• Traditional Korean straw with modern twist protects perfume bottles
    www.yankodesign.com
Most of the packaging for perfume bottles are boxes. Of course its probably the most secure one that you can have to make sure that the bottles are protected and that the branding is pretty obvious. There have been a lot of innovations when it comes to packaging but most are still in the traditional box form or something similar to that. Korean perfume brand Sukhino commissioned design company with BKID co to create something different for their special collaboration with the Onyang Folk Museum which showcases the traditional life and culture of rural Koreans. Designer: BKID coThe special perfume collaboration was for a fall exhibition at the museum and let users experience the smell of books. This is a come on for book lovers who love to sniff both old and new books. The perfume itself uses plant ingredients. So with those elements in play, its interesting to see what packaging it will come in, aside from the actual bottle. BKID co proposed using the traditional zip-pul craft which is used to store eggs and other fragile materials, but with a more modern and sophisticated approach. Using traditional Korean straw, the packaging encases the perfume just like it would other fragile materials. The back part of the perfume is the one that is encased while the front part has two lines of straw on top and at the bottom so that the branding is still seen. There some straws bunched together as well at the top and the bottom while a holder ties everything together. This way you can carry the perfume around, hopefully, securely. There are several variations to the packaging like the normal version, a uni strap option, and a tied strap variant which seems to be the most secure based on the renders. The modern addition to the traditional straw is that there are more colorful options to match the different scents or to just add a splash of color to the perfume. Having a straw packaging to support the bottle means you can also easily carry the bottle in your bag more securely, without the bulkiness of regular boxes. It would also be interesting to see how this kind of packaging would look like with other bottles and other fragile materials that would need some Korean straw to support it. • TeslaTakeover protests are small, but numerous
    www.theverge.com
Today marked a second weekend of scattered protests at Tesla showrooms, following a TeslaTakeover hashtag that has been trending on Twitter alternative Bluesky this week. Protestors messages largely focused on the divisive efforts of Tesla CEO Elon Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency since the start of Donald Trumps Presidency. The protests dont appear to be especially large, but they are numerous, ranging from places like New York to lesser-known locales like Minneapolis, Minnesota suburb Golden Valley. A section of Action Networks site for organizing protests shows rallies planned for cities in Ohio, Florida, Washington, New Mexico, and Alberta, Canada.Tesla investors have expressed concern that Musks activities are negatively impacting the company, which saw its stock price plummet by 21 percent since Trumps inauguration according to an ABC story this week. Inside the company, employees and senior staff said in a recent meeting that the company would be better off if Musk resigned, The Washington Post reported. One of the larger rallies today was outside of Teslas Manhattan showroom, where a previous protest took place on February 9th. In the videos below, people can be heard chanting, Dont buy swasticars and Elon Musk can go to Mars; we dont need your Nazi cars, perhaps referencing Musks support for far-right groups like Germanys AfD party or his suspicious salute on Inauguration Day.Other posts showed what protests looked like today in Berkeley, California:San Francisco, California:Minneapolis, Minnesota:And Kansas City, Missouri:Similar gatherings occurred in Austin, Texas; Seattle, Washington; and Boston, Massachusetts. Meanwhile, few appear to have shown up today in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:Or Baltimore, Maryland, where a single person held a sign outside a Tesla showroom:Actor, director, and progressive activist Alex Winter, who heavily promoted this weekends protests over the last few days, posted an image of himself holding a sign urging people to sell their Teslas at a protest in Pasadena, California:Winter re-shared posts from protests at Tesla showrooms in the California cities Corte Madera, San Jose, and Los Angeles, along with others from people whod posted about rallies in Rockville, Maryland; Tucscon, Arizona; and Golden Valley, Minnesota. There are many posts on Bluesky with the #TeslaTakeover hashtag, but far fewer show up when searching X, Instagram, or Threads. Outside of picketing, others protested Musk in different ways. Musician Sheryl Crow posted a video of a Tesla being driven away on a flatbed truck, along with a message saying There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla, and noting that she had donated the money to NPR, which is currently threatened by an FCC investigation into public media.More protests are expected, including during the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, with one set for Lowell, Maine and at least one other in Richmond, Virginia. Those are in addition to numerous demonstrations planned this weekend that dont target Tesla showrooms but still relate to the actions of Musk, DOGE, and President Trump more broadly.See More:

