WWW.GADGETS360.COMMastercard, Kraken Team Up to Scale Card-Based Crypto Spending in UK, EuropeMastercard is taking a significant step toward broadening the use of crypto assets across Europe and the UK. The global payments leader has partnered with crypto exchange Kraken to facilitate card-based crypto payments for everyday purchases. The collaboration was officially announced in a blog post published by Mastercard on April 8. With its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations, the European Union is already one of the most tightly regulated crypto markets globally. Meanwhile, the UK is expected to finalise its own comprehensive crypto legislation by 2026.In the coming weeks, Kraken will be launching both physical and digital debit cards to facilitate payments through crypto. As part of the partnership, UK and Europe-based Kraken users will be allowed to make crypto payments to over 150 million merchants who accept Mastercard. Both, Mastercard and Kraken are attempting to narrow the gap between traditional finance and crypto assets, the announcement claimed."Our customers want to be able to easily pay for real-world goods and services with their cryptocurrencies or stablecoins. Our partnership with Mastercard is a major step in realising this vision," said David Ripley, Co-CEO of Kraken. In January, Kraken launched a feature to let users process P2P transactions through both, crypto as well as fiat currencies. Mastercard, in its announcement, said that this partnership follows the market success of this feature."In just 90 days, over 200,000 Kraken customers have activated their 'Kraktag' and are sending money worldwide as easily as a text message," the post noted.Mastercard said it is determined to expand digital payment possibilities and keep up with the globally evolving financial landscape."With a shared ambition to simplify, interoperate, and secure the digital asset ecosystem, we are proud to collaborate with Kraken and bring real value to their user base," said Scott Abrahams, Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships at Mastercard.Over the last few years, Mastercard has taken multiple steps to foray into crypto services. The company has partnered with Floki Inu, 1inch, and Swoo Pay among others. In September 2023, Mastercard and Binance ended four crypto card programmes in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Bahrain. At the time, neither company disclosed specific reasons for ending the partnership. Previously, the collaboration had introduced Binance Cards, which allowed users to convert their crypto assets into traditional currencies for everyday transactions. WWW.GADGETS360.COMAadhaar App With Facial Recognition-Based Authentication Unveiled by UIDAIThe Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled a redesigned Aadhaar app for smartphones that scans a user's face to confirm their identity. According to the UIDAI the new app is designed to enable digital verification via a QR code and the camera on a user's smartphone, without the need to submit photocopies of a user's Aadhaar card. The app could eventually speed up the process of identity verification, but concerns around the use of biometrics for authentication continue to linger.UIDAI Conducts Testing of Revamped Aadhaar AppThe new app was showcased at Aadhaar Samvaad, the stakeholder meeting with ecosystem partners, that was held in Delhi on Tuesday. At the event, the UIDAI demonstrated the revamped Aadhaar app, which integrates its Aadhaar Face Authentication system that scans a user's face to confirm their identity.According to the UIDAI, the new Aadhaar app allows users with an Aadhaar card to authenticate themselves without carrying a physical version of the card, or sharing photocopies of the document with a service provider. Once the app is set up on a user's smartphone, it can be used to securely verify their identity and no details are shared with the provider.A video showcasing the capabilities of the new Aadhaar app sheds some light on the authentication process. When presented with a QR code or an application that requests identity verification, the Aadhaar app will prompt users to enter their security PIN to unlock the app and begin authentication.Users will then be presented with a masked, digital version of their Aadhaar card in the app. They can scan a QR code, which shows the information (for e.g. name, date of birth, and masked mobile number) requested by the service provider, which can be a hotel reception desk or a shop.If a user chooses to go ahead with the authentication process, the app will prompt them to position their face in a circle in the middle of the screen. The app requires a user to blink in order to complete the authentication process, and a confirmation message is displayed to inform the user that their identity has been verified. While the redesigned Aadhaar app might streamline