  • Capcom Has Been Considering A New Okami For A While, Since It's "A Very, Very Unique" IP
    www.gamespot.com
While it's been almost two decades since Okami launched, Capcom has apparently always been thinking about a new entry in the franchise. That's because the company sees the series as a "very, very unique IP" with a satisfied player base, per Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. What was key was finding the right people and opportunity.Speaking with IGN, Hirabayashi talked about the origins of Okami 2 alongside game director Hideki Kamiya, who founded the new studio Clovers. The surprise sequel was unveiled at The Game Awards in December. "But for Capcom, we were always looking for the opportunity to create new Okami," said Hirabayashi. "Of course, for such a project, we needed various preparations to be able to make sure that this all comes true. We needed to have certain key people in place." Kamiya--who left Platinum Games in 2023--added that he "always wanted to create an Okami sequel." The director pointed out "that the story itself isn't really complete" in the original, so he's had a desire to finish it.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Almost Half Of Steam Users Still Use Windows 10, Despite Impending End Of Life
    www.gamespot.com
Windows 11 has been here for a while, but that doesn't mean that Windows 10 users are willing to go gentle into that good night, despite its impending "end-of-life" date of October 14, 2025. As spotted by PC Guide, according to Steam's January 2025 Hardware & Software Survey, more than 44% of the storefront's users are still on Windows 10, with more than 55% opting for Windows 11.Windows 11 has been out for four years now, but there are a few obvious reasons for its lack of market penetration. For one, the differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11 can be difficult to suss out at a first glance, and for most users, there isn't really a strong reason to upgrade. For another, Windows 11 came along with some stiff hardware requirements that essentially locked out those with older processors, even though many of those machines can still run many PCs games well.Windows 10's end of life means that Microsoft will no longer receive software updates or security fixes, and the company has been encouraging users to upgrade for years now. It seems inevitable that the numbers will begin to shift a bit more, a process that has perhaps already started--Windows 10 had a slight majority of Steam's userbase in September of last year, losing roughly 5% in the interim. The survey also revealed that the most popular GPU for Steam users is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, that 16 GB RAM is the most common, and that a majority of Steam users have hard drives with more than 1 TB total space and 100 to 249 GB of free space. Check out our take on the most-anticipated PC games of 2025 for more.

  • Dawntreader side quest walkthrough for Avowed
    www.polygon.com
Dawntreader is an Avowed side quest you can pick up in Paradis early in the game. At the end of it, youll have to choose what to do with the Splinter of Eothas and Sargamis, the godlike Oracle. Our Avowed guide will give you a full Dawntreader walkthrough, including telling you where to find the Aedyran Expedition, what choice to make with the Oracle, and what choice to make with the Voice. How to start Dawntreader in AvowedYoull be able to pick up the Dawntreader side quest when you reach Paradis in Dawnshore. Youre looking for someone named Ofryc in the Southern Paradis Administration District. Youll find him outside of the Aedyran Embassy. When you speak to him, hell tell you about the godlike named the Oracle. Keep talking to him and hell point you to his brother Caedmon and the Free Expedition Corps in a temple called Pilgrims Path a bit north of the city. How to reach the Eothasian TempleYour destination for the Find the Aedyran Expedition Team objective is a ways to the north of Paradis in a region named the Northern Farms. If youve unlocked it, the Northern Farms Beacon is right next to Pilgrims Path.Talk your past Secgwin, and youll head inside. Follow the path behind her, and youll come to the Eothasian Temple. Head inside. In the first room you come to, there are a pair of essence generators on the left side. Hit the inactive one on the right with shock damage either from a spell or from an electric lily seed that you can find nearby. Once the door opens, take out the skeletons, loot the room, and read the Book of Verses. Head back out and continue on your way to the left.In the next room, take a left up the stairs, and then stick to the right wall. Head into then tunnel on your right and youll get a good look at the Oracles temple. Take another right and deal with the xaurips you run into.Keep heading toward the marker on your HUD, looting as you go. Eventually, youll find Caedmon and talk to him. Hell give you more information about the Oracle and the temple, and then give you a new, optional objective.Speak to Sargamis, the Oracle of EothasYoull have to deal with a few xaurips on your way around to Sargamis, the Oracle. Cross the last wooden bridge, and youll find him waiting for you in a clearing in front of the strange statue.Speak to Sargamis for some answers and context. Youll learn about the Splinter of Eothas relic housed here.Where to find the Splinter of Eothas relicHead through the main door behind Sargamis and keep following the marker on your HUD. Youll reach a flooded tunnel in the first room. Swim through. When you surface in the first room, follow the ramp up and around. Youll come to a crack in the wall with an essence generator on the far side. Throw an electric lily seed through (or hit it with electric magic) to open