  • DeepSeek AI Introduces CODEI/O: A Novel Approach that Transforms Code-based Reasoning Patterns into Natural Language Formats to Enhance LLMs Reasoning Capabilities
    www.marktechpost.com
Large Language Models (LLMs) have advanced significantly in natural language processing, yet reasoning remains a persistent challenge. While tasks such as mathematical problem-solving and code generation benefit from structured training data, broader reasoning taskslike logical deduction, scientific inference, and symbolic reasoningsuffer from sparse and fragmented data. Traditional approaches, such as continual pretraining on code, often embed reasoning signals implicitly, making it difficult for models to generalize. Even text-to-code generation methods remain constrained by syntax-specific learning, limiting their applicability beyond programming-related tasks. A more structured approach is needed to expose LLMs to fundamental reasoning patterns while preserving logical rigor.DeepSeek AI Research presents CODEI/O, an approach that converts code-based reasoning into natural language. By transforming raw code into an input-output prediction format and expressing reasoning steps through Chain-of-Thought (CoT) rationales, CODEI/O allows LLMs to internalize core reasoning processes such as logic flow planning, decision tree traversal, and modular decomposition. Unlike conventional methods, CODEI/O separates reasoning from code syntax, enabling broader applicability while maintaining logical structure.Technical Overview and BenefitsCODEI/O follows a structured data processing pipeline:Collecting Raw Code Files: Over 450K functions were gathered from multiple sources, including algorithm repositories and educational programming datasets.Standardizing the Data: The collected code was refined using DeepSeek-V2.5, ensuring clarity and execution compatibility.Generating Input-Output Pairs: Functions were executed with varying inputs to create structured training examples across diverse reasoning tasks.Generating Chain-of-Thought Reasoning: Using models like DeepSeek-V2.5, natural language explanations were generated to provide structured reasoning.Verification and Refinement: Predictions were validated through execution, with incorrect responses revised iteratively to improve reasoning accuracy.Key Features of CODEI/O:Transformative Learning: Converts diverse code patterns into natural language CoT rationales, making reasoning transferable beyond programming contexts.Syntax-Decoupled Learning: Separates logical reasoning from code syntax, improving adaptability across reasoning tasks.Multi-Task Improvement: Enhances performance across symbolic, scientific, logical, mathematical, and commonsense reasoning domains.Verifiability: Predictions can be validated through cached ground-truth matching or re-execution.Iterative Refinement: A refined version, CODEI/O++, employs multi-turn revision to enhance reasoning accuracy.Empirical Results and PerformanceThe impact of CODEI/O was tested across four base models (ranging from 7B to 30B parameters) on 14 reasoning benchmarks covering logic, symbolic inference, mathematics, scientific deduction, and commonsense reasoning.Findings:Consistent Improvements: CODEI/O training led to higher scores across reasoning benchmarks compared to traditional pretraining methods.Generalization Across Tasks: Unlike existing approaches that improve specific tasks but degrade performance elsewhere, CODEI/O showed balanced enhancements.Comparison to Baselines: CODEI/O outperformed datasets such as OpenMathInstruct2, OpenCoder-SFT-Stage1, and WebInstruct.Effectiveness of Multi-Turn Refinement: CODEI/O++ further improved results by iteratively refining incorrect responses, leveraging execution feedback for better reasoning quality. For instance, in logical and symbolic reasoning benchmarks such as BBH and CruxEval, CODEI/O led to notable performance gains. In math reasoning tasks (GSM8K, MATH, and MMLU-STEM), it demonstrated improvements over existing baselines. Even in commonsense reasoning, where code-based methods typically struggle, CODEI/O maintained robust results.ConclusionCODEI/O