the authentication process and cut down on the use of physical documents, experts have warned about the security of user's biometric information on centralised servers. Facial biometrics, fingerprints, and iris scans are immutable and cannot be changed — unlike passwords and security codes — and leaks could put enrolled users at risk of identity theft and other forms of misuse. The UIDAI says that the redesigned Aadhaar app will protect users against forgery (or editing) and data is only shared with a user's consent, according to the UIDAI. It has been released to a small group of testers and will be rolled out widely in the future, after feedback is received from testers and ecosystem partners. WWW.GADGETS360.COMDinosaurs Weren’t Doomed Before the Asteroid Hit, New Research SuggestsPhoto Credit: Wikimedia Commons Dinosaurs peaked 76 million years ago, then declined after the asteroid impact Highlights Dinosaurs were thriving before the asteroid hit Fossil and Climate data show no signs of decline Catastrophic impact caused abrupt mass extinction Advertisement Scientists say that dinosaurs weren't doomed when an asteroid hit Earth. Fossil unearthings before the asteroid collision, at the end of the Cretaceous epoch, show that dinosaurs were losing variety and numbers. At first, some scientists thought this alteration showed dinosaurs were headed toward extinction even before the fatal asteroid incident. Nevertheless, this concept has long been argumentative, with other researchers insisting that dinosaur diversity was doing just fine at the time of their loss of life.Challenging the Long-Held NarrativeAccording to a report by Live Science, the visible rarity of dinosaurs before their extinction may merely be due to a low fossil record. Emphasizsng four families—that is, the Ankylosauridae, Ceratopsidae, Hadrosauridae, and Tyrannosauridae—the studies of the scientists reveal records of approximately 8,000 fossils from North America dating to the Campanian age (83.6 million to 72.1 million years ago) and Maastrichtian age (72.1 million to 66 million years ago).Th range of dinosaurs peaked 76 million years ago and started to shrink after the asteroid collision wiped off the nonavian dinosaurs. This drift was more pronounced than in the 6 million years before the mass annihilation, with the number of fossils from all four families reducing in the geological record.Fossil Records and Statistical Models Paint a New PictureVegetation either covered or obscured geological outcrops from the Maastrichtian period in North America. Specifically, rock from this time that might contain dinosaur fossils was not easily accessible to the researchers who were searching for them. The study's encapsulation might also have worldwide branching due to North America being home to half of the familiar fossils from this age.A Catastrophic Exception, Not a Gradual EndThere is no evidence of environmental conditions or other aspects that would specifically elaborate the reason of this decline, the researchers landed. All of the dinosaur broods were far-flung, as per models come into being developed by the researchers — and consequently at low risk for extinction, barring a catastrophic event such as the asteroid effect. In the group of 8,000 fossil records evaluated, the team found that ceratopsians—a group that includes horned dinosaurs like Triceratops and its relatives — were the most common; most likely, they inhabited plain regions that were most conducive to preservation during the Maastrichtian era. WWW.GADGETS360.COMGoogle Pixel Watch 3 Reportedly Gets Loss of Pulse Detection Feature With Latest Update in the USPhoto Credit: Google Google introduced this feature last year on the Pixel Watch 3 but the rollout did not include the US Highlights April 2025 update brings Loss of Pulse Detection to Pixel Watch 3 It can detect absence of pulse and alert emergency services The feature requires a paired phone or an active LTE network to function Advertisement Google is said to have rolled out a health-tracking feature for the Pixel Watch 3 in the US which was previously limited to the European markets. According to a report, users can now take advantage of the Loss of Pulse Detection feature which keeps a check on the wearer's heart rate and allows the smartwatch to contact emergency services if it detects any abnormalities or doesn't detect a heartbeat at all.Loss of Pulse Detection Comes to Pixel Watch 39to5Google reports that Loss of Pulse Detection is now arriving on the Pixel Watch 3 following the April 2025 update which Google rolled out on Monday. The Android 15-based Wear OS 5.1 update brings the software version to BP1A.250305.019.W7. While it mostly contains bug fixes, the report states that users in the US can now access the health tracking feature. As per the company, the feature can call emergency services on the user's behalf if a pulse isn't detected, even