good job. Strangely enough, some of its best GPUs are the ones that didnt get a lot of love from the marketing department, such as the RX 7900 GRE but thats no reason for the RX 9070 XT to also be launched with so little fanfare. In the consumer graphics market, AMD is a small fish; Nvidia is a massive shark. Following a troubled launch, AMD may therefore now face an uphill climb with the RX 9070 XT but Im still hopeful. If AMD gets the pricing right, the RX 9070 XT might still turn out to be an amazing card. On the other hand, if its too expensive when compared to its Nvidia rivals, it might end up being overlooked regardless of AMDs marketing efforts. And lets hope that those efforts actually begin soon, because so far, Nvidias winning the battle but AMD could still walk away unscathed from the war.Editors Recommendations

  • Does the Samsung Galaxy S25 have an SD card slot?
    www.digitaltrends.com
html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd" Table of ContentsTable of ContentsCloud storage optionsUse a USB-C cableThe Galaxy S25 series has plenty of storageTheSamsung Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra do not have SD card slots. In fact, the last Galaxy S device that had an SD card slot was the Galaxy S20; every iteration since that time has had no slot included, somewhat limiting options for expanding your phones storage. However, that doesnt mean there are no options at all. Though it lacks an SD card slot, the Galaxy S25 series charges through a USB-C port, and that means you can also transfer data that way. Lets take a look at what you can do to circumvent the lack of an SD card, and why the default storage on the devices is enough to make additional storage unnecessary for most people.Recommended VideosLike Apple, Samsung has its own cloud storage option in the Samsung Cloud, but this is for keeping your settings homogenous across devices. It doesnt offer proper storage for files and images, although you can sync your Samsung Galaxy device with Microsoft OneDrive for automatic backups.Nirave Gondhia / Digital TrendsAnother option is to use Google Drive. Users receive 15GB for free, and upgrading to 100GB is $2 per month, 2TB is $2.50 per month, and 2TB with AI is $20 per month. There are introductory periods for each of these plans, so you can test them yourself without paying full price.RelatedYou can connect your Galaxy S25 device directly to your computer. It should appear under connected devices as a separate drive, and you can then transfer files by clicking and dragging them where you want. When your phone starts to fill up with images, video, and other applications, you can connect it to your computer and offload any unneeded or unwanted files. Of course, you can also delete them and save yourself a bit of trouble but if you need to hold onto the files, its worth setting up a folder on your PC.Nirave Gondhia / Digital TrendsOne of the major selling points for this new series of phones is their storage. The Galaxy S25 has a base storage of 128GB and a max of 256GB, while the Galaxy S25+ offers 256GB or 512GB. The Galaxy S25 Ultra offers three options: 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. All three phones have the same 12GB of RAM.With a 128GB phone, youre going to run out of storage but the average person isnt likely to fill up a 1TB phone anytime soon. Those who use their devices for work and take professional-grade images and video on it, though, might want to opt for the 1TB configuration.Sure, the 128GB option is likely to be the most budget-friendly, but opt for higher storage capacity if you can. The high resolution of most images and videos mean they take up a significant amount of space, and AI features contribute further to that. You want as much storage as you can afford.Editors Recommendations