presents a structured way to enhance LLMs reasoning by leveraging input-output transformations from real-world code. Instead of focusing on isolated reasoning tasks, it extracts universal reasoning patterns and translates them into natural language explanations. This structured learning approach ensures that models acquire robust reasoning skills across different domains. The introduction of multi-turn revision (CODEI/O++) further refines reasoning accuracy, demonstrating that iterative learning from execution feedback enhances model reliability. By making predictions verifiable, CODEI/O provides a scalable and reliable method for improving LLM reasoning.By bridging code-based and natural language reasoning, CODEI/O offers a promising direction for enhancing LLMs cognitive abilities beyond programming-related tasks.Check outthePaper and GitHub Page. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. 9to5toys.com
Theres loads of varying third party MagSafe wallets on the market, many of which offer more features than Apples official wallet. Apples MagSafe wallet comes in at $49, and is exclusively available in the less-than-ideal FineWoven material.MOFTs Magnetic Wallet Stand comes in at half the price, is made of vegan leather, and has a number of unique features.Youre readingTested with 9to5Toys, where we explore everyday tech essentials that make life a bit easier.Browse through our entire guidefor all of the latest reviews, and sound off in the comments below if theres something youd like to see featured.Hands-on with MOFTs Magnetic Wallet StandFirst things first, this wallet features a stand, unlike many options on the market. This lets you to easily prop up your iPhone for watching videos, and allows you to easily stand it up next to you on a table. It comes in handy. Behind the kickstand, theres a neat slot that allows you to fit up to 3 cards, at least in my experience. MOFT officially states that you can only fit 1-2, but I have two credit cards plus my drivers license in there with no issue. Three credit cards does get a bit tight, though. MOFT offers the wallet in up to 24 colors, giving you a ton of options to choose from. It can be bought on Amazon for $25.49 in all colors at the time of writing.Spec rundown:Wallet, stand, and grip in oneThree stand positions: landscape mode, portrait mode, floating mode (image below)Only 0.2 thickWeighs 60gIndustry leading Vegan Leather from MOVASStrong magnets, up to 3.4lb in strength9to5Toys TakeOut of all of the third party iPhone MagSafe wallets Ive tested over the years, this has to be one of my favorites. The built in stand makes it very versatile, and it still keeps a very sleek profile. The fact that it can fit the three cards Id need to carry without issue is also a cherry on top.Ive been using it for about a month, and the only negative thing I can say about it is this: Ive already started to notice a little bit of creasing where you fold the wallet to become a stand. This isnt necessarily a surprise, but its something worth mentioning. Otherwise, the wallet has held up remarkably well, which you cant say for Apples FineWoven wallet after a month of use.Overall, Id highly recommend this wallet to anyone who was considering buying a MagSafe wallet of sorts. Obviously, theres the limitation that you can only fit a small number of cards on the back of your iPhone while not being bulky, so thatll stop a lot of people from purchasing a MagSafe wallet in the first place. However, if that isnt a problem for you, this is a lovely purchase. Its highly versatile.I find great use in its ability to serve as a stand, whether that be for playing a YouTube video in the kitchen in floating mode, or just keeping my phone stood up at my desk in portrait mode. I think you would too.Buy the MOFT Magnetic Wallet Stand $25.49FTC: 9to5Toys is reader supported, we may earn income on affiliate links Subscribe to the 9to5Toys YouTube Channel for all of the latest videos, reviews, and more!

    www.forbes.com
StrandsNYTLooking for Fridays Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here:This is one of those days where I have zero knowledge on a subject and I just have to find the words through clues alone, which is not super fun, but I got it done. How To Play StrandsThe New York Times Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. Its in beta for now, which means itll only stick around if enough people play it every day.Theres a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and youll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.Youll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.Be warned: Youll need to be on your toes. Some themes are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They may also be steps in a process, items that all belong to the same category, synonyms or homophones, The New York Times notes.