if they are unconscious. It can monitor the lack of a pulse due to various factors such as pulmonary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning. If a pulse isn't detected, the Google Pixel Watch 3 will vibrate and check in with the wearer to see if they need help. It is automatically dismissed if the smartwatch detects movement or a pulse. If not, it will place a call to emergency services with an automated message that shares the wearer's location and informs them of the loss of pulse. The feature was first introduced for the Pixel Watch 3 last year but was limited to the European markets. Last month, it was said to have received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), enabling Google to introduce it to the smartwatch in the US. However, it requires the Pixel Watch 3 Wi-Fi model to be connected and in range of a smartphone. Meanwhile, the LTE models require an active LTE carrier to place emergency calls. However, the company emphasises that the Loss of Pulse Detection feature may not always be able to detect a loss of pulse. Further, it cannot predict or determine the cause of a loss of pulse. WWW.GADGETS360.COMMajor Disruption Has Left Arctic Polar Vortex Away from North Pole, Scientists AlertA massive disruption to the Arctic polar vortex has pushed the ring of wind that circles the North Pole away from its perch and toward Europe. Scientists predict that the migration will cause colder-than-average temperatures in portions of the continent and the eastern United States in the next week. On March 9, the polar vortex began to drift off course when its powerful winds suddenly turned from west to east to blow in the opposite direction. Though this change generally occurs in mid-April, this year's reversal occurred remarkably early based on a blog article made April 3 by NOAA.Scientists Observe Displacement of Arctic Polar VortexAccording to the officials of NOAA, “the polar vortex is not likely to find its normal location above the North Pole.” It is doubtful it will recover its wintertime strength and will ultimately "enter hibernation" over Northern Europe. As the polar vortex fades, temperatures in Northern Europe, portions of Asia, and the eastern United States will be below average. "Temperatures for the last week of March were pretty normal across the eastern US, but the latest forecasts do predict increased chances of below-normal temperatures for the next week," they reported. How the Vortex Disruption Impacts Weather GloballyIf global warming is influencing the polar vortex, it could paradoxically increase the likelihood of catastrophic winter weather outbreaks in the mid-latitudes.Among the options is that the "preferred" position of the polar vortex might be sensitive to local changes in sea ice cover. One study, for instance, connected the decline in sea ice extent in February in the Barents and Kara Seas in the eastern Arctic to a change in the polar vortex toward Eurasia between the 1980s and the 2000s. Along with the vortex shift, winters were colder than usual in Siberia and the mid-latitudes of central Eurasia. Is there a link to climate change?Overland stated, "Every way people have tried to look at this question has produced some evidence for a connection and some evidence against a connection." One study team will find that Arctic sea ice loss is upsetting the atmospheric circulation in ways that result in harsh mid-latitude winters. Another team would contend that the peculiar patterns of air circulation come first and cause both the cold winters over the mid-latitude continents and the warm Arctic. From Overland's perspective, insufficient data exists either way to either support or reject the hypothesis. What Comes Next?A massive disruption to the Arctic polar vortex has pushed the ring of wind that circles the North Pole away from its perch and toward Europe, according to a new animation.Climate analysts say it would bring about below-average temperatures over the eastern United States next week and many areas of the country. On March 9, the polar vortex wobbled and then snapped back the other way as mighty winds, suddenly shifting from the west to the east - something that typically happens once a year - usually in the middle of April, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) blog post on April 3, 2020. This year, it happened pretty early. For the latest tech news and reviews, follow Gadgets 360 on X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Google News. WWW.GADGETS360.COMFirst Future Type 1a Supernova Detected: White Dwarf Pair to Collide in 23 Billion YearsPhoto Credit: University of Warwick/Mark Garlick First Future Type 1a Supernova Detected: White Dwarf Pair to Collide in 23 Billion Years Highlights White dwarf pair likely to become Type 1a supernova Stars orbit each other in 14 hours, tightening over time Supernova will aid cosmic distance measurements