  • This made my face feel so much tighter: TikTok users claim banana peels can act as a natural form of Botox
    www.fastcompany.com
Botox can be expensive. You know what isnt? Bananas.A new beauty hack making the rounds online involves rubbing the inside of a banana peel all over your face for a few minutes to brighten and tighten skin. Youve heard of chemical peels for your skin? Now its all about the banana peel. This actually made my face feel so much tighter, one TikToker said after giving the hack a go. Me, after seeing a banana peel can help with hydration, brightening, hyperpigmentation & be preventative Botox, wrote another over a video of them rubbing the peel on their skin. POV: When youre 37 years old & do banana peel scrubs instead of Botox, a third creator posted. Why didnt I see this 5,000 bananas ago, read one of the comments. @sheenaanayaaa This actually made my face feel wo much tighter #bananapeel #bananafacial #skincareroutine #skincaretips original sound Kardashian clips Can it be that the key to glowing skin has been sitting in our fruit bowls all this time? Dermatologist Geeta Yadav posted a TikTok video sharing her thoughts on the hack: First off, ew, she says. And while yes, she acknowledges that bananas contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and antimicrobial properties, Dr. Yadav wouldnt recommend using banana peels in place of an over-the-counter skincare product. As for being natures Botox? Theres no topical or food supplement that is going to give you the same effect Botox can when [its injected], she adds. @geetayadavmd Say what?! People are rubbing banana peels on their face as a DIY skincare hack claiming it tightens skin and smooths wrinkles like BOTOX? As a #dermatologist I have to say that Im not a fan of putting food on the face. While banana peels do have some beneficial properties, they dont compare to the results of BOTOX or well-studied skincare products. If youre concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, talk to a dermatologist about your options. Lets stick to the tried and true and avoid the banana peel trend! #DermReactstoBananaPeels #dermreacts #dermatologist #fyp original sound Dr. Geeta Yadav One TikToker points to the lutein in the banana peel as the reason for its possible brightening, hydrating, and soothing properties. Its more like preventative Botox, she says. Skin and aesthetics expert Nina Prisk, founder of Update Aesthetics clinics in the U.K., cautions that while bananas do contain lutein, an antioxidant that may help brighten the skin, it wont be absorbed properly simply by rubbing a banana all over your face. It may, in fact, result in skin irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin, she adds.Unless you are allergic to bananas, this beauty hack is unlikely to do any harm. As for the Botox claims, rubbing banana skins on the face is simply not comparable to something which has scientific backing and has been used for over 20 years with proven results, Prisk says. Although some people might experience a temporary feeling of skin tightening, this will be short-lived, and it will not offer long-lasting results like injectable aesthetic treatments can. That doesnt mean bananas dont have a host of benefits when used as nature intended (i.e., eaten). Naturally rich in potassium, bananas can help keep your skin moisturized and hydrated from the inside out. So just eat the banana, compost the tossed peel, and book an appointment with a professional for any Botox needs.

  • Trump signs order to create a sovereign wealth fund that could buy TikTok
    www.fastcompany.com
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday ordering the creation of a sovereign wealth fund within the next year, saying it could potentially buy the short video app TikTok.Trump offered little in the way of detail and it was unclear how such a wealth fund would work. Typically such funds rely on a countrys budget surplus to make investments, but the U.S. operates at a deficit. Its creation also would likely require approval from Congress. Were going to create a lot of wealth for the fund, Trump told reporters. And I think its about time that this country had a sovereign wealth fund.Trump had previously floated such a government investment vehicle as a presidential candidate, saying it could fund great national endeavors like infrastructure projects such as highways and airports, manufacturing, and medical research.Administration officials did not say how the fund would operate or be financed, but Trump has previously said it could be funded by tariffs and other intelligent things.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters the fund would be set up within the next 12 months. Were going to monetize the asset side of the U.S. balance sheet for the American people, Bessent said. Therell be a combination of liquid assets, assets that we have in this country as we work to bring them out for the American people. The Biden administration also was considering establishing such a fund prior to Trumps election in November, according to The New York Times and Financial Times.Investors on Wall Street said the news came as a surprise.Creating a sovereign wealth fund suggests that a country has savings that will go up and can be allocated to this, said Colin Graham, head of multi-asset strategies at Robeco in London. The economic rules of thumb dont add up.There are over 90 such funds across the world managing over $8 trillion in assets, according to the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds. In another surprise twist, Trump suggested the wealth fund could buy Tiktok, whose fate has been up in the air since a law requiring its Chinese owner ByteDance to either sell it on national security grounds or face a ban took effect on Jan. 19.Trump, after taking office on Jan. 20, signed an executive order seeking to delay by 75 days the enforcement of the law.Trump has said that he was in talks with multiple people over TikToks purchase and would likely have a decision on the apps future in February. The popular app has about 170 million American users. Were going to be doing something, perhaps with TikTok, and perhaps not, Trump said. If we make the right deal, well do it. Otherwise, we wontwe might put that in the sovereign wealth fund.Jarrett Renshaw, Pete Schroeder, and Suzanne McGee, Reuters

  • Justin Mitchell designs portable phone keyboard for "writing wherever inspiration strikes"
    www.dezeen.com
Product designer Justin Mitchell has designed Amber KB 1, a conceptual portable clamshell keyboard that transforms smartphones into laptops.Named Amber KB1, the device is designed to be compatible with iPhone models and the Samsung Galaxy S series."The Amber keyboard, or KB 1 as we are calling it, was inspired by a need to write anywhere inspiration strikes," Justin Mitchell told Dezeen."The top clamshell is large enough to support most if not all large form factor phones and we will supply faceplates for the most common device sizes in the box."Justin Mitchell has designed a portable clamshell keyboardFeaturing mechanical, chunky keys, the Amber KB1 would allow users to place their devices into the slot and start typing after connecting via Bluetooth."The keycaps will feature a low profile linear mechanical switch for a balance between that fun clacky feel and non-intrusive sound for those of you writing in a shared space or cafe," Mitchell explained. The keyboard will be made from soft-touch plastic for the shell, with the top covered in polyurethane synthetic leather featuring the Amber logo.Compact enough to fit in a car's side pocket or a bag, the keyboard can be charged via a USB port. The device features mechanical keysOne of the key challenges in the design was developing the hinge mechanism and ensuring the phone stays securely docked during intensive typing."The phone holder is a MagSafe-compatible magnet that locks your phone in place," Mitchell explained.Read: Clicks keyboard for iPhones offers "satisfying feedback" when typing"The hinge has to be robust enough to support the weight of the phone, while also offering adjustable angles for optimal ergonomics and stability during typing," he continued."We built a gap into the top shell to allow the top half of the clamshell to extend further back than 90 degrees so the writer is not hunched over while typing and can adjust to a comfortable position while still maintaining a weighted balance. Laptop hinges served as a major inspiration point here as they already achieve this quite well."The device is small enough to fit in the side pocket of a carOther conceptual designs featured on Dezeen include a diagnostic kit powered by AI, designed to remotely diagnose and manage health conditions and a menopausal treatment service that would use AI to help alleviate users' symptoms. The post Justin Mitchell designs portable phone keyboard for "writing wherever inspiration strikes" appeared first on Dezeen.
