Here Are Some Fun Facts about GTA San Andreas "Insides"GTA San Andreas turned 20 in October, and this is a great reason to celebrate all year long. By now, fans know most of the in-game stuff, but there are some technical details that you might have missed. Thankfully, X/Twitter user @TJGM_ collected them in a thread, so you don't have to search too much. For example, SA features road signs that can only have one set of textures per model, so to make sure they show different information, Rockstar developed a font rendering system as part of the 2DFX section."This would render text and symbols from this basic font texture in-game," TJGM helpfully provided. "2DFX data is stored in models, so underneath every road sign theres obviously a road, and that road model is unique to that specific location. They would then add the 2DFX data to the road model and offset its location so it would be placed in front of the road sign."Learn more about other interesting details: https://80.lv/articles/here-are-some-fun-facts-about-gta-san-andreas-insides/

Re @VertexRage When approaching image-based displacement, Pixabay photos is a good start. That said, since statistical image generation exists, it's your choice whether to use it and to what extent. For instance, I think it's fine to generate depth maps this way. The source images? Up to you.

  • Dutch Consumer Group Sues Sony Over Articicially Inflated Prices
    cgshares.com
SonyThe Dutch consumer foundation Stichting Massaschade & Consument has filed a class action lawsuit against PlayStation over the company setting high prices for its games and in-game content. The foundation claims (via Dutch News), Sony charges excessive prices for digital games in its PlayStation Store by abusing its dominant position in the console market. As said by the organization, the move from physical game discs to digital copies can only be conducted through Sonys PlayStation Store, and it has led to the company setting up a Sony tax, which the foundation wants to claim back. Thus, according to the group, the prices are set to 47% more for digital copies of games. For digital PlayStation content, Sony is the only remaining retailer, eliminating any form of price competition, notes Lucia Melcherts, chair of Stichting Massaschade & Consument. She points out that game creators have to comply with Sonys terms, which include prices for their games in the PlayStation Store, while at the same time, the game company itself has reduced its costs, as there are no expenses on physical stores or transportation. Thus, these circumstances led to artificially inflated prices. As noted by the consumer group, other game stores like Microsoft and Epic Games are not exclusively tied to a device that controls the majority of the market, which makes them actively compete for users.Dont forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our new Discord server, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, TikTok, and Threads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Dutch Consumer Group Sues Sony Over Articicially Inflated Prices appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • 30% of Black Myth: Wukong Players Arent From China, the Games Art Director Says
    cgshares.com
Whether you see it as a AA or AAA title, Game Sciences Black Myth: Wukong was undeniably one of the few major releases that didnt disappoint the gaming community in 2024, boasting solid sales numbers and high review scores on Steam and Metacritic. However, the games critics often attributed its success to its home country, China, suggesting that without the countrys enormous population, Wukong wouldnt be pulling in such substantial revenue or claiming the Players Voice Award at The Game Awards 2024. Recently, the games Art Director and Co-Founder of Game Science Yang Qi unintentionally addressed these critiques, revealing just how successful the action RPG would have been without factoring in the Chinese market.Game ScienceSpeaking at the West Lake Art Forum held at the School of Animation and Games of the China Academy of Art, Yang mentioned that 30% of the games player base comes from outside China, a figure that surprised the team, considering international players might not be familiar with or feel connected to the cultural content of the game.According to the developer, while players from abroad might not understand Wukongs design of spaces, styles, stories, and performance, they can still appreciate the core content as long as the logic behind it is consistent and resonates with common experiences. Familiarity and strangeness form a scale, Yang explained, conforming to the philosophy of The Doctrine of the Mean, one of the Four Books of classical Chinese philosophy, whose central theme is that doing things impartially is the highest ethical standard.30% and ancient philosophy are all well and good, but how does that translate to revenues? Lets do the math: as per Niko Partners January 30 report, Black Myth: Wukong sold 25 million copies, and provided Yangs information is correct, 30% of those sales, or 7.5 million copies, came from outside China.Considering the games base price of $60 and, for the sake of argument, halving it to $30 to account for Steam fees, regional price adjustments, and other factors, those 7.5 million copies would rake in around $225 million. The resulting figure is enough to cover the games $70 million production budget (development and marketing included) three times over, proving that Black Myth: Wukong would still be a success even without Chinese players.Click here to read Yang Qis full interview (in Chinese) and dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post 30% of Black Myth: Wukong Players Arent From China, the Games Art Director Says appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • First DC Universe Game Won't Be Revealed Soon, But Some "Really Interesting" Projects Are Coming
    www.gamespot.com
With the arrival of a new Superman movie later this year, the new DC Universe continues to grow on film and television. But what about the video games? According to DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran, DCU games are still in development, but they're still years away from being released."We work incredibly closely with [Global Streaming and Games CEO] JB Perrette, who runs that division, and it's really the first time it's ever been this way at Warner Brothers," Safran said to IGN. "James and I sit with literally the guys that run the studios underneath JB, whether it's NetherRealm or whether it's Rocksteady, sit with them and talk about characters and stories that we're interested in and that they're interested in."It's worth mentioning that there is a difference between a DCU game and a game based on the characters of DC Comics. The DC Universe is essentially the umbrella term encompassing the new shared universe overseen by Gunn and Saffran, which includes characters like the new live-action Superman, the Creature Commandos, and a new silver screen incarnation of Batman who'll be introduced in The Brave and the Bold. To make things slightly more confusing, Matt Reeves' The Batman is part of its own continuity, the, The Batman Epic Crime Saga, that includes The Penguin and an upcoming Clayface project.Continue Reading at GameSpot