Advertisement Two pair of compact white dwarf stars were located around 150 light-years from Earth. They have been identified by a group of astronomers. The two stars are orbiting each other. They are believed to be on course to eventually merge together. The collision is expected to take place in roughly 23 billion years. A Type 1a supernova is likely to result from this merger. This is the first time such a system which is destined to follow this path, has been clearly observed near our region of the galaxy.First direct evidence linked to future Type 1a supernovaAccording to a study published in Nature, the system has a combined mass equal to about 1.56 times that of the sun. Such a high mass has confirmed that an eventual explosion is unavoidable. The heavier of the two stars is expected to draw matter from its lighter companion as their orbit gradually tightens. The investigation has been carried out by a team from the University of Warwick using data from large optical telescopes.Closer orbit to drive merger over timeJames Munday, PhD researcher and lead author of the study, shared in a press statement released to Space.com that the team acted quickly to verify the compactness of the system. Measurements revealed the stars currently orbit each other in just over 14 hours. Over time, the orbit is predicted to reduce to less than a minute. At that point, the final stages before the explosion will be reached.Wider impact on cosmic measurementsDr Ingrid Pelisoli. Assistant Professor at the University of Warwick and co-author, stated to Space.com that the proximity of this system suggests similar pairs might not be uncommon. Type 1a supernovas are considered useful to astronomers. Their consistent brightness allows measurements of vast distances in space. WWW.GADGETS360.COMTropical Tree in Panama Evolves Shocking Defense, Strikes Rivals with Lightning BoltsLightning is commonly considered a sign of disaster in the forest, as lightning kills or damages trees. On the lowlands of Panama, the tonka bean tree (Dipteryx oleifera) might have evolved to capitalize on this natural occurrence. New research suggests that lightning strikes could help the tonka bean tree (Dipteryx oleifera). According to Live Science research, these trees not only survive these electrical interactions unharmed, but the lightning also harms their competitors and the parasitic vines that cling to the tonka bean plants. The researchers published their findings on March 26 in the journal New Phytologist. Lightning is a major cause of tree mortality in tropical forests, particularly among the largest and oldest trees, which play important roles in carbon storage and biodiversity.Lightning as a Canopy WeaponOn average, each lightning hit destroyed over 2.4 tons (2 metric tons) of adjacent tree biomass and approximately 80 percent of the lianas (parasitic vines) that plagued the tonka bean canopy. As per Gora's assumption, the key to these trees' lightning resistance comes from their physical structure.A few studies describe the tree as having strong internal conductivity, letting lightning current flow through without building up damaging heat like a well-insulated wire. Because they tend to grow large — up to 130 feet (40 meters)—and live for centuries, a single tonka bean tree is estimated to be struck at least five times after reaching maturity. Each strike helps to clear out vines and competitors, opening up the canopy to help it thrive.Ecological Impact and Evolutionary MarvelGregory Moore, a horticulturalist from the University of Melbourne who was not involved in the study, thinks the results will apply to other species. "The sort of work could also apply to other tree-dominated plant communities, such as woodlands or low woodlands where trees are widely separated, so it's nothing like a tropical forest," he said, adding that other tall trees are also possible targets of lightning strikes.More Than Just a Tree"We have long known that some trees can withstand multiple lightning strikes," Moore said, noting that some tall trees survive Australian bushfires and grow up towering over their neighbors, making them prime targets for lightning strikes. "They are often referred to as stags because the top of the crown has been blown out, but they can survive for centuries after being hit by lightning," he added. WWW.GADGETS360.COMScientists Revive Dire Wolves Using Ancient DNA and Modern Gene EditingThree live dire wolf pups have been born using reconstructed DNA. The extinct species had last roamed North America around 12,500 years ago. The milestone was reached by a Dallas-based biotech firm that focuses on genetic conservation. Ancient DNA samples from fossilised remains were analysed. Modern gene-editing tools were used to mimic key characteristics of the extinct predator. These pups were brought to life by implanting modified embryos into domestic dog surrogates. The