11 March 2025/ SF News/ Joe KukuraTestimony Reveals Doors Would Not Open on Cybertruck That Caught Fire in Piedmont, Killing ThreeThe Highway Patrols investigation into a November Cybertruck crash in Piedmont where three college kids died is finding two very Tesla problems: the vehicle immediately caught fire, and its doors would not open.A November Tesla Cybertruck crash in Piedmont killed three college sophomores when the vehicle hit a cement wall and burst into flames, but another motorist was able to pull a fourth rider out of the car, and that rider survived. We later learned the other motorist was Piedmont High grad Matt Riordan, whod been attending a party that night with the crash victims. And we also learned the three victims had alcohol and cocaine in their systems, while the 19-year-old Cybertruck driver who died also had meth in his system. So the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has since blamed the crash itself on intoxication, and the high speed at which the vehicle was traveling on a small, residential road. So that would seem to rule out any kind of snafu on the part of Tesla self-driving technology.But the Bay Area News Group has been going through the testimony of the CHP investigation. And the deaths appear to be more the result of the vehicle fire, as opposed to drugs, or injuries the victims sustained in the crash. And troublingly, that testimony also showed the Cybertrucks doors could not be opened in the aftermath of the crash, preventing Riordan from pulling the other three victims from the flaming wreckage. Roirdan said that when he approached the burning vehicle, and tried to open the doors, they would not open. He said he pulled for a few seconds, but nothing budged at all. He also said I then tried the button on the windshield of [survivor Jordan Millers] door, then [victim Krysta Tsukaharas] door.He said he then pounded the windows with his fists, which did not work, and then struck the windows with a thick tree branch around a dozen times until he was able to crack and dislodge a passenger-side window. That was how he was able to pull Jordan Miller out of the vehicle. But when he attempted to pull Tsukahara from that same window, Riordan testified, "I grabbed her arm to try and pull her towards me, but she retreated because of the fire."In another heartbreaking detail, we learned that the crash happened when the Cybertruck was just two blocks from the home that the victims were heading to.The CHPs investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Citibank revealed in court filings on Wednesday that the FBI, the EPA, the EPA Inspector General, and the Treasury Department have all requested that the bank freeze accounts of several nonprofits and state government agencies.The accounts were frozen in February, but the new documents make public details that had previously been unknown, including a full list of the nonprofits under FBI scrutiny.The funds were disbursed as part of the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which was created by the Inflation Reduction Act, a law passed by Congress in 2022. Of that, the EPA received $14 billion for a National Clean Investment Fund, which provides grants to green banks.Green banks use those funds to provide financing for clean technology projects around the country. Startups that have technologies that are ready to scale commercially were eligible to receive financing to make projects a reality.The funding was mostly to be used for loans, which were to be paid back and recycled for future lending. Green banks tend to have delinquency rates on par with commercial and residential portfolios held by other commercial lenders.Citibank was selected as the financial agent to administer that money, holding it in accounts under the names of the awardees. It is also administering a separate, $6 billion Clean Communities Investment Accelerator program. The EPAs contract with Citibank was publicly announced in April 2024.The FBI has requested that Citibank place 30-day administrative freezes on accounts held by nonprofits that were recipients of the green bank funding. It also asked the bank to freeze other nonprofit and state government agency accounts, including Habitat for Humanity, United Way, the Colorado Clean Energy Fund, and New York States Department of Taxation and Finance.Three nonprofits that received green bank funds have sued Citibank, asking the bank to release the money in their accounts.EPA administrator Lee Zeldin has said that the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund doesnt align with the agencys priorities and that he has concerns about fraud, though he has not provided evidence to support that claim.

Still, we have more details on its specifications from regulatory filings.Galaxy S25 Edge FilingsShortly after Galaxy Unpacked In January, the Galaxy S25 Edge was spotted in the Chinese regulators database of upcoming products. Key specifications were listed, including a 3,786 mAh battery (which would likely be listed as 3,900 mAh on consumer spec sheets). Numerous smartphones offer both Chinese and Global variants, so a listing in China is not a blanket confirmation.Now, we have a second regulatory filing thanks to Denmarks National Certification Body, UL Solutions. It also lists the Galaxy S25 Edge battery size as the same 3,786 mAh.Assuming this is the final specification, Samsung is taking a bit of a risk here. Flagship smartphones are looking at the 5,000 mAh mark. Samsung is no exception with the S25 Ultra in the 5,000 mAh club. Elsewhere in the range, the vanilla Galaxy S25 sports a 4,000 mAh battery and the S25+ has 4,900 mAh.Galaxy S25 Edge ImpactThe Galaxy S25 Edge, with its ultra-thin form factor, is looking to push the limits of physical design to create a fashionable look. There is no doubt that the internal volume of the Edge is smaller than the S25 Ultra; given the numbers, its likely to be a close but still less than the vanilla Galaxy S25.Will the market accept that? Fashion-focused phones are not unknown and have intrinsic appeal to a small segment of the community. For most, the regular phones will be more than sufficient.