the door below you. Drop down and swim through.Underwater, youll find a chest to loot. Surface, and follow the ledges around to a destructible wall. (You can also backtrack and just swim the rest of the way through.)In the next room, there are several books to read scattered around you. Check them all out, and then deal with the spiders to your right. Check for more books and then examine the Statue Schematic on the wall for some more context. From the schematic, burn through the webs on your left to reveal a tunnel. Itll lead you to a small group of dwellings. Deal with the beetles and the xaurip, and then loot everything.Use the ramp and ruined staircase on the right wall to climb into the next hallway. Grab the Consecration Prayer as you pass.Go through the main door. The Splinter of Eothas is ahead of you, but ignore it for now. Turn left to hit an essence generator. Directly in front of the altar with the splinter, look on the ground to the right. Smash through the vases there to enter another room. Keep smashing vases as you work through the coffins. Grab the History of the Living Lands IV: [Redacted] as you pass. When you reach the end, look down and right again. Smash through more vases as you continue. Take out the skeleton monk and loot the lockbox.Turn right again and go into the hall. Loot the corpse on your way out, and then unbar the door to return to the main entrance. This time, duck under the platform on the left side of the main entrance. Inside, look to the left to find a crack in the wall. Shoot the essence generator on the far side to open the door above you.Head back out and through the door you just opened. Around to your left, open the sarcophagus for a bunch of goodies and resources.Head back out and go through the main door to retrieve the relic. When you head back to the main courtyard, youll have to put down a handful of skeletons and a boss named the Godless Executioner. How to find the Aedyran ExpeditionWith the relic in hand, you could end the side quest here. But lets get the other optional objectives out of the way. When you head back the way you came, the temple will be partially flooded. Cross the tree root to the far side and jump the gap.Climb up the ledges on your right. At the top, duck through the low tunnel ahead of you and a little to the right. Follow the cave around and drop through the hole in the floor.Walk around the curtain to find the missing expedition. Talk to Kai about what you found and try to piece together what happened.Theres another book in the room, On the Binding of Souls, thatll give a little more context. If you dont care about what the Oracle has to say, you can just leave at this point and go Speak to Ofryc.Should you attack or help Sargamis, the Oracle? When you leave the curtained off area, use the switch on the wall to open the door. Head up and around on the ramps. Unbar the door at the top to return back to the Oracles courtyard. When you speak with Sargamis, youll have several choices to make you can say you dont have the relic, you can attack him, or you can help him but they all end almost entirely the same way.Say you dont have the relicAt any point before you tell Sargamis you have it, you can tell him you dont have the relic. All this does is kick you out of the conversation. The Oracle will still be standing there waiting for you to talk to him. You can ignore him, if you want, and just leave to Speak to Ofryc and end the quest.Attack SargamisAfter you tell the Oracle you found the bodies of the Aedyran Expedition, youll have a dialogue option at the bottom of the list that picks a fight.Sargamis isnt too strong, but he summons some really annoying Fire Blight Minions to fight alongside him. Once hes defeated, grab the Last Light of Day +2 from his corpse.Help SargamisIf you talk to him long enough and dont choose to attack him, the Oracle will eventually ask for your help. Hell have you put the relic in the statue and pull the lever at the workstation. It wont work, and Sargamis will decide he needs to add his soul to the statue. Youll be asked to observe the Oracles death, press the button at the workstation, and then pull the lever at the workstation. Sadly for Sargamis, this wont work either. His corpse will have his Last Light of Day +2 sword, though.Should you give the Voice the statue?Whichever way to deal with the Oracle even if you ignore him after Sargamis is dead, the Voice will ask to speak to you at the adra crystal on the west side of the courtyard. The Voice will explain that they could use the statue to do something. Maybe. One day.You can either go along with the Voices suggestion (giving it the statue) or not (destroying the statue).Give the Voice the StatueIf you want to let it, follow its instructions to place the relic in the statue and purge the energies in it. Thats it, and theres no immediate payoff. From there, you can return to Ofryc to finish the side quest.Destroy the StatueIf you dont want the Voice to have the Statue, you can choose to destroy it. The Voice wont be happy about it, but it wont interfere. Go around and destroy the three essence generators to overload the statue and destroy it.The Voice will yell one more time, but then youll be able to head back to Ofryc. How to finish DawntreaderOver on the west side of the Oracles temple, youll find an elevator that will take you to Dawnshore. From there, you can make your way back to Paradis. Either the Paradis Main Gate Beacon or the Administration District Beacon will drop you close to Ofryc.Youll find Ofryc and Caedmon waiting outside of the Aedyran Embassy. Talk to them to get the Delvers Caution ring as a reward. For more Avowed guides, see our full Avowed walkthroughs or our walkthroughs for the Cabin Fever and Mapping the Living Lands: Dawnshore.