young wolves have been named Romulus, Remus and Khaleesi.Ancient DNA edited in lab to recreate speciesAccording to a study shared by Colossal Biosciences, DNA samples had been collected from two ancient dire wolf fossils. One was a 13,000-year-old tooth, while the other was a 72,000-year-old skull fragment. These fragments were compared to modern wolf relatives and grey wolves were chosen for DNA alteration because of their evolutionary proximity. Gene sequences that were found only in dire wolves were isolated. These were introduced into the DNA of grey wolves through targeted editing.Cloning technique used to implant embryosThe altered genetic material was inserted into grey wolf egg cells after removing their original nuclei. These prepared cells were placed inside domestic dogs. Each surrogate received multiple embryos. Interestingly, only one embryo survived in each of the first two dogs. Both gave birth by caesarean section, while the third pup was born in a second round of implantation.Physical traits match fossil recordThe new pups have been observed to develop features consistent with known dire wolf fossils. Thick white coats, larger teeth and body structure have been reported. These results came from identifying changes in 14 genes. The gene edits were introduced using CRISPR technology. The same company had previously cloned red wolves. The team had also created “woolly mice” as part of a mammoth revival effort. The successful dire wolf birth marks a new phase in gene-driven species restoration. For the latest tech news and reviews, follow Gadgets 360 on X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Google News. WWW.GADGETS360.COMWhatsApp for iOS Testing Advanced Chat Privacy Feature Which Prevents Media Auto-SavingPhoto Credit: Reuters It may prohibit participants in the same conversation from interacting with Meta AI Highlights The feature is reported in WhatsApp for iOS beta version 25.10.10.70 It prevents shared media from being auto-saved to the recipient's gallery The feature is still in development and not available to beta testers yet Advertisement WhatsApp is said to be developing a new feature for its iOS app which aims to improve privacy in conversations by adding another layer of security. As per a feature tracker, the new feature, dubbed Advanced Chat Privacy, implements several changes which restrict the automatic saving of media shared by the user on the recipient device. Additionally, it is said to prevent them from exporting entire chat histories involving conversations with a user who has the Advanced Chat Privacy feature enabled.WhatsApp's Advanced Chat Privacy Feature for iOSAccording to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, Meta Platforms' instant messaging client is developing the Advanced Chat Privacy feature for iOS for release on a future version of the app. It was spotted in WhatsApp Beta for iOS app version 25.10.10.70. Once it is enabled by the sender, the recipient receiving media files in a conversation will not be able to save them to their handset's gallery. However, Advanced Chat Privacy is said to be optional and can be switched on by navigating to the app's settings.Based on screenshots shared by the feature tracker, if the recipient tries to save the media, a Can't auto-save media pop-up will appear with the following description:“Advanced chat privacy has been turned on, and prevents media auto-saving to your device's gallery.”The feature tracker suggests that it might offer another functionality — restrictions on chat exports. It will prohibit exportation of chat histories containing conversation with people who have Advanced Chat Privacy enabled on their device. Further, it is also said to restrict users from interacting with Meta AI — WhatsApp's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. Notably, a similar feature was also recently reported to be in development for WhatsApp's Android equivalent. However, WABetaInfo states that Advanced Chat Privacy is still in development and is not available even to beta testers registered via Apple's TestFlight programme. It is speculated to be rolled out to WhatsApp for iOS beta users over the next few weeks. For the latest tech news and reviews, follow Gadgets 360 on X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Google News. WWW.GADGETS360.COMNASAs Parker Solar Probe Completes Second Close Flyby of the Sun at Record SpeedNASA's Parker Solar Probe has made its second close flyby of the sun. The spacecraft travelled at a speed of 692000 kilometres per hour. It moved within 6.1 million kilometres of the sun. This event took place on March 22. A signal confirming its good health was received on March 25. The signal confirmed that all systems on board were working as planned. The probe was designed to study solar winds and collect data from the sun's outer atmosphere. The mission is being used to help scientists