Tablet PCs and pen displays have long been considered a luxury among digital artists and designers, but not everyone considers them to be the best tool. Although its not how we would normally draw on paper, some find the screen-less drawing tablets to not only be more affordable but also more usable and more efficient, at least after a certain learning curve. It allows users to keep their favorite laptop or stick to their carefully calibrated monitors while encouraging a posture that is also more ergonomic than hunching over a display. That said, the design of these drawing devices hasnt changed much over the course of the years, especially Wacoms aging Intuos Pro line. That changes now, however, with a new design thats not only slimmer and sleeker but also completely changes the way you use these black slates, for better or for worse. You could say that Wacom is giving its drawing tablet line a new twist, quite literally.Designer: WacomThe first thing youll notice in the new design is that the physical controls are no longer off to the side but are at the top. Wacom has already been using this convention on the non-Pro Intuos line, so this is a case of the more premium models playing catch up. This design allows for greater flexibility for right and left-handed users without having to go through the process of turning the tablet to one side or the other and then configuring the software to use the correct orientation. The controls themselves have also changed their design, with five buttons now lumped together in a single, space-saving circle. The touch-sensitive Touch Ring has also been replaced with a proper dial, delivering tactile feedback that makes it easier to make more precise changes. That said, having the controls above the drawing area rather than to the side might also be awkward for some who find it more natural and comfortable to have their non-drawing hand off to the side as well.Once you get over the changes to the buttons and dials, however, you will finally notice how compact and thin the new 2025 Intuos Pro tablets have become. They are physically smaller than their predecessors, but they offer the same or an even bigger active area, so youre not missing out on anything. Their slimmer design makes it even easier to bring them anywhere with you, in case you have some downtime to do some creative work on the go.Modernizing the design of the Intuos Pro line has been a long time coming. For a device aimed at artists and designers, its decades-old appearance was no longer inspiring or usable. In the meantime, Wacoms rivals have grown and improved, offering products that at the very least cannibalize the giants bottom line. This redesign will definitely help cement Wacoms status as the brand to beat not just among industry veterans but also up-and-coming creatives. The post Wacom Intuos Pro (2025) drawing tablets finally get a long-overdue redesign first appeared on Yanko Design.