  • Gundam Assemble miniatures game will start small, Bandai says
    www.polygon.com
Bandai Spirits first announced its Gundam Assemble miniatures game in January, setting off a firestorm of speculation among fans. The giant toy robot models are finally being shrunken down to the size of tabletop miniatures, and a new tabletop skirmish game is on the way. But with little more than a brief trailer to go on, consumers have largely been left in the dark. Polygon recently spoke with the Japanese development team via translator, and weve learned that the toy arm of the multinational entertainment company Bandai Namco isnt ready to take any options off the table. The game that Bandai shows off in the trailer looks to have a similar footprint to card-based skirmish miniatures games like Warhammer Underworlds, which also uses a grid for movement. Representatives from Bandai told Polygon that the smaller footprint was indeed inspired by games like these, but also by more traditional board games like Catan. They clearly want Gundam Assemble to fit on a kitchen table not the lunchroom-sized 8-footers that wargames like Warhammer 40,000 are usually played on.Thats because the goal is to introduce Gunpla those giant, articulated robot models that Bandai alone can expertly craft to the wider, global audience of tabletop gamers.Gundam Assemble is a tabletop strategy game where players use miniature Gunpla figures to create armies and engage in tactical battles, said Tatsuro Kawashima, who built the mechanical system that the game is based on. The core gameplay is focusing on the strategic unit placement, actually playing these objective-based missions. So it is designed to appeal to both hardcore miniatures gamers and the casual fan of the Gundam franchises. The game draws inspiration from miniature wargames from 40K, to BattleTech, to Star Wars: Shatterpoint. Bandai is aiming to create an experience thats accessible for new players while allowing strategic depth for the seasoned gamer.Bandai explained that players will be in control of a Gundam team. They will then use that team to play through a story-driven campaign with objectives linking individual missions.I think its most similar to BattleTech [] but so far its a little bit difficult to [share] the details, said Kawashima. The basic concept is to play a big team featuring your favorite mobile suits. However, since this is a game based on Gundam IP, we also want to offer special scenarios, limited battles that evoke the original storyline to help the player to feel connected to the source material. As far as terrain or other accessories, Bandai has not yet finalized what will come with Gundam Assemble The final product will likely include the game board, dice, and cards that show the details of each unit in-game and in-fiction, including details like Gundam height. While hex-based movement is integral to the game at this time, Bandai said that it hasnt ruled out other gameplay modes that use rulers or other tools to allow units to move more freely. That means massed battles of Gunpla could be on the horizon but for now, at least, the company is laser-focused on this smaller footprint game. For the designers at Bandai, it was particularly important to translate the intricate detail of their large, elaborate models to the smaller size of a tabletop miniature. That meant actually making them a bit bigger than traditional 28 mm- or 32 mm-scale models. At 5 centimeters (roughly 2 inches) tall, each Gunpla miniature will tower over a traditional 40K Assault Intercessor, and will even have a bit of reach on a Captain in Gravis armor.Theyre also very highly detailed. Many of the models in this Assemble kit are based on existing High Grade Gunpla [kits], said Jun Someya, a member of the Gundam Assemble planning and development staff. In order to efficiently create cool poses with a small number of parts, the angle of the arms has been carefully adjusted. For parts that would not otherwise be visible, they were purposefully omitted or molded [in place].Of course, most model-makers dont paint their Gunpla. Tabletop gamers often do paint their miniatures, though, and Bandai is hoping its design will cater to their unique needs especially folks who are looking to build up their shelf army.We thought the size would satisfy customers who display their individual miniatures, Someya said. Also, the size would be perfect for painting Gundams, which have very small faces and armor plates. Maybe it would be bigger than other products, but we felt that 5 centimeters would be perfect for both these purposes.Expect more information on Gundam Assemble soon. Early figures will be sold in special bundles with the Gundam Card Game which Bandai confirmed is a completely separate product.