understand solar activity that affects Earth.More About The MissionAccording to NASA's announcement, the probe's instruments were activated during the pass. They were used to study the corona. This is the outer layer of the sun's atmosphere. The spacecraft was operated on its own during the flyby. It had been programmed in advance. Scientists believe this data may help them understand why the corona is hotter than the sun's surface. The data is also being used to study changes in space weather. This information is considered important for protecting satellites and communication systems on Earth.Quote from NASAIn a press release issued by NASA, acting Administrator Janet Petro said that the mission has entered a zone no spacecraft has visited before. Petro said this while addressing the media at the agency's Washington headquarters. She said that the research is expected to change how solar science is studied in the future.Award given to the teamAs per a statement released by the National Aeronautic Association, the mission team was given the 2024 Robert J. Collier Trophy. The team includes experts from NASA and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Ralph Semmel, Director at Johns Hopkins APL, said that the mission was once believed to be impossible. He shared this in an interview with NASA's press team. The next close flyby is expected to take place on June 19.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 60 Views

WWW.GADGETS360.COMRussian Kosmos Satellites Release Mysterious Object in OrbitPhoto Credit: Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation Russian satellites launched this year have drawn global attention HighlightsRussian satellites Kosmos 2581, 2582, and 2583 launched in early FebruaryThe satellites are orbiting at around 585 km in a near-polar orbitOn March 18, a mysterious object was released from one of the satellitesAdvertisementA group of Russian satellites launched earlier this year has caught the attention of space watchers around the world. The satellites Kosmos 2581, 2582, and 2583 were sent into orbit in early February from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. They've been placed in a near-polar orbit, about 585 kilometres above Earth. So far, Russian officials haven't confirmed what these satellites are actually meant to do. But what's really stirred interest is the release of an unknown object from one of them. This new development, spotted in mid-March, has prompted fresh scrutiny from space monitoring teams across the globe. What We Know So FarAccording to tracking data from the United States Space Force and other monitoring groups, the mysterious object appeared on March 18. It was quickly catalogued and, at first, linked to Kosmos 2581. Later on, though, some signals hinted it might be tied to Kosmos 2583 instead. What's clear is that the object was released while the satellites were still active and so far, Russia hasn't said a word about it.Interestingly, before the object showed up, the satellites were seen carrying out what's known as proximity operations basically manoeuvring close to other objects in orbit, which is not something routine satellites typically do.Expert Insight and Possible ExplanationsAstrophysicist Jonathan McDowell from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics spoke to Space.com about the situation. He pointed out that the satellites had been making deliberate close-range movements, which has led many to believe this isn't just routine activity. As for the object itself, there are a few possibilities. It could be part of a satellite testing programme or a tool for formation flying. There's also a chance it's linked to some kind of military experiment. While a technical malfunction hasn't been ruled out, experts note that accidents like that usually leave behind several bits of debris and that doesn't seem to be the case here.Putting It Into ContextThe Kosmos label has been used by Russia for decades, dating back to 1962. It covers a broad range of secretive military and scientific missions. Triplets like this group aren't unusual either China and the US have also used similar formations, often for surveillance or intelligence-gathering purposes.Still, the exact purpose of Kosmos 2581, 2582, 2583 and now this newly released object remains a mystery. Until more information is released (if it ever is), analysts will continue to watch closely from the ground. WWW.GADGETS360.COMGoogle Moves Gemini 2.5 Pro to Public Preview, Offers Higher Rate Limits in AI StudioPhoto Credit: Google Gemini 2.5 Pro debuted at rank one on the LMArena leaderboard HighlightsGoogle said Gemini 2.5 Pro will soon be rolled out to Vertex AIThe tech giant will charge higher prices after using 2,00,000 tokensGemini 2.5 Pro is also available to users via Gemini AdvancedAdvertisementGoogle moved the Gemini 2.5 Pro artificial intelligence (AI) model to public preview last week. The Mountain View-based tech giant released its latest flagship tier AI model last month as an experimental preview with limited rate limits. But now, those using the Gemini application programming interface (API) or accessing the model via the Google AI Studio will get higher rate limits. The company also announced the pricing for the higher rate limits, and claimed that it is keeping them competitive.Gemini 2.5 Pro Pricings AnnouncedIn a blog post, Google said that it witnessed an early adoption of Gemini 2.5 Pro from developers, and due to this high demand, it is now expanding the access of the large language model (LLM) to developers. The tech giant said that the foundation model is now available as a public preview in the Gemini API in Google Studio with higher rate limits. Notably, the AI model is yet to be released on Vertex AI, and the company said it will be added to the platform shortly.Coming to the pricing, Gemini 2.5 Pro is now available in two pricing tiers. The first is available with regular rate limits of 2,00,000 tokens or less. The second price tier kicks in once a developer has exhausted the regular rate limit and goes beyond that.Within the regular rate limit, Gemini 2.5 Pro will cost $1.25 (roughly Rs. 107) per million input tokens and $10 (roughly Rs. 858) per million output tokens. The input tokens include text, images, audio, and videos, and the output price is adjusted for reasoning tokens.Beyond the 2,00,000 token rate limit, developers will be charged $2.5 (roughly Rs. 214) for every one million input tokens and $15 (roughly Rs. 1,290) per million output tokens. Notably, the experimental version of the Gemini model continues to remain free with lower rate limits. The tech giant says the model has been priced competitively, and comparing its prices to competitors, the Gemini 2.5 Pro model does appear to be significantly cheaper. For instance, Anthropic's flagship model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, costs $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.Google's major rival in the AI space, OpenAI, charges even higher for its reasoning models. The o1 AI model has an input price of $15 per million input tokens and $60 (roughly Rs. 5,150) per million output tokens. However, the company does make a provision for cached input tokens and charges a discounted $7.5 (roughly Rs. 640) per million. WWW.GADGETS360.COMMicrosofts Copilot AI Upgraded With Memory, Podcasts and Agentic FeaturesMicrosoft announced several new features for its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Copilot, last week. The Redmond-based tech giant said that these features will enable the AI chatbot to deliver a more personalised experience to users. Some of the new features were previously available only on the web client, and are now being expanded to its mobile and Windows desktop apps. Among the new additions, Copilot is getting memory capability to remember certain details about the user, and an agentic feature that will allow it to complete tasks on the web.Copilot Is Getting New Personalisation-Focused AI FeaturesIn a blog post, Mustafa Suleyman, Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, announced several new features which are currently being rolled out to Copilot globally. Apart from the abovementioned, these features include the expansion of Copilot Vision, and the addition of Podcasts, Shopping, and Deep Research capabilities. One of the key features being introduced is Memory. With this, the AI chatbot can remember certain details about the user, such as their favourite food, birthdays of loved ones, as well as their hobbies. The company says Copilot uses this information to build a more personalised experience and offer tailored suggestions and reminders. Users will have the option to control the information Copilot remembers, and they can also opt out entirely.Microsoft is also working on another personalisation feature that will allow users to give Copilot a custom appearance. While details about the customisability and the method of adding were not shared, Suleyman said users would be able to see this appearance while interacting with the chatbot.Copilot is also getting an agentic function. Dubbed Actions, this feature will let Copilot complete web-based tasks independently in the background. It can perform tasks such as booking tickets for an event, reserving a restaurant table, or sending a thoughtful gift to a friend. The AI agent is said to work with most websites, and Microsoft has partnered with several brands, including Booking.com, Expedia, Kayak, OpenTable, Tripadvisor, Skyscanner, and more.Microsoft is also expanding Copilot Vision to mobile and Windows desktop apps. It is an image-understanding feature, and it can use the device's camera to look at the surroundings and answer user queries. The feature can also analyse real-time video from the camera and photos stored in the phone's gallery. On the desktop, it can also read the screen and interact with the content. Vision will first be introduced for Windows Insider starting next week.Copilot Pages will also allow users to share their notes, content, and research with the chatbot, and it will organise, format, and simplify it for easier viewing. Users can also ask queries based on the information shared and add the revised information with a single tap.Similar to Google's NotebookLM (and now Gemini), Copilot is also getting a podcast creation feature. Dubbed Pocasts, it can create a personalised audio session of content based on the user's interests. Users can continue to chat with Copilot while listening to the podcast to gain a better understanding of the topic being discussed.Microsoft is also pitching the AI chatbot as a shopping assistant. It says that Copilot can now perform research, build comparisons, and offer advice when shopping for a specific product. It can also be used to get notifications about price drops and sales. Users will also be able to purchase products directly from the Copilot app. Finally, two more features are being rolled out Deep Research and Copilot Search. The former allows users to conduct multi-step research on a complex topic and prepare a comprehensive report, while the latter is available in Bing and offers a unified experience of traditional search and generative search. Copilot Search shows detailed responses in Bing with cited sources and website suggestions for deeper understanding. WWW.GADGETS360.COMMicrosoft Releases an AI-Generated Playable Quake II Game DemoMicrosoft released an interactive real-time gameplay experience of Quake II in Copilot Labs last week. To build the artificial intelligence (AI) gameplay, the Redmond-based tech giant used its recently released Muse AI models and a new approach dubbed World and Human Action MaskGIT Model (WHAMM). The game demo is currently available as a research preview to everyone, and it comes with the world generation of the game and all the usual mechanics. Microsoft also listed several limitations in the gameplay of the AI-generated experience.Microsoft's Quake II Gameplay Was Built on Muse AIIn a blog post, Microsoft researchers detailed the AI-generated gameplay and how they were able to build it. AI-powered 2D and 3D game generation has been an active area of interest for researchers as it tests the capability of the technology to generate real-time world environments and adjust it for different mechanics used by a human user. It is said to be a good way to see if AI models can be trained to take on real-world tasks by controlling robots as physical AI.Notably, Quake II is a 1997 first-person shooter published by Microsoft-owned Activision. It is a 3D forward-scrolling level-based game with a diverse range of mechanics, including jumping, crouching, shooting, environment destruction, and camera movements. The game is available via Copilot Labs, and users can currently experience a single level for about two minutes using a controller or the keyboard.Coming to the development process, the researchers said that they used Muse AI models and the World and Human Action Model (WHAM) to use the new WHAMM approach.WHAMM OverviewPhoto Credit: MicrosoftWHAMM is the successor to WHAM-1.6B, and can generate more than 10 frames per second, enabling real-time video generation. The gameplay's resolution output has been kept at 640360 pixels. Microsoft says one of the key improvements in WHAMM's speed came from using the MaskGIT Mask Generative Image Transformer) setup instead of WHAM-1.6B, as the frame rates went from one frame per second to 10+.MaskGIT setup allowed the researchers to generate all of the tokens for an image in a limited number of forward passes. With this, the AI model can produce predictions of each of the possible moves of a single masked image in real time, allowing for a smoother experience. While the core gameplay is quite similar to the original game, Microsoft also listed several limitations with the current demo. Since the game environment is generated using AI, it is merely an approximation of the real world and not an identical replication. Enemy interaction sometimes leads to fuzzy image generations, and the combat can be incorrect.WHAMM currently has a context window of 0.9 seconds (9 frames at 10fps). As a result, the model forgets about objects that go out of view for longer than this. Microsoft says this can give rise to scenarios where a user turns around and finds an entirely new area or looks a the sky and back down to find themselves be moved to a different part of the map. Further, the game also has a significant latency due to it being made available to everyone.Affiliate links may be automatically generated - see our ethics statement for details.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 67 Views
